Dr. Sophia – Chapter 90

Point

As Sophia was brought into an office, she heard Professor Michael saying:

“The prescription was something Miss Olivia insisted Sophia write. I reviewed it myself, so if there’s any blame, I’ll take responsibility.”

“Professor Michael, Miss Olivia has stated that one should take responsibility for their own actions. She claims Sophia’s prescription was problematic. Sophia is just an intern; let’s suspend her position to give Miss Olivia an answer.”

Professor Michael frowned. “Is that Miss Olivia’s request? It seems to me she’s been targeting Sophia from the start.”

“Targeting her? Your student Sophia isn’t anyone special. Do you think a prominent celebrity would bother targeting her? I’ll tell you, after the recent negative media coverage on hospital disputes, the public’s trust in us is already low. We can’t afford any more bad press. This Sophia is only an intern, so let’s have her suspend her internship and take time to reflect on her mistakes. This will also satisfy Miss Olivia. Professor Michael, there’s no need to say more—this is decided.”

As Sophia entered, she saw Olivia and her assistant sitting inside.

Wearing sunglasses, Olivia looked up at her with a smug, provocative smile.

Her satisfaction was evident—full of malice, as if she was convinced Sophia couldn’t do anything to her.

Through her sunglasses, Olivia’s eyes glinted with arrogance. She had expected to see panic in Sophia’s gaze, but Sophia merely smiled back, an authentic, amused smile that reached her eyes. It left Olivia with a sense of unease.

“Miss Olivia, the intern is here. Since you mentioned that after taking the medicine, you felt abdominal pain, potentially harming your unborn child, it would be best to do a thorough examination here at our hospital,” Sophia suggested with a smirk.

Olivia scoffed, knowing that she couldn’t go through with an exam. With her eyes set on the Scott family fortune, there was no way she would risk the baby.

Sure enough, Olivia shook her head. “No need! More tests mean more radiation, which is bad for the fetus. I just want the hospital to take responsibility by dealing with this intern.”

The director smiled obsequiously, “Would suspending her internship satisfy you?”

“Suspending… Director, I think it would be best to dismiss her! Who would hire a doctor like her in the future?” Olivia sneered.

“Miss Olivia, your baby is unharmed—it’s just abdominal discomfort. Dismissal seems a bit much.”

“Too much? Do we have to wait until I lose the baby to hold her accountable?” Olivia crossed her arms, her tone icy. “Director, it’s ultimately up to you. If you don’t fire Sophia, don’t blame me for taking this to the media. Imagine the impact on your hospital’s reputation…”

The director broke into a cold sweat, fully aware of how much trouble this could stir up.

Not only would the public lose faith in the hospital, but even Olivia’s modest fan base could turn it upside down. Despite her limited fame, celebrities, no matter their size, have fans, and he couldn’t afford the fallout from a public figure.

After much consideration, the director gritted his teeth and said, “Sophia, your internship is terminated! Gather your belongings; you don’t need to come back to the hospital.”

Sophia’s expression remained calm, but Professor Michael grew anxious. “Director, this punishment is too harsh! I’ve already stated that I bear some responsibility!”

“Enough, Professor Michael! This is what Miss Olivia wants. She’s just an intern—why take responsibility for her? If this gets out of hand, no one benefits!” He turned to Olivia with a placating smile. “Miss Olivia is merciful not to pursue legal action. She wouldn’t trouble an intern, would she?”

Olivia smirked. “Director, you’re absolutely right. Just look at her—what about her is worth my attention?”

The director nodded in agreement.

The atmosphere in the room was harmonious, and with just a few words, they had decided Sophia’s fate.

Yet throughout it all, Sophia’s expression remained indifferent.

Once everyone had left, Olivia approached Sophia with a smug look.

“Miss Sophia, I’m sorry for the inconvenience. Losing your internship must be hard, but perhaps it’s time to handle your divorce. A hospital like this really isn’t for you. You don’t have what it takes to treat patients,” Olivia sneered.

Sophia wasn’t angered; instead, she gave an enigmatic smile that made Olivia’s face falter.

“What are you smiling at?” Olivia frowned, unsettled.

“I’m smiling…” Sophia leaned close to Olivia’s ear, whispering, “because you’re so foolish. Your scheme was obvious to anyone, yet you thought I’d fall into it so easily?”

Olivia, slightly shorter than Sophia, glared up at her. “What do you mean?”

“Isn’t it clear? Olivia, do you really think you could set me up if I hadn’t given you the chance?” Sophia’s expression turned colder. “I should thank you. I wanted a break from work anyway to deal with my lousy husband and his shameless mistress. Such things take time, after all, and now, thanks to you, I have all the time I need to make sure they pay for what they’ve done. You’ve done me a favor, giving me a reason to leave the hospital so I can focus on those rats.”

“You…”

“Oh, and one more thing!” Sophia chuckled mockingly. “As for the hospital—you think I care? If I wanted to return, they’d probably welcome me back with open arms.”

Olivia’s smile faded. “You’re full of it! Who do you think you are? Bringing you back? Keep dreaming!”

“We’ll see about that!” Sophia scoffed, her gaze turning icy. “And though I’m grateful for your help, let’s not forget to return the favor. Olivia, I owe you a generous gift in return. Wait for it!”

With that, Sophia closed the door with a sly smile, mouthing a silent “Thank you” as she left.

Olivia fumed, her stomach churning with anger.

She stomped out of the hospital, cursing, “What a fool! Let’s see how long she stays smug!”

Her assistant glanced at her frustrated expression, sighing.

“Sis, I told you not to go overboard. If the media finds out you came here to provoke his ex-wife, they’ll make a huge story out of it. Besides, Sophia has a point—now that you got her fired, she’ll be watching you constantly. Who knows what she might do?”
