Against the Alpha’s Claim – Chapter 240

Coffee

The drive from the airstrip to the hotel took around one hour. That was beneficial for Los Angeles. Due to traffic, she contacted Nora as they entered the hotel and proceeded to the lift.

“Greetings Bella, how are you and the children faring?””

“All is well; the children miss you greatly.” I am currently in Los Angeles and decided to visit.

“This may not be the most opportune moment.” She exhaled deeply over the phone. The insurance company is resolute in their refusal to pay, and my mother is utterly bewildered.

I regret to hear that; nevertheless, this may be an opportune moment to convene and deliberate on a vacation for her and your sister’, she remarked as they exited the lift and proceeded to her room.

“I am uncertain, Bella; mother is presently expressing her frustrations in fluent Spanish.”

“Indeed, Nora.” “I am outside your door.” Bella extended her hand and activated the doorbell.

“What?”It required merely a few seconds before she opened the door. “Greetings.”

Bella ended the call. “Hi, I brought a friendly face with me,” she stated immediately, stepping aside to reveal Macky. She observed Nora’s brown eyes shift towards him, and noted her intake of breath. “Macky, this is Nora…Nora, Macky,” she formally introduced them.

“Greetings, Nora.” Macky smiled directly at her, “It is a pleasure to finally be present in person.”

He was attired in light grey trousers and a white dress shirt, presenting a polished appearance for his initial in-person meeting with Nora.

“Hello.” Bella perceived a slight breathlessness in her voice.

Bella grinned while observing Nora’s reaction to him. She stood at five feet four inches, a petite woman with wavy brown hair and chocolate brown eyes, gazing up at a man who was six feet two inches tall. She had not encountered him in person, and he was not diminutive in stature. Muscular to the maximum extent, as is typical for most Gammas. She observed Nora inhale deeply, then take a small step forward and extend her hand to him, stating, “Nice to meet you finally.”

Observed as Macky grasped her hand, approached her directly, raised her palm to his lips, and kissed the back of it, noting Nora’s deep crimson and the widening of her eyes.

Observed him extend his hand to secure a stray strand of Nora’s hair behind her ear while she smiled down at him.

He stood there, observing her intently, and Bella was very aware of it; both he and his wolf scrutinised her, presumably committing her scent and appearance to memory. She noticed him inhale deeply, his smile somewhat softening as he seemed more at ease in her presence. Ultimately, he arrived at his desired destination.

She waited, unhurried, as she required this meeting to be successful. Although Nora was amenable to a month-long commitment, she had not definitively accepted a permanent position. Remained concerned about the distance from her family. She and Macky intended to persuade her mother to grant her approval.

“Nora, who is at the door?”It was her mother, Elena, who was now at the door. “Ah, it is a friend of your superior.”

“Greetings, Mrs. Martinez,” Bella announced, identifying herself.

“Miss Freeman, it has been some time.”

“It has,” she affirmed, been about a year since she had last seen the woman, not since she had driven Nora home. On that occasion, her vehicle had malfunctioned, and Elena had requested that she and the children enter for a cup of coffee and a slice of cake as a gesture of gratitude. “May Macky and I request permission to enter, as we would like a moment of your time.”

She saw as Nora withdrew her hand from Macky’s and moved back, noting his little scowl before he quickly composed himself and greeted Nora’s mother.

“Mrs. Martinez, it is a pleasure to finally meet you in person.”

Directed a smile towards her.

Observed Elena scrutinise him momentarily before smiling at him. “You are quite a sizable individual, are you not?””

“I am,” he said with a gentle grin. “Or is it merely due to your diminutive and delicate stature?”She was a diminutive woman, standing at about five feet tall and possessing a delicate frame.

Observed Elena chuckling to herself, “Still as amusing as ever, I see.”

“I endeavour to be,” he affirmed. “May we enter for a brief period?”

Elena acquiesced. “I shall prepare coffee.”

They entered the hotel suite, and Bella surveyed her surroundings. It was a pleasant suite; she recognised that Macky was financing it. She suspected that the pack ought to be responsible for the expense, which seemed plausible, especially considering that Luke had been the one preventing Macky from visiting for several weeks.

She positioned herself in a solitary chair, aware that this would place Macky on the lounge beside Nora. She observed the girl flush slightly as she settled down, heard him softly murmur, “I missed talking to you last night.” Coffee was prepared and served to them; Bella smiled and expressed her gratitude to Elena, nearly moaning in delight as she savoured the coffee, which was the finest she had ever tasted.

Bella, once the cherished lover of future Alpha Luke of the Red Moon Pack, finds her world shattered when she is banished from her pack. Her crime? Striking Luke’s newly discovered fated mate with claws unsheathed—a reflex her wolf, Tyler, cryptically defends with the words, “To protect the pup.” Stripped of her place in the pack and warned never to return, Bella complies, narrowly avoiding the rogue label since Luke has not yet ascended to full Alpha status. Heartbroken and resolute, she retreats to the human world, immersing herself in university life to complete her law degree. Bella carves out a new existence as a successful divorce attorney, far from the pack that cast her aside, the future Luna who despises her, and the secret she guards fiercely—her children, the legacy of a love she can never reclaim. Six years pass in self-imposed exile, but the past refuses to stay buried. When an official letter from the Red Moon Pack demands her return, Bella defiantly burns it, vowing never to step foot in Luke’s territory again. But Luke, now the reigning Alpha, is relentless. He will bring her back, no matter the cost. Bound by the constraints of human law and society, Luke cannot simply take her by force—her prominence in the human world complicates any attempt to make her disappear. Yet, he is determined to claim what he believes is his by right. As their paths cross again, Bella is thrust into a storm of conflicting emotions. Her wolf yearns for Luke, urging her to reclaim the bond they share, but Bella’s heart is torn. She despises the man who cast her out yet still feels the undeniable pull of their connection. To her, Luke’s motives are clear: he wants his heirs by his side, not her. She believes his wolf drives him to claim her, while the man himself sees her merely as the mother of his children, a convenient solution to his legacy. But is that the truth? Or does Luke harbor a deeper love for her that he has yet to admit—even to himself? In the battle between pride and fate, will Bella surrender to the mate bond or stand firm in her resolve to remain free? Only time will reveal whether their fractured past can heal, or if the scars will prove too deep to overcome.
