Most people’s social circles narrow as they age, with the number of friends around them constantly decreasing. Those you once thought would be lifelong friends may gradually lose touch.
As a child, one might not understand the saying “the older you get, the lonelier you become,” but later on, it becomes clear. With Jessica’s help, the three of them moved all the remaining luggage downstairs in one go.
The trunk was packed full, and the second row was almost filled as well, leaving just enough space for one adult to sit.
But that was enough; Lara could hold Macy in her arms.
Vivian was assigned to the front passenger seat, holding a few stacked plastic basins in her arms, with two thermoses at her feet.
“I can’t believe it all fit!”
“But to think we’re using such a luxury car for moving, what a waste!”
Vivian, sitting in the front passenger seat, exclaimed.
“A car is just a tool,” Jacob shrugged indifferently, then rolled down the window. “Say goodbye to your roommate; it might be hard to see each other again.”
“Not really, we’re all still in Coastville for now!”
Vivian laughed heartily but still waved to Jessica, who was standing by the car. “Jessica, come visit Lara and me when you have time.”
Lara added, “We’ll send the location in the group once we arrive.”
“Okay, safe travels~!”
Jessica smiled and waved at the two, but her gaze instinctively fell on Jacob’s profile. She had heard a lot about this brother-in-law of Lara’s in the dormitory, but this was her first time seeing him in person, which inevitably sparked a bit of curiosity.
Moreover, she had heard Lara and Vivian chatting before about how the BestDiet restaurants they opened had all closed down, forcing them to sell their house and car to pay off debts. But how was he still driving a luxury car worth millions?
About forty minutes later, Jacob parked the car in front of Building 3, Unit 2 of Zoko Community.
He then carried the two girls’ luggage upstairs. Fortunately, the third floor wasn’t too high, and they arrived quickly.
Once inside the house, Lara and Vivian first took a tour around, and both girls showed expressions of delight. Although the community was quite old, the apartment was newly decorated, and it was fully furnished with appliances, making it truly ready to move in.
“Brother-in-law, is the rent really only eighteen hundred?”
The environment of the apartment exceeded Lara’s expectations, and she asked a bit nervously.
“If you think it’s expensive, I can lower it a bit more.”
Jacob replied with a smile. As a wealthy man, he wouldn’t mind this little rent.

“It’s already cheap enough!”
Lara shook her head repeatedly, afraid of causing trouble for her brother-in-law.
“Mr. Deby, this house isn’t yours, is it?”
Vivian seemed to catch on. If this house were just a friend’s of Jacob’s, he wouldn’t have said it could be cheaper. Coupled with the fact that he was driving a luxury car, it was quite normal for him to own such a place.
However, knowing Jacob’s situation, Lara didn’t think in that direction, as Jacob and Macy were still renting a place.
But Vivian’s guess could explain why this apartment could be rented to the two of them at such a low price.
“Smart!”
Jacob nodded. Such matters couldn’t be hidden; the monthly utility bills would have the owner’s name on them. Although it wouldn’t show the full name, the surname would be visible.
To confirm if it was him, one could just ask the property management.
“I knew it! No one else would rent it to us at such a low price!”
“Mr. Deby, you’re too kind. Thank you, thank you!” Vivian expressed her gratitude repeatedly.
Lara, on the other hand, was quite surprised. She didn’t expect her friend’s guess to be true.
“Brother-in-law, but you and Macy…”
Lara wanted to say that they were still renting, but Jacob interrupted her with a wave of his hand. “I have another apartment. I’ll be moving there in about a month or two.”

“Another apartment??”
Lara’s beautiful eyes widened in surprise as she stared at her former brother-in-law, momentarily at a loss for words.
He had clearly fallen on hard times, so how did he suddenly have a house and a car?
She wanted to ask about the origin of the apartment, but Vivian was still nearby, and it would be a bit rude to ask directly as it was personal privacy.
“Alright, let’s move the stuff first!”
“It’s getting late, and you still have some tidying up to do.”
Jacob didn’t intend to continue this topic. The three of them went downstairs again to move everything upstairs.
