The Alpha’s Second Chance – Chapter 208

Nourished

He presented her with the card and smiled. She understood that, as the Alpha, he possessed a master key granting him access to every room in the building. Locking the door was futile; it would not prevent his entry. She was reasonably confident that he could easily confine her if he desired.

He did not enter the room; instead, he ushered her inside, advised her to take her time and acclimatise, then exited and closed the door. She perceived the lock engage and shook her head. Pivoted and surveyed the room. It resembled an expansive hotel suite, she observed, featuring a deep, plush couch and a coordinating armchair. Both were composed of cream suede and adorned with green throw pillows. A fireplace featured a sizable wall-mounted television above the mantel.

The ensuite was elegantly designed with white marble, accented by slender, jewel-green tiles that extended from the ceiling to a height of one-quarter to one-half of the walls, reminiscent of cascading vines, she mused while filling the expansive soaker tub for Logan.

He sat silently in anticipation, appearing somewhat cold to her, as he was clad only in a towel after removing his wet garments. “It’s akin to a small pool, Mum,” he remarked.

“Indeed, it does.” She considered it could be mistaken for a modest plunge pool.

“My bath is not as large as this.”

Brianna conceded, “Indeed, it is not; his bath is less than half the size of this one.” The ensuite in her Colorado residence was not nearly as expansive as this one, although her bath was a luxury she permitted herself, the sole indulgence she truly allowed.

“Enter,” she instructed once it was filled. “I will leave the door ajar to await your arrival.”

He nodded and entered the water, which reached his shoulders upon sitting. It was filled with bubbles. “It’s so deep,” he remarked.

“No frivolous behavior,” she remarked. “However, remain calm and embrace warmth.”

“It is already pleasantly warm,” he smiled at her.

She exited the bathroom, leaving the door fully ajar. Although he was capable of swimming, she remained attentive to him, ensuring his safety.

She approached and settled onto the plush couch, which was undeniably soft and luxurious. Leaning back, she surveyed the room, noting a large bed against the far wall, as well as a proper single bed that had been introduced, rather than a mere trundle bed. It appeared that Ryder’s son would rest comfortably.

She exhaled softly, understanding why this accommodation was a one-bedroom suite; most Alphas would not accept a Luna with an existing child. Therefore, additional bedrooms are unnecessary. It was designed for a single woman, not a single mother.

Enquired about the possibility of her relocation to a different room.

Insufficient space existed here for her and Logan. Despite her affection for him, she appreciated having a private room, her own tranquil space. Otherwise, the environment felt congested; I dismissed it and rose. She could only enquire, although it may not be received favourably.

Upon entering the closet, she discovered that all her garments were not only meticulously hung and folded but also impeccably ironed and pressed, as were Logan’s, for that matter. The weather here was frigid, given the proximity to winter. In this closet were garments intended for the impending warm summer in Toronto. There were no winter garments available here.

I retrieved some pyjamas and placed them on his bed. Although it was only approaching four in the afternoon, she had no intention of wandering about, as she was beginning to feel fatigued and likely should still be in the hospital, not yet fully recuperated, she surmised.

Regarding the invitation for the family dinner, she had no intention of participating today and was entirely unprepared to confront it.

Ryder appeared to comprehend the situation, refraining from further inquiry and expressing this sentiment.

Brianna heard Logan splashing in the bath, engaged in an imaginary game typical of a 7-year-old. She shook her head and smiled, anticipating that water and bubbles would be scattered across the floor; the boy appeared quite at ease at that moment. Neither relaxing nor calming; still agitated and energetic.

Returned to retrieve appropriate clothing for him. He would not desire to wear pyjamas or retreat to bed at this hour; however, she sensed the allure of the spacious bed for herself and Layla, recognising that it was not solely her fatigue that was evident. Layla felt utterly fatigued. They were still recuperating from the blood loss. Although she could no longer sense Layla’s healing, this may explain why her wolf was exceedingly fatigued.

Seized the opportunity while Logan was bathing to examine her injuries. Although she did not observe any extensive, unsightly scars, she still had staples in one arm and along her side. They were rendered superfluous, extracted with a brief, acute sensation accompanying each removal, subsequently discarded.

There were several fine scars, thin and white, likely having healed independently prior to Layla’s awakening. Before departing Toronto, she speculated that Luca had effectively minimised her scars, although she questioned whether this was his intention. It was probably a hasty endeavour to staunch the bleeding and vacate vampire territory.

There was little she could do regarding them. What was done is irrevocable; she had no desire to engage in conflict and had conveyed this to that foolish woman, directing her gaze to the neck where she had been nourished. A brutal bite caused her to shudder as she remembered the sensation of those fangs penetrating her to consume her, an experience she never wished to endure again.
