Against the Alpha’s Claim – Chapter 164

Affirmative Alpha

He scowled at the guy, stating, “I shall wait.” The man had not spoken to her as Luna, but by her first name, and then proposed to give it personally. He recognised that the pack was uncertain about their relationship. It was no surprise that she was angry with him.

Luke stood and waited; he did not monitor his siblings’ expenditure of pack money and was unaware of how much Robyn had spent a month, much less the last year or three.

Telepathically connected to his brother, he said, ‘Robyn, which automobiles have you acquired in the previous three years?’

“None, I possess a car, acquired it for my 18th birthday. Why do you ask?” was the response.

Bella is preparing your prenuptial agreement; all cars must be documented.

“Trust the Mercedes; I did not purchase it. It was a present.”

“Bicycles?”

“No.”

“Nothing whatsoever?” Luke enquired with a frown.

“I am neither reckless nor wasteful with pack funds, Luke. That would be

Abbey’s territory, but I believed you would have restrained that behaviour by now, to be candid. Who requires a new automobile annually or new furnishings for her suite every six months? Her wardrobe is probably more extensive than yours as well.

“Thank you, Robyn.” He severed the connection.

He had not monitored either of them; they were Alphas, and if anything were to happen to him, the pack would devolve to one of them. It would have been Abbey, until two days ago when he de-ranked her.

“Albert, I would like to review Abbey’s expenditure patterns, including all vehicles she has acquired during my tenure. Please forward this information to my office.”

“Affirmative, Alpha.” He acknowledged with a nod.

He received a solitary manila envelope detailing Robyn’s expenditures, perused its contents while walking. The man appeared miserly; he purchased Kuel for his vehicle, utilised his card at the university for meals and textbooks, and settled his tuition—nothing extravagant. His expenses were typical. He seemed to dine out with his social circle weekly, occasionally treating them, and indulged in a holiday or weekend getaway. There was nothing opulent about him; he appeared to require little to sustain himself, with only a noted increase in spending coinciding with his acquaintance with Dani, which was, in itself, relatively normal.

Luke had expended more in the preceding two months than Robyn had in the last three years.

The man shook his head; he only expended fifty thousand dollars annually, which was rather atypical for an alpha male.

He tugged on the connection to Bella, aware of her precise location in their apartment. Ascending from the third to the fifth level, he saw her in his office, seated behind the desk, attired in her professional suit. She appeared entirely focused on business.

“Good morning, Bella.”

“Good morning,” she remarked, maintaining her focus on her task.

Internally sighed, “I possess the documents for Robyn that you requested, specifically his expenditure statement for the past three years. They are somewhat peculiar, even to me.”

The final remark captured her attention, prompting her to glance up at him. He smiled as she extended her hand for him to place something in it. Seizing the moment, he circled the desk to stand beside her and positioned it on the surface before her. “My brother,” he remarked while leaning against the desk adjacent to her, “rarely spends anything.”

“I shall determine that.” She said, opening the file and flipping through its contents. He remained still, observing her as she traced a finger down each page throughout her examination. Upon completion, she scowled at him.

“It was equally surprising to me.”

“This appears to have been manipulated.”

“It has not, he is reportedly quite miserly. I was unaware of that.” He leaned over and turned the pages to the section detailing Robyn’s trip to Los Angeles. “This is where he encountered Dani, took her out for dinners and dancing, and dated her; it is the sole instance of increased pack fund expenditure that I can identify. He possessed only one vehicle, the Mercedes that our parents gifted him on his 18th birthday. Now at 24, he has utilised that car for six years. It still appears new; I had assumed he had purchased a new one, but it seems to be the same model.”

She frowned further and asked, “Are you indicating that he still possesses the same car from my previous visit?”

“Indeed,” Luke said, seeing that he no longer possessed the same vehicle as he did the previous year.

“I cannot propose fifty thousand dollars annually for the prenup, as it will not be acceptable to Nina, Matt, or Mr. Hill.”

“I estimate his valuation at 20 to 30 million.”

“Dani possesses greater value than that.” She shook her head.

“It is not his pack, Bella.”

“In the event of your demise, who will inherit the pack? Robyn or Abbey?”

He was the one frowning now. “You do, then Karis and the girls when they mature.” She frowned at him again. “You are my Luna, Bella. You now possess everything I own, including the pack. If anything were to happen, it is yours.”

“What if I do not desire it?”

Why would she not desire it? It was her prerogative to assume control, to have his whole unit safeguard her as they would him. Indeed, if something were to befall him, she could select another alpha and install him as the new leader of the pack, should the triplets be too mature to assume command.

Letting out a sigh, I remarked, “We need to sit down and discuss this.”

“About?” Her eyes shifted from him to the document she held.

“Your reluctance to be present.” He asserted candidly.

She glanced at him, her look neutral and inscrutable. “I never said that,” she eventually remarked, as he continued to stare at her, anticipating a reaction.

“Occasionally, actions convey more than words, Bella.”

“I am fully cognisant of that, Luke. Alternatively, should I refer to you as Alpha, as everyone else does?”

“What prompted you to do that?” he moaned.

“That is your true nature. I recognise that my presence is solely due to your wolf’s insistence, not your own desire. It is evident that you wish for your offspring to be present, your successors to the pack. Your intentions have been unmistakably conveyed through your actions, even in the human realm.”

Bella, once the cherished lover of future Alpha Luke of the Red Moon Pack, finds her world shattered when she is banished from her pack. Her crime? Striking Luke’s newly discovered fated mate with claws unsheathed—a reflex her wolf, Tyler, cryptically defends with the words, “To protect the pup.” Stripped of her place in the pack and warned never to return, Bella complies, narrowly avoiding the rogue label since Luke has not yet ascended to full Alpha status. Heartbroken and resolute, she retreats to the human world, immersing herself in university life to complete her law degree. Bella carves out a new existence as a successful divorce attorney, far from the pack that cast her aside, the future Luna who despises her, and the secret she guards fiercely—her children, the legacy of a love she can never reclaim. Six years pass in self-imposed exile, but the past refuses to stay buried. When an official letter from the Red Moon Pack demands her return, Bella defiantly burns it, vowing never to step foot in Luke’s territory again. But Luke, now the reigning Alpha, is relentless. He will bring her back, no matter the cost. Bound by the constraints of human law and society, Luke cannot simply take her by force—her prominence in the human world complicates any attempt to make her disappear. Yet, he is determined to claim what he believes is his by right. As their paths cross again, Bella is thrust into a storm of conflicting emotions. Her wolf yearns for Luke, urging her to reclaim the bond they share, but Bella’s heart is torn. She despises the man who cast her out yet still feels the undeniable pull of their connection. To her, Luke’s motives are clear: he wants his heirs by his side, not her. She believes his wolf drives him to claim her, while the man himself sees her merely as the mother of his children, a convenient solution to his legacy. But is that the truth? Or does Luke harbor a deeper love for her that he has yet to admit—even to himself? In the battle between pride and fate, will Bella surrender to the mate bond or stand firm in her resolve to remain free? Only time will reveal whether their fractured past can heal, or if the scars will prove too deep to overcome.
