After Divorce, No Second Chance – Chapter 37

Rich friend?

“Hey, you bought a bag?”

“Wow! Prada!!”

Josie initially wanted to vent about her blind date, but upon seeing the Prada shopping bag on the coffee table, her eyes lit up: “Layla, you’ve hit the jackpot!”

“How could I afford it? A friend gave it to me!”

Layla casually replied, thinking to herself that she and Jacob should be considered friends by now.

“Friend?”

“Isn’t that the creepy guy who bought fifty private training sessions?” Josie asked with a gossiping expression.

“Not him!”

“If it were him, I wouldn’t accept it!” Layla shook her head in denial.

“Then who is it?”

“When did you get such a rich friend?”

“Could it be that senior from our school who’s been pursuing you?” Josie continued guessing.

“Neither, just stop guessing.”

Layla shook her head and took the Prada handbag out of the dust bag, walking to the mirror to try it on.

“It’s this model!”

“I remember you said you liked it the last time we went to Starlight City!”

Josie also crowded in front of the mirror, looking at the handbag in Layla’s hand with envy.

Layla kept changing angles in front of the mirror; this bag truly matched her aesthetic. Of course, her admiration was also due to the Prada brand; if it were just a bag worth one or two hundred, she wouldn’t be so invested.

“Layla, tell me about this rich friend of yours.”

“A bag worth over twenty thousand just given away, he must have great conditions!”

Josie was very interested in the mysterious rich man who gifted her friend a Prada bag. At 27, her goal was to catch a wealthy husband, for which she had done a lot of homework and even spent a fortune enrolling in a golf class, determined to cross social classes through marriage.

In fact, there were many women like her, but only a few could successfully “get ashore.” Forget marrying a rich man; being kept as a mistress was already a pretty good outcome.

Layla actually had a desire to share, especially since Josie had a knack for analyzing men. She wanted to hear her friend’s opinion about Jacob.

So, Layla recounted her experiences from today.

“One hundred private training sessions, two Prada handbags!”

“Spending over eighty thousand in a day!”

“Layla, you’ve really met a rich man, and he’s just divorced! People need emotional comfort the most at this time; this opportunity is simply rare!”

After hearing the story, Josie’s eyes sparkled with excitement; this was exactly the target she had been desperately searching for.

“I don’t think Jacob has any ulterior motives; he might just be thanking me,” Layla said.

“Do you have any thoughts about him?” Josie asked while rubbing her hands, looking eager to try.

“Josie Axel, you don’t have feelings for him, do you?”

“He has a daughter.”

Layla knew her friend too well; she was the type who always talked about marrying into a wealthy family, clearly having developed feelings for Jacob.

“Having a daughter isn’t a problem. A man like him must be eager to have a son. If I can give him a son, my position will be secure,” Josie said with a grin.

“You don’t mind being a stepmother?”

Although she knew her friend was determined to marry into wealth, she didn’t expect her to be okay with becoming a stepmother right away.

“Layla, you must have some misunderstanding about stepmothers!”

“Being a stepmother to a poor family is tough, but with someone like Jacob, it’s a comfortable position. Plus, his daughter is still very young, so there’s plenty of time to build a relationship. If I can win over his daughter, my position will be even more secure!”

Josie became more excited as she spoke: “Layla, if you really don’t have feelings for him, I might just make a move.”

“Then go ahead and try.”

Layla gently shook her head; she only had a good impression of Jacob after all, having only known him for a day. Moreover, she wasn’t as materialistic as Josie; in her view, good economic conditions were just a bonus. Besides, she couldn’t accept the idea of becoming a stepmother right away.

So, for now, she regarded Jacob as a very nice and wealthy man.

“Just remember you said that; don’t regret it later.”

Josie laughed as she linked her arm with Layla’s: “I happen to have a day off tomorrow. I was planning to go swimming with you, and it’s a perfect chance to have a chance encounter with Jacob!”

Josie worked as a counter assistant for Lincoln, and the customers she interacted with usually had decent spending power, including quite a few wealthy individuals, as ordinary people wouldn’t splurge on cosmetics that cost thousands.

Her job had a rotating schedule; she didn’t take weekends off but could take a day off from Monday to Thursday.
