The Alpha’s Secret Mate – Chapter 44

Perpetrator

The elderly man replied with a smile, “It is about time.”

“We will accompany my new friend, Molly.” Understood?”The elderly man remarked as the masked individual endeavoured to unlock his cell.”

The masked man glanced at me; I could only discern the darkness of his eyes, which were unfamiliar. I experienced an unusual sensation emanating from him; however, I did not perceive him as a threat. Nonetheless, he appeared anxious and eager to depart swiftly.

“I am still attempting to devise a method to extricate you from this location without detection,” the masked man stated, averting his gaze from me.

I heard the cell door latch, and the elderly man emerged.

“You can also determine how to extricate her,” the old man remarked with a cunning grin.

“I have only a few minutes before they discover my presence,” the masked man stated. “The sedative will dissipate rapidly.”

He is likely referring to the sedative he administered to the guards to facilitate his clandestine entry here.

“It is acceptable, truly,” I conveyed to them. “I ought not to go anywhere regardless.” Not amidst the current events. My absence will be observed, exacerbating the situation.

The elderly man scowled; sorrow briefly clouded his expression.

“You are a resilient woman, Molly,” the elderly man remarked.

The masked man observed me and tilted his head to the side.

“Indeed, I am familiar with you,” he remarked, scrutinising my visage. “You are the individual who poisoned Jayce’s partner.”

I scowled and negated with a shake of my head.

“I did not poison anyone,” I asserted, striving to maintain a steadfast demeanour.

“She was unjustly incarcerated,” the elderly man asserted, advocating for me. “Much like I was.”

I was curious about the charges that led to his imprisonment in the king’s dungeon and the responsibilities he held within the palace. However, time was limited; the masked man appeared anxious to depart, and I understood his urgency.

“If that is indeed the case, Jayce will ascertain the truth,” remarked the masked man with a shrug. “I understand he is conducting the trial tomorrow.”

I was unable to refrain from rolling my eyes.

“It is unlikely he will comprehend anything,” I murmured. “He despises me.”

I perceived the masked man laughing softly.

“His feelings for you are irrelevant,” he stated. “He would never allow an innocent individual to be unjustly punished.”

The elderly man concurred, stating, “Jayce may be ostentatious, yet he is just.” If anyone can identify the true perpetrator, it will be him.

Do you genuinely believe that Prince Jayce would assist me?”I enquired, a trace of hope evident in my tone.”

They exchanged glances before directing their attention back to me.

The masked man stated, “I believe Jayce will guarantee that genuine justice is administered, provided you are indeed innocent.” I would not be overly concerned about it.

I experienced a slight surge of relief; it was reassuring to know that they had confidence in Jayce’s ability to prevent my unjust punishment. Nevertheless, I remained somewhat apprehensive.

“Jack stated he would return,” I whispered. “He is attempting to coerce me into confessing to something dreadful.”

The masked man muttered, “Jack is a jerk.”

The elderly man snorted, attempting to suppress his laughter.

“You should have observed the unfortunate girl earlier,” the old man remarked. “I doubt there was a bone that remained unbroken.”

“Did you donate your blood to her?””The masked individual enquired.”

The elderly gentleman acquiesced with a nod.

“Perhaps you should provide her with additional supplies, in the event that she requires them later,” the masked man proposed as he approached the front of the prison. He was searching through the drawers positioned against the wall until he discovered a small mason jar.

The elderly man concurred, “That is a commendable idea.”

He returned to his cell and seized the same rock; I observed that his hand had fully healed from the earlier laceration.

He gradually filled the jar with his blood before sealing it and handing it to me through the bars.

“Conceal this in a location where he cannot observe it,” he instructed, gesturing towards the bed in the corner of the cell.

I acquiesced and concealed the jar beneath the pillow.

“As I previously stated,” the masked man remarked upon my return from concealing the blood, “the trial is scheduled for tomorrow; if you are indeed innocent, Jayce will uncover the truth and identify the actual perpetrator.” Your sole task is to endure the night.

I exhaled, experiencing relief once more.

They appeared optimistic that Jayce would administer justice and ascertain the identity of Vera’s murderer. If these two unfamiliar individuals possess such confidence in Jayce, then I too can trust him. Most importantly, I relied on Ashton and Abel to assist in establishing my innocence.

Abel indicated that they were in the process of collecting evidence and identifying the actual perpetrator. I had to trust that they would succeed, allowing me to escape from this place.

"Alpha Prince, stop this madness! Can’t you see all I want is to leave this place, to be free of these suffocating walls and your overbearing presence? Do you think that just because fate bound us as mates, it gives you the right to claim dominion over me and this palace? You’re mistaken—horribly mistaken. You may call yourself a Prince, but your crown means nothing here. This is my domain, and the only place you’ll ever remain is beneath me, forever shackled by your arrogance and blinded by your pride."
