Against the Alpha’s Claim – Chapter 244

Your services

She doubted that either Gillian or Adrian would have made those calls.

“What is your purpose here, Bella?” I assume you intend to resign. I am aware that the individual and his firm operate a law practice; I have conducted my own investigation into him.” He entirely disregarded her comment.

“I am aware you did.” She said, “And indeed, that is the reason for my presence.”

“Do not concern yourself.” He up, retrieved the piece of paper, circled his desk, and presented it to her, “Despite your competence as a lawyer and your commendable record.”

We at Billy and Co no longer require your services.

Bella exhaled deeply when perusing the letter, which conveyed the termination of her existing arrangement. Which she was subject to, and scheduled for renewal in slightly over a month. It indicated that she was negligent in her responsibilities, having failed to attend court or her office for the entirety of the missed work period.

The corporation and its whole board recognised her irresponsibility and no longer deemed her compatible with the company’s key values. It was effective immediately.

After reading it, she gazed up at him; he appeared distinctly unhappy, despite her having seeing him sign it there in front of her. He desired her to witness him signing it and was aware of this.

The termination letter included a breach of contract fee, which she was required to pay despite the fact that they were terminating the contract. The justification for this payment was referenced as ‘as per above.’

Gazed at him disapprovingly now,

“What were your expectations regarding the outcome? Bella?”

Shed did not anticipate that, “I will have a cheque issued to Ben.” She asserted that there was nothing further she could articulate.

“You will also receive a comprehensive invoice for my time and for all the efforts expended by this company on your behalf,” he remarked as his office door opened.

Both individuals turned to observe who would enter his office without prior notice, as she was aware that few would do so. She almost sighed as she observed Luke enter and traverse the room. He donned a complete three-piece business suit and tie in dark charcoal grey, attired for the office or any engagement between Ben and himself, she contemplated.

He gazed at her, then at Ben, and declared, “I will pay it now; please document it.” He seized the letter from her hand, examined it briefly, and then directed his attention towards Ben. He seems discontented as well.

She observed the two encounter each other for the first time and rose to interpose herself between them, uncertain of the next outcome.

“Fine,” Ben declared, leaning across his desk to activate his intercom. “Stacey, prepare Bella’s bill immediately and inform accounting that it will be settled today.” Promptly, do not cause them to await it.

Turned and gazed back at Luke. I trust that your card has no limit, as she employed numerous solicitors.’

“It will be a trivial expense for me, and Bella is worth every cent I possess.” She will now be liberated from your influence. Effective now, I will no longer be taking your calls.

“Best of luck, Bella. I hope the man proves to be loyal this time, in contrast to your previous relationship.” She observed Ben as he turned and seated himself behind his desk. It was an unprovoked and inappropriate strike.

“I apologise, Ben.”

“So am I,” he declared bluntly. “The door is open; retrieve your personal belongings, settle your bill, and leave, Bella.”

She exhaled audibly and began to exit his office, pausing when she noticed Luke had not followed her. “Luke?””

Observed him leaning on Ben’s desk and placing his phone in front of Ben. Family emergencies constitute valid justifications for unexpected absences from work. Bella’s mother was assaulted by a wolf. These are her wounds. Examine it closely; observe for yourself. If you favour Mr. Billy, I may convene another press conference to demonstrate to all your clients and shareholders that you terminated Bella for dereliction of duty, when in fact, she was addressing a family emergency. Your company is violating her contract, not her, which you evidently understood.

“She arrived here to resign,” Ben asserted.

“She attempted to fulfil her obligations, but you precluded her opportunity, terminated her employment, and breached the contract unilaterally.” I possess the documented evidence in my possession that elucidates the reasons for its profound incorrectness. Let us engage in combat, Ben, and determine the victor. I could match Bella against you; she has a passion for contract law. Does that seem agreeable to you? Do you believe you will prevail?”

She observed Ben scrutinising the photographs, and he appeared to be frowning.

“I can provide the medical documentation to substantiate the injuries her mother incurred, their severity, and her proximity to death…” Ben directed his gaze at Luke. “There is no need to be so severe towards someone experiencing a familial crisis.”

Bella, once the cherished lover of future Alpha Luke of the Red Moon Pack, finds her world shattered when she is banished from her pack. Her crime? Striking Luke’s newly discovered fated mate with claws unsheathed—a reflex her wolf, Tyler, cryptically defends with the words, “To protect the pup.” Stripped of her place in the pack and warned never to return, Bella complies, narrowly avoiding the rogue label since Luke has not yet ascended to full Alpha status. Heartbroken and resolute, she retreats to the human world, immersing herself in university life to complete her law degree. Bella carves out a new existence as a successful divorce attorney, far from the pack that cast her aside, the future Luna who despises her, and the secret she guards fiercely—her children, the legacy of a love she can never reclaim. Six years pass in self-imposed exile, but the past refuses to stay buried. When an official letter from the Red Moon Pack demands her return, Bella defiantly burns it, vowing never to step foot in Luke’s territory again. But Luke, now the reigning Alpha, is relentless. He will bring her back, no matter the cost. Bound by the constraints of human law and society, Luke cannot simply take her by force—her prominence in the human world complicates any attempt to make her disappear. Yet, he is determined to claim what he believes is his by right. As their paths cross again, Bella is thrust into a storm of conflicting emotions. Her wolf yearns for Luke, urging her to reclaim the bond they share, but Bella’s heart is torn. She despises the man who cast her out yet still feels the undeniable pull of their connection. To her, Luke’s motives are clear: he wants his heirs by his side, not her. She believes his wolf drives him to claim her, while the man himself sees her merely as the mother of his children, a convenient solution to his legacy. But is that the truth? Or does Luke harbor a deeper love for her that he has yet to admit—even to himself? In the battle between pride and fate, will Bella surrender to the mate bond or stand firm in her resolve to remain free? Only time will reveal whether their fractured past can heal, or if the scars will prove too deep to overcome.
