A Betrayed Luna – Chapter 8

My nightstand

“There it is. That is all I have to convey to you,” she exhales with a grin, appearing relieved to express this sentiment.

An overwhelming fury surges through me as I realise that my sister was really a self-serving individual whom I naively let into my life. Clenching my teeth, I affirm my resolve and resume packing my luggage.

“Understood,” I murmur, firming my grasp on the rings in my possession. “I shall take my leave now; I would not wish to impede you further.”

My response astonishes her.

“Are you serious?” she enquires, a hint of scepticism in her tone. “You intend to depart without contesting?”

“Why would I contend with you for his affection?” I enquire, shrugging as I secure my bag and hoist it onto my shoulder. I approach her, a perverse desire to inflict pain surging within me. “However, keep this in mind the next time he indulges in your intimacy while you engage with him,” I remark with a smirk, relishing the astonishment etched on her face. “He abandoned me due to my inability to provide him with a progeny,” I state, retrieving a bottle of aspirin from my nightstand. “Not because his feelings for you were superior.”

I observed the wrath boiling within her, and it was gratifying to provoke her just this one. “If he could abandon me, his destined mate, so effortlessly, how swiftly do you believe he will discard you once he loses interest?”

Her eyes narrow to slits directed at me, however I disregard her and focus on the bottle in my hands. As she prepares to speak, I forcefully strike the bottle of aspirin on her chest.

“Oh, and you will require these shortly…” I remark with a smile, fluttering my eyelashes at her. “Just be grateful we do not have another sister.”

I forcefully close the door while she vociferates obscenities at me. Suppressing my laughter, I inadvertently collide with Aldo in the corridor, his icy gaze instilling a sense of dread within me.

“What did you communicate to my future spouse?” he growls, seizing my arm in his substantial hands.

A little moan leaves my lips as I comprehend that the extraordinary sparks I once experienced from his touch are diminishing. It is indeed finished for us.

The rings on my hand like heated coals, serving as a reminder of my fortunate liberation from him. He will never inflict harm upon me again. Summoning the few power I possess, I steel my expression and wrench my arm from his grasp.

“Here,” I hiss, thrusting the rings into his chest. “You may sell them for all I care.”

“Retain them,” Nina chuckles as she enters the hall. “You will require the funds more than we do,” she grins, fluttering her eyelashes at Aldo. “Consider purchasing a vibrator; you appear somewhat tense.”

I must restrain myself from attacking her. I was no longer Aldo’s companion, and it is uncertain what he may do to me if I harmed his new Luna.

Aldo smirks at her, entirely disregarding my presence and relegating me to the periphery. Tears well in my eyes at his effortless forgetfulness, yet I wipe them aside, seizing the opportunity of his preoccupation to dash for the stairs.

Regrettably, I discover Marlon awaiting me at the entrance, an expression of remorse evident in his black eyes.

Expletive. May I not depart in tranquilly?

“Laura, I… I…” He anxiously massages the back of his head, his gaze wandering aimlessly throughout the halls.

I dry my tears and straighten my posture. “I do not require your consolation, Jo,” I reply with a shrug. “There is no longer a necessity to feign friendship.” “You are finally liberated from my presence,” I state, feigning a grin. “Farewell.”

“I was never feigning, Luna—I mean Laura…” he contends. “I simply… Blood Night is my domicile.” “My sole residence,” he states softly. “I could not feasibly abandon everything.”

I turn away from him and throw my bag over my shoulder. “Do not be concerned about it.” I will manage alone. I am no longer your concern.

I attempt to manoeuvre around him, but he seizes my wrist and halts my progress.

Instinctively, I swung my arm and struck him across the face, catching him entirely off guard.

“I apologise. Did that cause you pain?” I enquire, feigning astonishment while nonchalantly shrugging. “It is likely merely a product of your imagination.”

“Laura… I-I” he falters, urgently seeking a rationale.

“Cease,” I retort, raising my hand to halt him as I manoeuvre around him towards the door. “I appreciate your companionship over these months,” I state. “I am delighted that this gamma bond holds significant value for you.”

I rotate the door knob upon hearing his voice once more.

“Laura, I apologise. Allow me to accompany you to your accommodation; I wish to ensure your safety.”
