The Alpha’s Second Chance – Chapter 211

Departed

It was now late, in the depths of the night.

“Food,” Layla informed her.

“Agreed,” Brianna replied, noting that the pain in her stomach was excruciating.

“I am famished,” Layla interjected once more.

She turned her head while sitting up in bed and observed Logan sleeping in the adjacent bed.

He observed that he was wearing his pyjamas and scanned the room. No one else was present; Ryder must have put him to bed and exited the room. She expressed gratitude for that.

She exited the bed; they ought to have left sustenance for her, undoubtedly. Activated the lamp adjacent to the couch and surveyed the surroundings. There is still no food, not even snacks or fruit, she sighed and shook her head. Consequently, she informed him that there was no food available here. Ryder was expected to have left her some food. Clearly not.

She would have to retrieve something herself, despite her reluctance to leave Logan alone in the room. What if he were to awaken? Would he experience fear or panic due to her absence from the room?

Brianna was unaware of the answers to her enquiries. “Food, I’m hungry.” Layla exhaled in frustration at her reluctance to exit the suite, and coincidentally, her stomach audibly growled, prompting her to bite her lip. What actions should be taken? Food was essential.

Layla had been administering healing all day and was currently in need of energy. Their hunger pangs likely roused both individuals.

It was necessary to undertake the perilous journey to the pack-house kitchen. At least she was aware of its location, and at this late hour, there would be no one present. At that moment, Layla appeared indifferent to the presence of other wolves, as her hunger overshadowed all other considerations.

Positioned at her bedroom door, she opened it quietly, glanced back at Logan to ensure he remained undisturbed, engaged the door lock to keep it ajar for her return, and then stepped into the hallway, having resolved to procure food to bring back and consume in the room. She would seize anything in her sight, irrespective of its nature.

The corridor was devoid of individuals, with only two lights illuminated at each end, indicating that Ryder was evidently unconcerned about her potential escape or any risk to her safety. Otherwise, there would have been some form of information regarding her. Secured the door with a subdued click.

Upon hearing the sound of a door opening, she bit her lip. She may have been observed, as she turned towards the sound emanating from the corridor on her left. Stood and gazed at the sight of Sadie emerging from a door below. I had not seen that girl since the day in the alleyway.

Upon recognising that she was exiting the Beta’s suite, she carried a pair of shoes in one arm while emerging from Luca’s room, seemingly attempting to sneak away; her hair was dishevelled, and she was clad only in a t-shirt.

Brianna observed the girl turn her head abruptly, her eyes wide, though she did not gaze directly at Brianna but rather at Ryder’s room, leading to a realisation for Brianna. She had been informed that she bore the fragrance of Ryder; his aroma had become her own. Sadie detected Ryder’s scent, and her abrupt head movement was due to the fact that she was involved with the Pack’s Beta. She feared her brother, the Alpha, had just caught her exiting Lucas’ room in a dishevelled state, likely reeking of him as well.

Brianna merely stood and observed until the girl’s gaze located her in the corridor. It took only a few seconds to observe her biting her bottom lip. Brianna had overheard remarks regarding Sadie’s new boyfriend, and the wolf himself was apprehensive about the Alpha’s response to this relationship.

Indeed, it was highly probable that Luca was exceedingly paranoid regarding Ryder discovering this information, and he had justifiable grounds for such concern. He was engaging in a relationship with his Alpha’s younger sister. According to my memory, she was merely 18, and Luca was the same age as Ryder. The man was entirely justified in his apprehension regarding his Alpha discovering the truth.

He raised an eyebrow at the girl but remained silent. A moment later, he observed Luca entering the doorway of his room, still fastening his trousers, who then directed a frown at her. It was evident that neither of them had anticipated anyone being present in the Alpha corridor at this hour.

Observed with keen interest as the two engaged in a silent exchange, presumably deliberating through their mental connection regarding their response to being discovered. Sadie then looked at her and swiftly proceeded down the hall, vanishing down the omega stairs.

Luca was approaching her directly, “Inside Brianna.”

“No, I am famished, and Layla is as well.”

“I will retrieve something for you, but we must converse first,” he remarked, as he opened her room door.

“I am indifferent, Luca,” she remarked gently, aiming to avoid disturbing Logan. “What you engage in or with whom you engage.” and she did not. Others’ actions were not her concern.

“Therefore, you will not…disclose anything.” He enquired with equal quietude.

“No,” Brianna replied, shaking her head. “That is your issue to resolve.”

She now comprehended why he had been conversing with Sadie on the phone in the hotel lobby, as he presumably wished to prevent Ryder from overhearing their discussion, likely of a romantic nature.

He merely stated, “Good.” regarding the matter. I will procure sustenance for you.

“Hasten.” We are famished; there is no dinner.

“Indeed.” He acknowledged and departed.
