Against the Alpha’s Claim – Chapter 2

A Letter

Her hands trembled as she held the letter, her gaze fixed on the seal that marked it. Six long years had passed since she fled the Red Moon Pack, and now, out of nowhere, here it was—a letter from him.

The pack’s insignia glared back at her, a painful reminder of a life she had worked so hard to leave behind. She slowly raised her eyes from the envelope to the living room, where her three children were playing. Her son laughed as he wrestled playfully with his twin sisters, their joy filling the air.

“This isn’t real,” she whispered to herself. “It can’t be happening.”

For six years, Bella had managed to keep her life separate from the world she had left. She had never returned to the packlands, just as he had commanded. And yet, she had never been severed from the pack. By some unspoken mercy, Alpha Tomas had never officially cut her ties, leaving her connected in some small, lingering way to the Red Moon Pack.

Her gaze lingered on her children. Her son, strong and determined, was the spitting image of his father: blonde hair, sun-kissed skin, and a presence that demanded attention. The only trace of her in him was his piercing green eyes—her eyes. Everything else was a reminder of a man who had cast her aside.

Her twin daughters, Minka and Arana, shared her green eyes but little else. Their golden waves fell softly down their backs, and their gentle natures were a stark contrast to their brother’s fierce protectiveness. At just three minutes older, Nate took his role as their protector seriously, his strength and size making him seem more like an older brother than a twin.

Bella tore her gaze away and stepped into the kitchen, the letter still clenched in her hand. Tyler, her wolf, was silent, her unease palpable in the quiet corners of Bella’s mind. Bella could feel Tyler’s concern pressing against her own.

Taking a deep breath, she opened the letter and read its contents:

Bella Freeman,
You are hereby officially recalled to the Red Moon Pack.
You are required to respond to this letter within seven days and confirm the date of your return.
Alpha Luke – Red Moon Pack

Her heart sank. How had he found her? For years, she had stayed hidden, building a new life far from Wolfen society. She refused to go back. Not now. Not ever.

Without hesitation, she walked to the stove, struck a match, and held it to the corner of the letter. The flames licked at the paper, devouring the words she had no intention of obeying. The ash scattered into the air as she dropped the remains into the sink.

Tyler’s quiet unease remained, but Bella’s determination hardened. “We’re not going back,” she muttered.

She grabbed her phone and began searching for a new place to live. If Luke could find her once, he could find her again. They had to move—fast.

Four days later, she signed the lease for a new apartment on the opposite side of the city. It wasn’t near her office, which meant a longer commute, but it was safer. A larger space for her children to play, with a doorman and night security to ensure no one could approach unnoticed.

Leaving her beloved beachfront apartment was difficult, but she had no choice. Safety came first. She packed up her life and moved her family swiftly, leaving behind the echoes of laughter and the salty ocean breeze for the sterner embrace of the city.

As she stood in the doorway of their new home, watching her children explore the unfamiliar space, Bella’s resolve solidified. She had built this life from nothing, and she would protect it—no matter what it took.

Bella enrolled her children in a new school as part of their fresh start. She had never truly hidden her identity, only ensured she stayed as far away from her past as possible. It wasn’t just her who suffered—Tyler had been forced to suppress her true nature, confined to a life devoid of the freedom she craved. The lack of open spaces to run and the constant vigilance had been a daily punishment, a relentless reminder of the price they paid for one fateful decision.

One mistake. A single act to protect her unborn pups, and it had cost them everything. But that pain had forged them into something unyielding. Now, neither Bella nor Tyler allowed emotions to guide their choices. Every decision was filtered through logic and practicality. Love, trust, and vulnerability had no place in their lives anymore. And wolves? They had no place in this world either—not in the life she had built.

Her sanctuary was Billy & Co, the law firm where she had worked since passing the bar. It wasn’t just a workplace; it was her safe haven. There, she had Nina and Matt, her closest and most loyal human friends. Nina had been there when her pups were born—an unexpected and chaotic event during a lunch meeting with Matt. By sheer luck, Matt’s wife, a doctor, had been visiting that day. Her triplets had come into the world right there in Matt’s university office, amid panic and tears.

She remembered breaking down after their birth, overwhelmed by the enormity of raising three babies alone. She had confided in Nina and Matt, admitting she had no family and that their father didn’t care—a truth that stung even as she spoke it. Moved by her plight, the two had stepped in, becoming her makeshift family. Though she never called them mum or dad, they had filled those roles in quiet, profound ways.

No one at Billy & Co knew what she truly was. No one knew who her children’s father was. Those were secrets she kept tightly locked away. Human society was blissfully unaware of Wolfen law, and Bella had no intention of breaching that sacred boundary. Revealing the existence of wolfen society was forbidden, and she would carry her secrets to the grave.

But her past wasn’t done with her.

Ten days after moving into their new apartment, another letter arrived. The familiar seal made her stomach churn. Moving hadn’t worked. A shiver ran through her as she stared at it, her instincts screaming danger. Without opening the envelope, she wrote Return to Sender: Not at this address and sent it back, silently pleading with the goddess that this would end it.

Two weeks later, another letter arrived. The same seal, the same demand. Once again, she scrawled the same message, refusing to open it. Return to Sender: Not at this address. In the human world, this would have been enough to stop the sender, enough to convince them that the person they sought was no longer reachable.

But Bella knew better. She prayed fervently to the goddess that this time, it would truly be the end of it. She couldn’t go back. She wouldn’t go back. His command had been clear, etched into her memory as sharply as the day he banished her.

She couldn’t allow herself to be dragged into a world that had abandoned her. No matter how persistent the letters became, she would hold her ground—for herself, for her children, and for the life she had fought so hard to build.

Bella, once the cherished lover of future Alpha Luke of the Red Moon Pack, finds her world shattered when she is banished from her pack. Her crime? Striking Luke’s newly discovered fated mate with claws unsheathed—a reflex her wolf, Tyler, cryptically defends with the words, “To protect the pup.” Stripped of her place in the pack and warned never to return, Bella complies, narrowly avoiding the rogue label since Luke has not yet ascended to full Alpha status. Heartbroken and resolute, she retreats to the human world, immersing herself in university life to complete her law degree. Bella carves out a new existence as a successful divorce attorney, far from the pack that cast her aside, the future Luna who despises her, and the secret she guards fiercely—her children, the legacy of a love she can never reclaim. Six years pass in self-imposed exile, but the past refuses to stay buried. When an official letter from the Red Moon Pack demands her return, Bella defiantly burns it, vowing never to step foot in Luke’s territory again. But Luke, now the reigning Alpha, is relentless. He will bring her back, no matter the cost. Bound by the constraints of human law and society, Luke cannot simply take her by force—her prominence in the human world complicates any attempt to make her disappear. Yet, he is determined to claim what he believes is his by right. As their paths cross again, Bella is thrust into a storm of conflicting emotions. Her wolf yearns for Luke, urging her to reclaim the bond they share, but Bella’s heart is torn. She despises the man who cast her out yet still feels the undeniable pull of their connection. To her, Luke’s motives are clear: he wants his heirs by his side, not her. She believes his wolf drives him to claim her, while the man himself sees her merely as the mother of his children, a convenient solution to his legacy. But is that the truth? Or does Luke harbor a deeper love for her that he has yet to admit—even to himself? In the battle between pride and fate, will Bella surrender to the mate bond or stand firm in her resolve to remain free? Only time will reveal whether their fractured past can heal, or if the scars will prove too deep to overcome.
