Undoubtedly, he would orchestrate my assassination and impose stringent training on Bray to usurp the Alpha rank, transforming my gentle son into a formidable Alpha.
Bray’s expansive eyes enlarge as he smiles at Jadi, who flushes beneath his scrutiny. “However, Jadi rescued me, mother. He prevented the malevolent wolf from capturing me!” He dismounts from my lap and rushes into Jadi’s embrace. “Subsequently, Jadi’s wolf transported me home.”
Jadi’s expression stiffens, his body tensing at the reference to his wolf.
“Aoh aoh aaooooh!” Bray suddenly emits a wolf-like howl. “Jadi is a wolf, mommy. Were you aware of that?” He howls joyfully once more. “May I become a wolf, mother? May I become a wolf like Jadi?”
A multitude of questions arises in my mind. How could he ascertain that Jadi is a wolf, and how could he possible be aware that a wolf was pursuing us?
I moisten my parched lips, uncertain how to answer his inquiry. I always anticipated the day he would acquire his wolf, however his initial transformation was many years distant; I believed I would have ample time to devise an explanation for why he would sense another presence within him or hear a faint voice in his mind.
Jadi’s gaze appears to penetrate my soul as I observe my optimistic puppy still cradled in his arms.
Although I loathed wolves, my son was the anomaly. I would instruct him to be a devoted wolf to his family and, should he encounter his mate, he would never cause her harm.
“Certainly, you may,” I ultimately articulate. “You may become whatever you desire.”
Bray emits another howl, moving on all fours and barking at me.
I wish to convey to him that he will be a magnificent wolf, yet I restrain my words and smile as he frolics in the blankets with his tongue lolling out.
“Hurry, Bray,” I assert, disregarding Jadi’s inquisitive gaze as I rise from the bed. “We must attire ourselves.”
—
The delightful scent of crepes permeates the home as Bray and I enter the kitchen, both of us nearly salivating. We omitted dinner yesterday night and proceeded directly to bed after our shower.
Laura’s Perspective
The intense light filtering through the window irritates my swollen eyes, prompting a small murmur from me. I am reluctant to awaken, especially after the dreadful night filled with horrors I experienced. Seeking solace, I extend my hand in pursuit of Bray. My eyes widen in surprise upon discovering the bed vacant, his side uncomfortably cold.
We observe Melina diligently pouring pancake batter onto a heated skillet, skilfully swirling it in circles to create a flawless pancake. Despite her efforts in the kitchen, Melina is as stunning as ever with an elegant top and coordinating skirt. She graciously greets Bray and me with a good morning but scowls at me when I attempt to take a pancake, swatting my hand away to prevent me from touching her meal.
My sulks are ineffective against her, so I assist her in packing the chopped fruits and fillings for transport to the main pack house. Once we are prepared to depart, Jadi and Melina transport the food while I guide Bray towards the mansion, gripping his hand firmly as my restless gaze surveys the surroundings apprehensively.
I remind myself that he cannot locate us here as we enter the mansion. We are secure.
An omega greets us at the entrance and escorts us to a spacious dining room, where the Queen and King are already seated and engaged in conversation.
Alpha Mark occupies the position at the head of the table, with his Queen seated on his left. Andrew is seated next to Josie, accompanied by an unfamiliar girl. To Mark’s right is another pair whom we did not encounter yesterday. The remainder of the table is vacant.
A portion of Gamma Andrew’s responsibilities appears to involve irritating his Alpha, who glares at him with intensity as he narrates a tale.
“Regardless, Mark sprinted through the entire school in the n**e, searching for his clothing,” Andrew gasps, with Josie nearly in tears beside him. “He was extremely angry—”
His voice ceases upon his realisation of our presence, as Josie stands to welcome us.
“Please feel free to make yourselves comfortable,” she directs, indicating the vacant seats.
She indicates the girl next to Andrew. “This is Thia, Andrew’s partner and my cousin.” She then motions to the couple on Mark’s right. “And this is Beta Wesley and his wife Aliana, Mark’s younger sister.”
Aliana rises abruptly and hurries towards us, a benevolent smile adorning her face. Her eyes widen in astonishment upon observing the food in Melina and Jadi’s possession.
“Are those crepes?” she exclaims. “Saviez-vous que nous sommes français? We adore crepes!”
“Melina is both mute and deaf,” I clarify as Melina gazes vacantly at Aliana. “Therefore, she will not comprehend you.”
