In the President’s Office.
Jacob spun around in his comfortable executive chair.
The identity of president was still quite novel to him, after all, he had only seen so-called domineering presidents on television before.
He never expected that one day, he would get to experience the feeling of being a president himself.
Knock, knock, knock. At that moment, someone knocked on the door of the president’s office.
Jacob immediately adjusted his sitting posture and said, “Come in.”
“President Jacob.”
“I have some work to discuss with you.”
The person who entered was a middle-aged man who looked to be around forty years old, dressed in a sharp brown suit, with his hair meticulously styled.
Jacob remembered this man; his name was Brody Mark, one of the four vice presidents of the group, in charge of the Human Resources Center. The Human Resources Center had three departments: the Organization and Personnel Department, the Compensation and Performance Department, and the Employee Relations Department.
“Vice President Brody, please take a seat.”
Jacob stood up and moved to the meeting area, sitting down on the sofa with Brody.
“President Jacob, it’s like this.”
“President Frank has taken almost all the staff from the president’s office, so we need to recruit new people. Do you think I should pull staff from other departments or recruit anew?”
“Or do you have suitable candidates in mind?”
Brody got straight to the point without beating around the bush.
“Let’s recruit anew.”
Jacob thought for a moment and then gave his answer.
As an airlifted president, if the president’s office was filled with people pulled by Brody, he would be directly sidelined.
Although Jacob had never been a president before, he could understand this much.
“Alright, I’ll arrange that immediately.”
Brody nodded and then asked, “Does President Jacob have any specific requirements for the secretary?”
“A secretary?”
Jacob thought for a moment and said, “As long as they are capable.”
The workload of a secretary is quite large, so they must be competent.
“Uh, understood!”
Brody nodded again, feeling that this seemingly aloof president was not as serious as he appeared.
For a large group like Coastville Newspaper, the threshold for a president’s secretary is quite high, usually with three hard indicators.
Good image and temperament.
Graduated from a university.
Proficient in at least one foreign language.
And this is just the threshold; each point can be further detailed with many requirements. For example, the first point about good image and temperament is quite vague; it actually means a height of no less than 165 cm, age not exceeding 26, unmarried with no plans for childbirth in the short term, or married with children.
However, under normal circumstances, married candidates would be passed over in the president’s interview round, unless the president is a fan of fear.
Yet Jacob did not mention any of these detailed requirements, only giving a four-word guideline: “As long as they are capable!”
President Jacob probably thought these basic requirements didn’t need to be stated.
This “as long as they are capable” should be an additional requirement.
Brody silently speculated about the thoughts of this new president.
“President Jacob, I’ll go ahead and finalize the formation of the president’s office.”
“By the way, there is still one presidential assistant left. Do you want to transfer them or keep them?”
Brody asked again.
“Is it a male or female assistant?” Jacob inquired.
“Female assistant, just started a week ago,” Brody replied.
“Call her over; I want to have a chat with her.”
This kind of newcomer, who just started, could still be useful to Jacob, but he needed to see what the situation was.
“Alright!”
Brody responded and then left the president’s office.
A moment later, the female assistant left by Mr. Frank came to report to Jacob.
The girl looked to be around twenty-four or twenty-five, with a neat short haircut and a good image and temperament. If only considering external conditions, she could match Vienna.
“President Jacob, my name is Neriah Eff, and my previous position was as President Frank’s second assistant.”
The girl took the initiative to introduce herself; the so-called second assistant was the second assistant.
“Mm, have a seat.”
“I heard you just started a week ago?” Jacob casually asked.
“Yes, I was working in the capital before, and I only returned after receiving the offer.”
Neriah truthfully introduced her situation. In fact, since yesterday, she had been in a state of confusion. Not wanting to drift into the capital, she had finally secured a good offer relatively close to her hometown in Coastville.
However, during the onboarding training, the entire department left, leaving her alone.
Neriah felt like crying; from yesterday until now, she had been worried about her future. If this new president formed the president’s office, she would inevitably be reassigned, and her future was uncertain.
In the Coastville Evening News’ reporter department.
Lara was venting her experiences to her best friend, Vivian on WhatsApp. Although she was emotionally stable, encountering such frustrating matters naturally required an outlet for her feelings.
Meanwhile, Vivian, who was slacking off, immediately began to rant after hearing about her best friend’s experiences.
Vivian: What a piece of trash, Director Ivan! Absolutely despicable!
Vivian: Lara, let’s not put up with this; we can always change jobs.
Vivian: He even wants you to accompany him for drinks; what a delusional thought!
Vivian: Such shameless old men should be exposed!!
“Lara, I heard the list for our current batch of regularization has come out.”
Just as Lara was scrolling through the WhatsApp messages sent by Vivian, the intern reporter from the “Entertainment and Sports” group, Clare, approached her desk with a thermos cup.
The two had entered the newspaper together as intern reporters.
However, Lara surpassed her in both external image and professional ability.
As a result, Clare, also an intern reporter, had always been overshadowed by Lara, and now the regularization spot had fallen to her.
Eager to show off her first victory, Clare couldn’t wait to come and boast.
“Mm, congratulations.” Lara roughly understood the other person’s thoughts and casually responded.
“Now that traditional print media is struggling, this year’s regularization spots have been cut in half, so the competition is extremely fierce. I’m just lucky.”
“But Lara, don’t be discouraged; you should be on the next list.”
After boasting, Clare didn’t forget to offer a feigned consolation.
However, as soon as she finished speaking, Tonia, who was nearby, interjected, “Clare, your words are too modest; there’s no such thing as luck!”
“It’s just that you’ve been working hard behind the scenes!”
Tonia understood Lara and knew that this girl had a non-competitive nature, so she directly countered Clare.
