“Oh? You’re saying your father called you to discuss amending his will?”
“Yes! Dad said he misjudged Livinus. He never expected him to be that kind of person. He said the Scott Corporation couldn’t fall into the hands of such a person, so he called me back to discuss countermeasures. How could I have known this would happen to him?”
The old lady stared at him with an unreadable expression. After a long pause, she waved her hand and said:
“All of you, leave! I don’t want to see you!”
“Mom, you…”
Andrea pulled Richard away and led him out.
Since their son, Henry, had grown up, the two had rarely met. Even when they did, Richard would rush off to be with Emily. Now that he had a new lover, he was no longer as interested in Emily. At the same time, he was busier than ever. He hadn’t sat down for a meal with Andrea in a long time, nor had they had a proper conversation.
“Mom obviously doesn’t believe you. This matter can’t be rushed.”
Richard remained silent, his eyes filled with vigilance as he stared at Andrea. In this world, any secret known by a second person was no longer a secret. Even if that person was Andrea, he couldn’t fully trust her.
“Why are you helping me?”
The two had already torn each other apart during their divorce dispute.
Andrea sneered, “You think I want to help you? In the end, it’s all for Henry. If you fall, Henry’s future is doomed! Right now, the Brown family is pressuring him to get married. Without a solid foundation, how could they possibly let their daughter marry him? Henry is your son. At his age, without a career or a proper home, and with Olivia about to give birth, both he and your future grandson need you.”
Richard’s expression softened slightly. Children were always a woman’s weakness. As long as Henry was around, he wasn’t afraid Andrea would expose him. Richard said:
“I understand. Don’t worry. If I gain any benefits, I’ll make sure Henry gets a share. He is my son—who else would I leave it to?”
Speaking of Olivia, that very night, she went into labor. She was already overdue, but since she had no work obligations, she wasn’t in a hurry. She had been staying in the hospital, waiting for labor to start. Finally, the day had come.
Andrea had previously consulted someone who told her that if the baby was born at exactly 3 PM that day, it would bring great fortune to the entire family. Not only would the baby bring prosperity to the parents, but also to the grandparents. Because of this, Olivia had been praying for the baby to wait until the appointed time.
The baby cooperated. Olivia felt no contractions until that exact moment. Right at the appointed hour, she called the doctor to deliver the baby via C-section.
However, it was only after giving birth that she learned the old man had been hospitalized.
Upon hearing the news of Olivia’s delivery, Andrea and Richard rushed to the hospital. When they arrived at the ward, the doctor was carrying the newborn out.
Andrea exclaimed happily, “Doctor, this is my grandson, right? Oh my, look at that chubby little face! So round and red! He’s definitely going to be a handsome boy in the future!”
Richard was also overjoyed when he saw the baby. “This is my first grandson! Olivia did well. I’ll make sure to find something nice for her as a reward for giving us a big, healthy grandson.”
The two of them stared at the baby, overwhelmed with joy.
The child had a round face and looked adorable, appearing much more beautiful than other newborns. Her lips were soft and pink, making her look almost like a girl. Her delicate features made her incredibly endearing. Andrea felt her heart melt. Seeing that Richard also liked the baby, carefully holding her, she finally relaxed a little. Fortunately, Richard was pleased with the grandchild, which gave her some leverage. Looking at it this way, Olivia had truly done something meritorious.
The nurse hesitated, but before she could speak, Andrea carried the baby into the ward with delight.
“Olivia, you’ve worked so hard! Look at the wonderful chubby grandson you’ve given our family! Just look at him—so handsome! Your father-in-law was just saying that you’re our family’s hero. For your great contribution, he wants to reward you! He’s going to give you money to buy a new sports car. Your current one must be at least a year or two old, right? It’s time for an upgrade! You can use the money to buy whatever car you like!”
Olivia’s face turned ashen. She wanted to say something but couldn’t bring herself to. Beside her, Olivia’s mother wiped her eyes, her face red and swollen from crying.
Andrea finally sensed something was wrong. “What’s going on?”
The nurse, who had followed them in, spoke up, “I’ve been trying to say something, but I never got the chance. Your family didn’t have a grandson. It’s a granddaughter. Can’t you tell? Look at her little pink face and small lips—this is clearly a baby girl!”
Andrea thought she had misheard. But when she unwrapped the baby’s blanket and saw for herself, her expression instantly crumbled.
Richard hadn’t expected this either. The couple’s faces darkened, and they walked out of the room.
“What’s going on? Weren’t we told it was a grandson?” Richard grumbled.
Andrea turned to the nurse. “Nurse, my daughter-in-law had multiple check-ups, and every time they said it was a boy. How did it suddenly turn into a girl?”
The nurse, noticing their expressions, immediately understood that they clearly favored boys over girls. She explained,
