After Divorce, No Second Chance – Chapter 52

Whole forest!

Meanwhile, Ryan, who had been listening to their conversation, couldn’t help but chuckle inwardly, thinking this old man was really committed to his weight loss persona, not forgetting it even now.

“Layla, I might be promoted to store manager soon. If you’re not happy at GetFit, come work at my store. With me around, you’ll definitely be more comfortable than at GetFit.”

Ryan said to Layla.

“Okay,” she replied casually.

Seeing her lack of enthusiasm, Ryan turned to Jacob: “Mr. Jacob, have you ever thought about switching to being a fitness trainer? You actually have quite the potential. Just lose thirty to forty pounds and then build some muscle.”

“Being a fitness trainer would definitely earn you more than delivering takeout, and you’d have a great chance of meeting wealthy women. Who knows, you might change your fate!”

Jacob nodded, then smiled and asked, “Have you met any wealthy women?”

“I have, but I don’t like being a kept man. I still want to strive for myself!”

“The things you want can actually be obtained through your own efforts. Just last month, I mortgaged a house in Coastville. That’s the result of my hard work over the years!”

Ryan boasted, showing off that he was part of the home-owning crowd.

“Brother Ryan is truly young and promising!” Jacob sincerely praised. Given that the average house price in Coastville was around fifteen thousand, it was indeed impressive for someone Ryan’s age to have mortgaged a house.

“How can I be considered young and promising?”

“I’m still far from it!” Ryan smiled humbly, increasingly satisfied with Jacob’s supportive role.

Jacob had no intention of showing off or putting anyone down. Someone with his experience really didn’t care to compete with a young man, especially since he was just a fake expert, unable to win through merit.

As the saying goes, “Let him show off as he pleases, the gentle breeze caresses the mountain ridge; let him flaunt as he wishes, the bright moon shines over the great river.”

Everyone has been young; if you don’t show off, can you really call yourself young? Jacob looked at Ryan’s unintentional display of arrogance and felt a sense of nostalgia for his own youth.

At Ryan’s age, he already owned two Best Diet restaurants.

In his twenties, having achieved a small measure of success, Jacob had also gone through a phase of showing off, always trying to impress friends or women.

You could only say that people do what is appropriate for their age!

However, Jacob didn’t suppress Ryan mainly because the latter posed no threat and didn’t engage in mindless mockery or hostility.

If the other party had truly tried to belittle him, Jacob wouldn’t have minded giving this young brother a lesson.

But Josie’s thoughts were completely different from Jacob’s. In her eyes, this old baby was simply too scheming. Clearly, he had the financial upper hand, yet he pretended to be worthless, quietly watching the other person boast about trivial things while playing the supportive role.

Was it a moral decline or a distortion of human nature?

This old baby was truly terrifying when he got scheming!!

The other day, when he saw my reply saying, “We’re not suitable, I hope you can cooperate,” that was probably his current mindset.

But since my old baby likes to act, I have to cooperate!

So, Josie asked, “Mr. Jacob, did you give the house to your ex-wife when you divorced?”

“The house was sold, we split the money, and I used my share to pay off debts,” Jacob replied honestly.

However, upon hearing Jacob’s answer, Josie couldn’t help but twitch her mouth violently a couple of times. This old baby really climbs up the ladder as soon as he gets a chance!

Selling the house to pay off debts??

You really thought of that!! Meanwhile, Ryan was stunned by their conversation. He hadn’t expected Jacob to be not only an unemployed old man but also a divorced and indebted one, almost maxing out his negative buffs!

For a moment, he even felt a bit sorry for Jacob.

No wonder he wanted to establish a weight loss persona to save money; this guy really was broke! People are often like this. When interacting with someone on the same level, they always hope to put the other down.

But when faced with someone far beneath them, the kind part of their heart gets magnified, and they feel pity for them, willingly wanting to help.

At that moment, Ryan felt this way. He looked at Jacob and comforted him: “Mr. Jacob, actually, divorce isn’t necessarily a bad thing because you’ve regained a whole forest!”

“As long as you work hard enough, one day, you’ll definitely be able to have a flourishing tree again!”

“Like someone as excellent as Josie, right, Josie?”

As he finished speaking, Ryan shot Josie a glance, signaling her to cooperate and comfort this downcast old man.
