Against the Alpha’s Claim – Chapter 169

I do not either

I remember your coffee preferences.

“I comprehend that.”

Nora prefers a double shot in a cappuccino rather than a latte.

Observed him really smiling, enjoying the conversation about his friend. What else does my Nora enjoy?”

“Hmm, you seek an opportunity, do you?” She playfully mocked him with a subtle laugh.

“Any assistance I can receive.” He acknowledged.

“She enjoys Mexican cuisine and has a preference for spicy dishes.”

“Shall our initial date be at a Mexican restaurant?”

“Indeed, she will also consume a margarita.”

“You are being exceedingly helpful, Bella.”

She only grinned, “Why would I not be?” She is your companion. I desire your happiness. I fully support your decision to see her, engage in a romantic relationship, and subsequently return with her. However, facilitating your exposure? What is the reason for your prohibition from attending? “Elucidate that for me.”

“I am required here,” he asserted.

“For what purpose?”

“This is for you, Bella.”

“I do not require your assistance at this moment, Macky.”

“Truly, you are.”

He observed him tilt his head and recognised that he was in Gamma mode.

Gazed directly at her for around twenty seconds. “I am profoundly annoyed, and that is what I intend to express.”

“Frankly, Macky, I am frequently exasperated.” She groaned. “Even in the human realm, I experienced annoyance.” There is no distinction; you may proceed as far as I am concerned. Your presence will not rectify any misconceptions that Luke holds. Your Gamma Charm does not function in that manner.

“I understand.” He said. “I am present should you become exceedingly distressed.”

That clarified her understanding; she had been emotionally shattered during her previous distress, and it was probable that he had communicated her condition to Luke. “Macky, simply depart.” She shrugged.

“I am certain your father is present here, correct?”

Observed him genuinely laughing and found it amusing. “That is precisely what I articulated.”

She grinned, stating, “Well, since you and I are in agreement.”

“Affirmative?”

She spoke telepathically, ‘Let us remove him from pack territory, so I may instruct you to retrieve Nora.’ I shall issue it as a directive, so obligating you to comply.

“Ah, there is the Bella I remember.”

“Mm, she occasionally remains here, and well…” she shrugged, “defying him is presently my forte.”

“Indeed it is,” he grinned, “although he will not be departing with the council’s arrival.”

“He did not specify when they are due.”

“Tomorrow, Alpha Philip’s pack is merely a two-hour drive distant.”

Is Alpha Philip arriving?‘

“Indeed, including your grandmother.”

“It is not surprising that he thinks I contacted them.”

He does not believe that Bella is only attempting to ascertain how they were aware of your presence; only the allied packs prepared for your extraction in the event of a crisis are cognisant of your whereabouts.

“It was not me, Macky,” she murmured. “It appeared to me that he believed it was me and interrogated me extensively about it.” I recognise an interrogation when I saw one; I conduct them frequently myself.

“Appearances may be misleading, Bella.” As a lawyer, you should be aware that nearly any statement can be manipulated or misinterpreted, particularly if an individual is defensive. Or furious and seeking justification to distort it.

She was aware and comprehended his implications, understanding that she had misinterpreted his enquiries just because she sought justification.

Luke was weary of hearing Bella utter, ‘do what you want,’ once more. He attempted to articulate his feelings to her, apologised several times, and expressed his desire for her happiness inside the pack. With brain. He realised it had not penetrated; he needed to distance himself from her, as he felt his fury surging within him.

He did not wish to shout at her, causing her distress or fear, nor did he want to further irritate her over his enquiries concerning the council.

She had also not responded to his previous inquiry on her preferred announcement to the pack, seemingly dismissing it and stating that it was his responsibility.

He abruptly entered his office below, exceedingly furious with her, and moments later, he heard Maddis growl at him while he sat in his chair, irritated by his circumstances. Tyler had once again excluded them, and Maddis was displeased.

“I made an effort, Maddis; you are aware of that,” he murmured.

I find it unappealing.

“I do not either.”

“Repair it,” Maddis growled at him.

“Explain how,” he retorted to his beast. “I evidently lack the knowledge, and to be frank, Maddis, I am uncertain whether she desires me to attempt a resolution.” He had indeed refrained from doing so. He had ascended to her, divulging everything, acknowledging his faults, confessing that he had caused her pain once more, and expressing remorse. Ultimately, she had erected a barrier around herself, becoming cold and devoid of emotion, as if she were disinterested in his words altogether.

He was now perplexed and had the council arriving tomorrow to discuss matters with her. He anticipated that this would not proceed favourably, as he was aware that a resolution was unlikely to be achieved by then.

Informed his head omega to prepare two suites for their visitors arriving tomorrow.

Observed Benzy enter the office in a manner reminiscent of his own previous entrance; it appears his meeting with Bella was similarly unfavourable. At least he was not the sole target of her ire, as she directed her displeasure onto his Beta as well.

“She is exasperating to converse with,” he murmured. “At one point, I nearly wanted to strangle her.” I observed his hands rise as if to demonstrate this, and I cocked an eyebrow at him.

“I empathise with your sentiments, Benzy. It appears as though she possesses a mechanism that she can activate at will, resulting in an abrupt emotional barrier that renders her unyielding and frigid.”

“It is a defensive mechanism,” Benzy exhaled, lowering his hands.

“I recognise that she implements it when she has finished speaking or wishes to avoid a topic, yet is being prompted to discuss it.” At least, that was his perception.

Bella, once the cherished lover of future Alpha Luke of the Red Moon Pack, finds her world shattered when she is banished from her pack. Her crime? Striking Luke’s newly discovered fated mate with claws unsheathed—a reflex her wolf, Tyler, cryptically defends with the words, “To protect the pup.” Stripped of her place in the pack and warned never to return, Bella complies, narrowly avoiding the rogue label since Luke has not yet ascended to full Alpha status. Heartbroken and resolute, she retreats to the human world, immersing herself in university life to complete her law degree. Bella carves out a new existence as a successful divorce attorney, far from the pack that cast her aside, the future Luna who despises her, and the secret she guards fiercely—her children, the legacy of a love she can never reclaim. Six years pass in self-imposed exile, but the past refuses to stay buried. When an official letter from the Red Moon Pack demands her return, Bella defiantly burns it, vowing never to step foot in Luke’s territory again. But Luke, now the reigning Alpha, is relentless. He will bring her back, no matter the cost. Bound by the constraints of human law and society, Luke cannot simply take her by force—her prominence in the human world complicates any attempt to make her disappear. Yet, he is determined to claim what he believes is his by right. As their paths cross again, Bella is thrust into a storm of conflicting emotions. Her wolf yearns for Luke, urging her to reclaim the bond they share, but Bella’s heart is torn. She despises the man who cast her out yet still feels the undeniable pull of their connection. To her, Luke’s motives are clear: he wants his heirs by his side, not her. She believes his wolf drives him to claim her, while the man himself sees her merely as the mother of his children, a convenient solution to his legacy. But is that the truth? Or does Luke harbor a deeper love for her that he has yet to admit—even to himself? In the battle between pride and fate, will Bella surrender to the mate bond or stand firm in her resolve to remain free? Only time will reveal whether their fractured past can heal, or if the scars will prove too deep to overcome.
