Dr. Smith?”
“Joanna,” Sophia smiled and asked, “Still working so late?”
“There’s an important bidding project coming up. Everyone involved is swamped. And as for Mr. Scott, well, he’s a total workaholic!”
Sophia chuckled, her gaze drifting to the closed door of the CEO’s office.
From what she remembered, Scott Livinus often worked overtime. Even late at night, whenever she passed his room, he was always immersed in work.
Felix happened to step out and, upon seeing her, froze for a moment before smiling. “Dr. Smith, you’re here?”
Sophia greeted him warmly.
Felix quickly entered the office and saw Scott Livinus massaging his temples. Concerned, he asked, “Mr. Scott, is your headache acting up again?”
Scott Livinus shook his head. Ever since she performed acupuncture on him, his condition hadn’t flared up.
Laughter echoed from the hallway. Joanna seemed to be talking to someone, her carefree laugh carrying all the way to the office—something that rarely happened.
“Who is Joanna chatting with?” Scott Livinus asked nonchalantly.
“Oh, Dr. Smith is here!”
Scott Livinus paused, not looking up. “Oh? Why is she here?”
“It seems she came to return a food container. Earlier, I overheard Joanna asking Dr. Smith about her wellness routines. Judging by Joanna’s laughter, Dr. Smith’s answer must’ve been hilarious.”
Scott Livinus thought of Sophia as a wellness enthusiast and could guess what might have sparked such amusement.
His lips curled into a faint smile, amused.
Suddenly, Scott Livinus tossed aside the document he had been reading. “Alright! Let’s go with this plan.”
He stood up and began putting on his jacket.
Felix froze in disbelief. “Where are you going?”
“Heading home for the night!”
Strictly speaking, that place wasn’t truly his home. But recently, for reasons he couldn’t explain, he found himself wanting to return there more and more.
“Really?” Felix couldn’t hide his excitement.
He had expected to be working until midnight. Who would’ve thought they’d finish up by eight?
It seemed Dr. Smith’s charm was unparalleled! Felix made a mental note to invite her more often.
Sophia was about to press the elevator button when a man’s hand reached over and pressed for the basement level.
There weren’t many men on this floor.
A faint scent of herbal medicine wafted over, unmistakably his.
Sophia turned, and sure enough, Scott Livinus was standing behind her.
It seemed he had just had his hair trimmed—shorter than usual—but it made him look fresher and a few years younger.
“I heard from Joanna that you’d be working late tonight,” Sophia said.
Scott Livinus raised an eyebrow. “Are you keeping tabs on my schedule?”
“No!” Sophia quickly clarified. “Joanna mentioned it. How come you’re done so early?”
“The breeze is gentle, and the weather’s perfect. A night like this isn’t meant for overtime, don’t you think?”
Sophia frowned slightly. How would she know what kind of night it was?
They entered the elevator together.
The Scott Enterprise elevators descended quickly, dropping twenty floors in mere moments. Yet the ride was smooth and steady, with no jolts at all.
The elevator stopped unexpectedly on the third floor.
Sophia froze, quickly pressing the buttons, but none of them responded.
“What’s going on? Don’t tell me your company’s elevators are this bad!”
Sophia had a natural fear of elevators, especially in high-rise buildings. The thought of a malfunction was nerve-wracking. Though they were already near the ground floor, it still made her uneasy.
“I doubt it. After all, I pay a hefty amount every month for elevator maintenance!”
Sophia was about to reply when the elevator suddenly dropped.
Losing her balance, she nearly fell—only to be caught by a strong arm.
Looking up, she found herself close to Scott Livinus, their bodies almost pressed together.
