“Dad’s gift is a bit big; you’ll find out soon,” Jacob affectionately ruffled his precious daughter’s hair.
“Dad, when is my birthday?” Macy blinked her big eyes and asked.
“In two months. Why do you ask?” Jacob looked at the little girl; her birthday was on May 10th, and it was only March now.
“Because I want a birthday gift!” Macy pouted.
“Uh, what kind of gift do you want?” Jacob asked curiously.
Macy looked up at her dad and said seriously, “I want a new mom!”
Jacob could understand a child’s feelings and obsessions towards their mother. But the key to Macy’s statement lay in the word “new.”
What she wanted was not a mother, but a new mother!!
This meant that the little girl was completely disappointed with her original mother; otherwise, she wouldn’t have said she wanted a new one.
Jacob certainly understood Macy’s thoughts, but the expression of the designated driver, who was currently driving, became quite interesting as he kept glancing back at the rearview mirror.
Perhaps he hadn’t expected that by taking a driving job, he would also get to witness such a juicy piece of gossip.
The little girl said she wanted a new mother, so how many mothers had she had before this??
The driver stole a glance at Jacob from the corner of his eye, thinking: These rich people really know how to play; they casually switch out mothers for their kids.
He also wanted to switch out a mother for his child, but unfortunately, the child’s current mother might just kill him! “So, what kind of mother does Macy want?”
Jacob followed the little girl’s topic and asked.
“One like Auntie!”
Clearly, Macy had a target in mind. Jacob remembered that this little girl had mentioned wanting her aunt to be her mother more than once.
If he remembered correctly, Macy’s second choice was Kyra.
“What about besides Auntie?” Jacob asked.
“Teacher Kyra!”
As expected, the ranking of the two in the little girl’s mind hadn’t changed.
“Any others?” Jacob asked again.
“Auntie Vivian is also okay.”
This time, Macy took a moment to think before answering.
Vivian had a lively and cheerful personality and was a foodie, which made her quite compatible with Macy. Many weekends, when Macy was at Lara’s place, she often played crazily with Vivian.
Jacob nodded and gently touched his precious daughter’s forehead: “Daddy understands.”
Macy blinked her big eyes, a bit confused about what her father meant.
She had thought her father would choose one, but he only said he understood.
The designated driver, who had been eavesdropping on the gossip, couldn’t help but mentally complain: Understand? What do you understand?!
Why not give the child a definite answer! Wait, something’s off! This person is not right!
It seemed he hadn’t thought about making a choice at all; he was just asking his daughter if she had any other favorites.
In the end, the little girl named three people.
And then he said he understood.
What does that mean? Is he planning to take all three?? Damn!
The wicked rich man! Can’t he share one with me?!
The designated driver had initially been in a mood to enjoy the gossip, but as he listened, his mindset exploded.
He couldn’t even figure out one wife. And here this guy was, already looking to acquire multiple!
The contrast was simply too strong.
Lara’s birthday party was set at a place called Chester. It was an AA-style restaurant, with a nice environment and reasonable prices.
When Jacob arrived, there were already eight people in the private room. Besides Lara and her five roommates, there were also two young men in their twenties, who were the boyfriends of Lara’s roommates.
It was agreed that family members could be brought to the birthday party, so two of Lara’s roommates brought their boyfriends.
In fact, Jacob was also attending as a family member. “Macy, have you missed your sister?”
Vivian, who was already familiar with Macy, smiled and asked when she saw her.
“Auntie Vivian, didn’t we just see each other this morning?” Macy pouted in response.
“Uh, it seems so.”
Vivian was momentarily taken aback, realizing that Macy had been picked up from their place that morning.
Wait!
That’s not the point!
The point is that this little girl is still using the term “Auntie.”
During their time together yesterday, Vivian had corrected her many times, telling her to call her “Sister Vivian”! Yet here the little girl was, calling her Auntie again.
Lara introduced everyone.
Among her five roommates, Jacob recognized Vivian and Jessica.
The remaining three were named Cora, Maeve, and Jade.
Maeve and Jade had come with their boyfriends, one named Vincent and the other named Milo. After greeting a few people, Jacob sat down next to Lara.
“Auntie, happy birthday!”
“Here’s your gift,” Macy handed the prepared card to Lara.
“Wow, there’s a gift too!”
“Thank you, Macy!”
Receiving Macy’s gift surprised Lara, and she kissed the little girl on the cheek as she took the card.
“Mr. Jacob, what about your gift?”
Seeing that Macy had given a gift while Jacob remained indifferent, Vivian couldn’t help but ask. Knowing this Mr. Jacob, he must have prepared something.
As she asked, everyone’s gaze in the private room naturally fell on Jacob.
In fact, everyone was quite surprised to learn that Lara had invited her ex-brother-in-law to the birthday party.
After all, he was already an ex-brother-in-law, a thing of the past.
Moreover, there was quite an age gap, so they probably wouldn’t have much in common.
Yet Lara still invited this ex-brother-in-law and even saved a spot for him, clearly valuing his presence.
Before Jacob arrived, Jade had even joked about whether Lara had developed feelings for her ex-brother-in-law. “Of course, I prepared a gift, but it’s still on the way!” Jacob replied mysteriously.
“Still on the way?”
Vivian became even more curious: “Mr. Jacob, did you send someone to deliver it?”
“Uh, sort of!”
Jacob nodded; a same-city delivery service should count as sending someone.
“Auntie, Daddy’s gift for you is really big!”
At this moment, Macy said with a grin. She didn’t know what her father had sent, but on the way, Jacob had mentioned that the gift was big.
“A really big gift??”
Macy had given a hint, and Vivian began to brainstorm. However, her own ideas weren’t enough, so she rallied the other roommates: “Come on, let’s all guess what Mr. Jacob’s gift is, just for fun!”
“Mr. Jacob, you be the NPC for once! Each of us can ask you one question about the gift, and you just need to answer yes or no!”
Vivian had even arranged for Jacob, forcibly pulling him into this childish guessing game.
Jacob was a bit sensitive to the term “NPC” because his NPCs were the kind that could be explored deeply.
“I’ll go first.”
