Against the Alpha’s Claim – Chapter 186

New Partner

They were all observing her parents at that moment. Luke had ceased eating, attempting to act as her Mate rather than their Alpha, she recognised. However, it appeared that his status as either her Mate or the pack Alpha would not influence her father. He would only arrive when he felt prepared. She observed them return to the chamber. Her father seems somewhat discontented.

“At what hour, Alpha?” Vera enquired of him,

“It would be preferable after breakfast… Mother and Father will also be present to join us. “Please, Vera and Jodi, refer to me as Luke; we are all family now.”

Observed her mother nodding and smiling at him, “We shall see you in 30 minutes then.”

He nodded, and her parents smiled at her and then at the children. “Is there a large family dinner tonight, Bella?”Her mother enquired.

“Understood.” She acknowledged.

“You are welcome to utilise the private dining room, Vera; it accommodates up to twelve guests.”

“Thank you, I shall proceed accordingly.” She smiled at him, and then they departed, observing her father’s hand resting on the small of her mother’s back as they walked away.

She pivoted and gazed at Luke. “Will I be attending this meeting?””

I would rather not. “It may become contentious; your family does not precisely coexist harmoniously with me,” he remarked, after observing the youngsters and selecting his words with caution, she surmised.

“That is an understatement,” Margaret said, then promptly closed her mouth before apologising to Luke, addressing him by his title rather than his name.

He sighed again, stating, “It’s fine, Margaret; it is the truth.” However, he moved his plate away, indicating he had finished eating. “Bella, I need to prepare for this meeting; do you mind?””

She shook her head in negation, stating, “I must locate Dani and present her with the prenup, as she is absent for breakfast.”

Observed him rise, followed by the entirety of his unit doing the same. If he abstained from eating, it appeared that they did as well. Somewhat unjust, she contemplated. However, upon observing them, none appeared very content this morning.

She sensed his fingers traverse her hair and gazed upward, startled to find him directly before her. ‘Dani will not be alone; I doubt you wish to intrude onto her chamber,’ he said telepathically.

What? Her eyes expanded in astonishment.

“I suspect Robyn spent the night with her,” he murmured as his lips gently met hers. “I thought you might appreciate the forewarning!”

“Did he designate her?”

“Negative.”

“I shall kill him if he did.” She said, the full moon approaching within a week.

“Do not hesitate to convey that to him.” He grinned at her.

“I will, don’t you worry,” he said while smiling at her.

“I appreciate your spirited nature; it is somewhat alluring.” He winked at her before departing.

Bella recognised that she genuinely required Nora’s assistance to care for the triplets, as she was accustomed to their being at school during her work hours. Although she observed that they all wore school uniforms, she recognised that the pack school would operate differently from the human institution.

Wolves have far longer time off than humans, with two weeks allocated for each season and six weeks for summer. “Margaret, when does school conclude for winter this year?”It was understood that it varied significantly each year, contingent upon several factors. Primarily the weather, however.

“I believe it is the twentieth, and then they return on the fifth.” I may accompany you to the school to show the youngsters, if you choose. It has undergone several upgrades during your absence.

“That would be pleasant.” I turned to observe the triplets, noting their wrinkled noses; they were discontented about returning to school.

“You must attend at some point,” she informed them, but she would not compel their attendance until the new year, given that it was now the sixteenth. There was little need to attend for the last three days unless they choose to do so, but it did not appear that way to her.

I heard Margaret giggle and turned to face her.

“They are adorable, you know.”

I eagerly anticipate the arrival of a puppy.

“You are still youthful.”

“I have a preference for infants.” I frequently work in the creche alongside your mother.

I share her sentiment; I really adore infants.

“I anticipate you will have one shortly.”

“Oh, I have my associate addressing that.” She smiled. “I eagerly anticipate entering…”

Bella cleared her throat and gestured dismissively at the girl, “I have not elucidated that yet.”

“You may wish to consider this, as you have been Mated for three days.”

“I understand, however…”

“Challenging.” Darla or my mother ought to assist with it. She conducts the mating courses, where all aspects of wolf mating are examined.

“I had forgotten that; it has been a considerable time since that class.” Indeed, most wolves acquired that knowledge at 16, while many comprehended it prior to that age.

“She will be at the school.” Class begins in approximately thirty minutes. By walking, we will arrive after everyone has settled into class.

“I appreciate your assistance, Margaret.”

“No problem, it appears that you and I are fated to spend considerable time together.” She grinned, and it was quite accurate. Nora’s arrival piqued her curiosity. Lanky is not mated.

“No longer.” Lost his companion to a renegade assault around four years prior.

Profoundly sorrowful. I doubt he is seeking another one as well. He immerses himself in studies or the library, but he does participate in the balls, perhaps due to his affiliation with the Alpha Unit. Not due to his quest for a new partner.

“That is quite unfortunate; I was unaware of that.”

“He seldom mentions Claudia; she was a warrior who, rather than remaining in the pack-house as instructed, ventured out to assist, as all warriors do.” “And did not succeed,” I heard her exhale. “She was formidable, originated from a different pack, and harboured disdain….” sighed and left unfinished

Her punishment.

“Displeased?”

Mia.

“What is the reason for not proceeding?” I possess no knowledge regarding her.

“You do not genuinely desire to; few individuals here appreciated her.” Particularly towards the conclusion.” She shook her head. “It became evident that she was truly malevolent.

Striking Luke’s newly discovered fated mate with claws unsheathed—a reflex her wolf, Tyler, cryptically defends with the words, “To protect the pup.” Stripped of her place in the pack and warned never to return, Bella complies, narrowly avoiding the rogue label since Luke has not yet ascended to full Alpha status. Heartbroken and resolute, she retreats to the human world, immersing herself in university life to complete her law degree. Bella carves out a new existence as a successful divorce attorney, far from the pack that cast her aside, the future Luna who despises her, and the secret she guards fiercely—her children, the legacy of a love she can never reclaim. Six years pass in self-imposed exile, but the past refuses to stay buried. When an official letter from the Red Moon Pack demands her return, Bella defiantly burns it, vowing never to step foot in Luke’s territory again. But Luke, now the reigning Alpha, is relentless. He will bring her back, no matter the cost. Bound by the constraints of human law and society, Luke cannot simply take her by force—her prominence in the human world complicates any attempt to make her disappear. Yet, he is determined to claim what he believes is his by right. As their paths cross again, Bella is thrust into a storm of conflicting emotions. Her wolf yearns for Luke, urging her to reclaim the bond they share, but Bella’s heart is torn. She despises the man who cast her out yet still feels the undeniable pull of their connection. To her, Luke’s motives are clear: he wants his heirs by his side, not her. She believes his wolf drives him to claim her, while the man himself sees her merely as the mother of his children, a convenient solution to his legacy. But is that the truth? Or does Luke harbor a deeper love for her that he has yet to admit—even to himself? In the battle between pride and fate, will Bella surrender to the mate bond or stand firm in her resolve to remain free? Only time will reveal whether their fractured past can heal, or if the scars will prove too deep to overcome.
