She, likewise, had not encountered her Fated Mate in the past decade; none of them had, which rendered their small triangle quite peculiar. The sole issue he faced with the upcoming full moon was that his mother had already arranged a mating ball for that date. Five additional packs would occupy his territory at moonset.
Caelan massaged his temples, occasionally wishing he were an only child. However, his parents chose to have an entire litter. Caelan had five younger sisters, three of whom were triplets that had recently turned 18; this ball was organised in their honour.
In her effort to locate suitable Mates for them, she had exclusively invited packs with un-mated Alphas. The woman was attempting to provoke him. He could attest to it. Caelan had not anticipated Daisy’s inclusion in the pack for it. He had not opposed it at the time, aware that it would be the inaugural mating ball he conducted as the new Alpha of the pack.
His mother presently retains the Luna position of the pack until he assumes his own. He surmised that she had anticipated his announcement of Lydia during his swearing-in or imminently thereafter. However, he had not. It would not be.
He was probably required to locate Lydia and assertively reprimand her. Project her ominous aura towards him in such a manner. She was not even a member of this pack. Indeed, she had lived here for the past two years, in his bed, yet she remained unrecognised as a pack member, which greatly irritated her father, as Caelan had not yet claimed her.
An alliance existed between her father’s pack and his. Because she lived here, but he had not arrived. She had pursued him to this location. Caelan had not invited her to attend. Her father, Alpha Alfred of the Red Lagoon Pack, was not particularly impressed. She was not the successor of his pack, yet she remained his daughter.
The man had a son poised to succeed him when he deemed it appropriate, who was not significantly younger than Caelan, if memory served him right. Lydia, the man’s second youngest child, had two older brothers. Unless both brothers perished, she would likely be betrothed to another pack’s Alpha or a ranked member, given her status as an Alpha-blooded she-wolf.
Caelan compelled her to attend each mating ball. If she discovered her destined Mate, he would wish her well and gently encourage her towards him. He would not prevent her departure and he doubted she would remain if her divinely bestowed Mate arrived. Caelan was unwilling to engage in a confrontation with another Alpha male or a Ranked member of a different pack over a woman.
He appreciated her compliance and her consistent acquiescence. However, that was not his sole desire. He desired additional aspirations for himself. He simply could not allow himself to have them. He would never permit himself the minor pleasures he desired that could potentially bring him happiness. He possessed no entitlement to happiness. He evaded it, refrained from indulgence, and would persist in this behaviour.
Joe, please escort Daisy around the area and identify a suitable location for her art studio.
“Certainly, Caelan.” Do you have a specific location in mind for it?”
“Allow her to select a location.”
Are you certain? She may select a location that is distant!’
Caelan sighed; he presumed the woman would suffice. “In the presence of the pack-house, then, I suppose.”
“Very well, Caelan.”
“Thank you, Joe.”
“Please, temper your agitation.”
‘Mm…’ Caelan severed the connection to his Beta, a task more challenging than anticipated.
Caelan redirected his attention to his work, as he now had one fewer concern for the day. She would be secure with Mason and content as well.
Daisy’s Perspective
Mason descended onto her bed beside her and smiled directly at her. Daisy arched an eyebrow at him in inquiry; it had not been long since Caelan had pulled her into this room. He may have been present to assess her condition. “What?”“She enquired of him.” She turned onto her side and gazed directly at him.
“Guess who has been instructed to spend the remainder of the afternoon with you?”He was smiling at her; it was evidently him.
“I am uncertain,” she smiled at him. “The grim reaper, if it originates from Caelan,” she scoffed.
Mason enquired, “What actions did you take to provoke his anger, Daisy?”“He inquired.”
“Oh, you know, to exist,” she chuckled lightly. “It appears that my existence suffices.”
“Indeed!”He appeared somewhat perplexed, stating, “That is not the case, at least not today.” What actions did you undertake?”
I merely sought a residence’, Mason sighed, sitting up and gazing down at her. “You visited the unoccupied flat, did you not?”
“Indeed, why is this of such significance to him, Mason? I am un-mated,” she reminded him.
“He is merely a cantankerous individual.”
“It has always been Mason; I observe that nothing has altered.”
