“What transpired between you two upstairs? She completely excluded Maddis and me, either immediately after your departure or during that discussion.”
“She asserted that Tyler made the decision on her behalf.”
“She somewhat did,” Luke said. Their wolves had mated initially without consideration for their human counterparts. While he was indifferent, Bella evidently was not.
“No, I mean, she was compelled to act; Tyler intended to assume control and mark either you or Maddis if she did not assert her claim.”
That captured his whole attention, which was not advantageous. “Did she assert that?”
“It was suggested. I also believe she anticipated that Tyler would share the same sentiment. I can only speculate that there was some form of dialogue between her wolf regarding the matter.”
“Simply excellent,” he whispered. She may perhaps reject him at any time.
“Tyler adores us,” Maddis exhaled.
“Loves you, Maddis; she bit me yesterday.” He fired at his beast.
I informed her that the council intends to observe both of you together, clarifying that they will monitor you and her individually as well as collectively.
Enquired about her perspective on the matter.
“And?” he despised it when people were unwilling to disclose information to him.
“She asserted that they would perceive what she perceives; you are solely concerned with the children.”
He was not surprised; he had heard her articulate the same sentiment. He attempted to clarify that it was not the case, yet he had introduced the children into their conflict. Prior to her understanding his significance to her, it would appear that way to her, and he had persistently urged her to assist in persuading Karis to acquiesce.
He desired to engage in activities that fostered a connection with the youngsters.
Rather than expressing his desire to spend time with her, it is now too late. He should have exercised caution in his speech and engaged with her thoughtfully, discussing her before introducing the topic of the children. He could not simply dismiss the matter, as they were his children and he genuinely wished to know them.
Macky and Lanky entered, with Lanky stating, “I have it, boss.” He grinned momentarily, adding, “However, you may not appreciate it.”
“What else is novel?” Luke said.
Lanky placed a book titled “The Luna’s Communications” on the desk before him. The title appeared peculiar, suggesting it might pertain to the art of composing or responding to correspondence with appropriate formalities. Upon opening the book to the first page, he frowned. He continued to flip through several pages, noting that they were all handwritten by various Lunas.
“It is not as you anticipated, is it? I did not expect it to provide any answers, so I deferred it until the end. I considered it somewhat trivial, a book instructing a Luna on how to correspond with other packs.” I observed him shake his head.
This was not what it appeared to be. It was a compilation of communications from prior Lunas directed towards future Lunas, containing matters they deemed significant or deserving of attention, as inferred from the initial pages he had seen.
All had a comparable format, suggesting adherence to a certain code throughout composition. The earliest date indicated that it was centuries old.
“Is mother present in this location?”
“Indeed. The final two entries belong to Darla. You may wish to peruse them at your convenience.”
“Likely.” He affirmed with a nod.
“Supervisor.”
Luke directed his gaze towards Benzy, who signalled to Macky. He appeared dazed, yet maintained a touch on Benzy’s arm. They all awaited his response.
Bella wishes to converse with me.
“About?” Luke enquired.
“I am uncertain.” He scowled. “It seemed sorrowful to me.”
Luke exhaled, “Go.” He nodded, observed the man depart, and gazed at
Benzy. “What was her condition when you departed the suite?”
“Not sorrowful. Possibly irritated, bordering on anger. She stated that we no longer knew her.”
“She is not incorrect,” Lanky mumbled. “It has been a considerable duration, and we have endured much. I would wager that the Bella we once knew and enjoyed is fundamentally different now. I heard him sigh. “She may no longer exist; she will likely be exceedingly challenging, and perhaps…”
“Do not articulate it, Lanky.” Luke was disinterested; he anticipated that the guy would deem it unattainable for him. He saw him only nod before reaching over to open the book to a page marked with a red string, the book’s own location marker.
1705, Luna Aretha
The Future Luna is Lost – my son has encountered his mate, yet she exhibits profound fearfulness. She occasionally flees, even from her own mate. She has required pursuit and persuasion to reintegrate into the pack. I have recently uncovered her history; her past is troubling, as she had been living as a rogue until my son discovered her.
She has no recollection of the years for an extended period.
My understanding is that she escaped from her pack after being assaulted by her Alpha’s Mate, who threatened her with death if she were ever seen again. She had been selected by the Alpha as his chosen Mate and was pregnant with his child when he encountered his Gifted Mate. He subsequently abandoned her for the Gifted, who then turned against her the first time he left the pack, resulting in an attack by the new Luna. The pup did not survive. She fled for her life before the Alpha’s return and has since been relentlessly pursued by the Luna’s men, enduring capture and fighting them off multiple times in her struggle for survival.

Brought me to my knees, brought many to their knees. It appears and my Gamma agrees that she is lost to her flight response. That there appears to be an unnatural fear always within the girl. We tried to contain her today instead, stop her from fleeing, before she got out of the pack. This resulted in a worsening of her condition. It brought anyone within fifty yards of her to full distress or panic. And then her flight response to being fully surround, was switched to her fight response and she attacked everyone without reason or cause, didn’t seem to care of rank, or even that it was her own Mate.
