Against the Alpha’s Claim – Chapter 171

I disapprove

My Mate and her Alpha, or his unit even myself. Was all aggression, I’ve never seen anything with the exception of bloodlust that matched her aggression. She has killed the pack Beta and was on the way to killing her own Mate, my only son and child. ordered her to be put down myself. She was Lost to us harming all without any thought to who they were. It was with a saddened and sorrow-filled heart. A prayer to the Goddess Selena that she be reborn, granted a new life, one without this affliction.

She has reconciled with Selena today.

Luke directed his gaze towards Lanky. “I will not disparage Bella.”

“No, there is an alternative entry. I believed it prudent to present the most unfavourable scenario. However, I contend that this is what your parents observed, although I was not present. You may wish to have them review this and provide their insights.”

Luke concurred, having listened to his father’s narration of the situation at the restaurant last week, as did everyone else.

Benzy frowned as he read over Luke’s shoulder. “I disapprove,” he mumbled.

“Which aspect?” Lanky enquired. “That she possessed the strength to eliminate a pack.”

Beta or that she departed abruptly.

“Everything, but primarily because it is too close to home. A girl forsaken by her partner, her child slain by his new companion, and threatened with death if she is seen again. All of it.”

“This reflects Bella’s emotions,” Luke lamented. “She was exiled, escaped, and subsequently lived in constant fear for her unborn children, a fear that persisted even after their birth, worried that Mia, who despised her, would seek to harm them. There was always the looming threat of death over the children she had borne me.”

“One cannot truly hold her accountable,” Lanky said. “Mia was dreadful.”

“Indeed, she was,” Luke murmured. “I was equally culpable.” He exhaled deeply.

I exiled my lifelong friend for only protecting herself; Mia initiated the confrontation.

“Was likely the initial indication of her authentic character,” Benzy murmured.

“Tall and thin?”

He observed Lanky peruse the book to a significantly more current correspondence.

1901, Luna Gwendolyn

The New Luna is compromised – Her Luna Calm is entirely inverted and dysfunctional; when Madeline experiences fear, only the Gamma is permitted proximity to our future Luna. She exudes distress akin to a tumultuous river. I struggled to cope for two days, perceiving myself as shattered by my own son’s Mate. Ultimately, her Gamma managed to soothe her after considerable persuasion and the removal of pack members from her vicinity.

He was able to make physical contact with her, which was necessary to exert control.

My Understanding – Our pack physician, fortunately, ventured into the human realm and practices medicine in a similar manner. He exhibited considerable curiosity and proposed conducting tests that might assist, contingent upon Madeline’s consent. Her condition is dire. She has slain two members of the pack, a warrior and a border patroller. It appears to be a full bloodlust triggered solely by the sight of her former mate and his partner. She fled immediately, and when we attempted to restrain her, she retaliated violently to safeguard her unborn pup.

Madeline has permitted tests as she is uncertain about the situation, does not wish to harm anyone, and expressed to both my Mate and her own Mate that she was so consumed by her fear for her unborn child—believing her previous Mate would want to harm the pup—that she was unable to manage her fear.

Test Results – our pack doctor, Marcus stated that Madeline’s blood work came back to show she was full of adrenalin, that her flight or fight response was currently active. Days later, he took more blood when she was completely calm, showed the same result as the first. Marcus put it as Madeline is always adrenalized. His theory is that our Madeline is constautly without break, in flight or fight mode, her body does not rest from it. That she has somehow gotten used to it, can function normally most of the time. Until she is fearful and loses control, then her flight response kicks in, her body sets off another dose of adrenaline and she flees at will. But when one try’s to contain her, she switches to fight mode. Her body now produces more adrenaline, is now filled with twice as much adrenaline on top of the adrenaline she lives with constantly. Courses through her body and turns our Madeline into something akin to bloodlust, the only thing we can see stopping this is letting her flee, to not activate her fight mode and pose no threat to her in anyway.

Outcomes of the flight or fight reaction –

Two months subsequent to Madeline

After she gave birth, we retested her blood. She appeared content and composed; however, her blood indicated elevated adrenaline levels, which were unnecessary. Marcus proposed that we actively provoke her to assess her fight-or-flight response. Madeline consented with reluctance. Unfortunately, she reacted as she had previously, fleeing and, when cornered, fighting fiercely to escape. We retreated, and she fled again. Once she was calmed, she was returned to the pack by her Gamma, who maintained control. Measures have been established to safeguard the pack from our Broken Luna; she must be permitted to flee at all times to ensure the safety of all pack members. This is a risk we must accept for the well-being of the pack.

Surveillance of Madeline

1902 – Her blood stays elevated due to three pack assaults this year.

1903 – Her blood remains adrenalised following two pack assaults and one war.

1904 – Her blood exhibits diminished levels of adrenaline, with no recorded pack assaults and no threats to the Luna.

1905 – A further reduction in her blood’s adrenalin level is seen.

There have been no pack assaults; life inside the pack has been tranquil. Marcus feels that a state of normalcy and a life devoid of fear or tension is contributing to the reduction of adrenaline levels in Madeline.

When an official letter from the Red Moon Pack demands her return, Bella defiantly burns it, vowing never to step foot in Luke’s territory again. But Luke, now the reigning Alpha, is relentless. He will bring her back, no matter the cost. Bound by the constraints of human law and society, Luke cannot simply take her by force—her prominence in the human world complicates any attempt to make her disappear. Yet, he is determined to claim what he believes is his by right. As their paths cross again, Bella is thrust into a storm of conflicting emotions. Her wolf yearns for Luke, urging her to reclaim the bond they share, but Bella’s heart is torn. She despises the man who cast her out yet still feels the undeniable pull of their connection. To her, Luke’s motives are clear: he wants his heirs by his side, not her. She believes his wolf drives him to claim her, while the man himself sees her merely as the mother of his children, a convenient solution to his legacy. But is that the truth? Or does Luke harbor a deeper love for her that he has yet to admit—even to himself? In the battle between pride and fate, will Bella surrender to the mate bond or stand firm in her resolve to remain free? Only time will reveal whether their fractured past can heal, or if the scars will prove too deep to overcome.
