After Divorce, No Second Chance – Chapter 7

College

Currently, it seemed that Lara was different from her sister; at least she knew how to be grateful.

Of course, people always change; perhaps after a few years of work, she too would be materialized by this money-centric society.

In fact, being materialistic isn’t wrong; everyone wants to live better.

But being materialistic shouldn’t come at the cost of moral boundaries; one shouldn’t harm innocent people, or else that would be a crime against humanity.

Jacob firmly believed that there is karma in this world! So whether in business or in life, he would always uphold his principles!

Moreover, he was a father; not just for himself, but also to accumulate virtue for Macy.

To borrow a popular saying online: although this world is full of holes, there are always people stitching it up.

Feeling Jacob’s gaze lingering on her, Lara shyly lowered her head.

Her feelings towards this brother-in-law were somewhat complex; at first, she thought it was just gratitude.

But recently, she often recalled the scene from when she was sixteen, the first time Jacob visited their home.

That year, Jacob was 24, not yet overweight, and his hot pot restaurant was thriving; it was his prime time.

He was tall, handsome, witty, and exuded the charm of a mature man.

For a long time afterward, her mother would casually remind her that if she were to find a boyfriend, she should look for someone like her brother-in-law.

As a result, even though she had many suitors in college, Lara always used the Jacob of that year as a reference.

The outcome was that she never met a boy who made her heart race.

Thus, for Lara, this brother-in-law who once supported their entire family was not just a benefactor but also the white moonlight in her youthful heart.

A true white moonlight, for he illuminated the impoverished Cuppy family, bringing a tremendous change to their living conditions.

To lose weight, Jacob dared not consume too many calories; after finishing half a Plate of rice, he stopped eating.

On the other hand, Macy, who had already eaten at kindergarten, was fully embracing her little foodie nature, happily devouring the meat.

Lara felt a sense of accomplishment as she occasionally picked a few pieces of fish and placed them in the little girl’s Plate.

“Brother-in-law, you can go to work with peace of mind later; I can help Macy with her homework at home.”

Lara spoke up as they were finishing their meal.

“Okay, I’ll be back around eight.”

“By then, you’ll still have the bus to school.”

It was only a little past five, and Jacob decided to go out for another three hours, just to help with digestion.

After resting for a moment, Jacob changed into his work clothes and headed out.

At this time, it was mealtime, and the order volume was quite large. With his rich experience, he could handle three orders at once.

He kept busy until nearly eight o’clock, and the evening rush hour had passed.

Ding! A new order has been grabbed for you.

Just as Jacob caught his breath, the notification sound from Uber Delivery rang again.

He glanced at it; the pickup location was only a few hundred meters away, at a barbecue restaurant.

Jacob started his electric bike and quickly arrived at the restaurant.

“Uber 018, is it ready?”

Jacob reported the order number and asked the server standing behind the bar.

“Just a moment!”

The other party casually replied while fiddling with her phone.

This situation was quite normal, so Jacob sat down in the waiting area.

“Brother Jacob??”

Just as he sat down, a familiar voice suddenly rang out.

Jacob looked up, slightly taken aback.

The person calling him was a girl with a delicate appearance; she wasn’t particularly beautiful, but she had a pleasant look that was quite appealing.

Jacob was very familiar with this girl; her name was Sarah Jasper. She had been the manager of Jacob’s hot pot restaurant and had followed him since he opened his first hot pot restaurant. At that time, Sarah Jasper was only 18 years old, having dropped out of high school to work in Onitsha, and her first job was as a waitress in Jacob’s hot pot restaurant.

This girl was smart and diligent, and when Jacob opened his second hot pot restaurant, he promoted her to manager. She had been with him until last year when all the hot pot restaurants closed down.

“Sarah, long time no see.”

Seeing this once loyal subordinate, Jacob felt quite emotional.

When Sarah Jasper first arrived in Onitsha, she was only 18; now, ten years had passed, and the once youthful girl was no longer young. By now, she was 28 years old.

“Brother Jacob, how have you been lately?”
