Caelan had genuinely believed this throughout his entire life. Daisy was destined to be Mason’s Mate, the Mate of his Beta. Until that fateful day, he had awakened in the hotel room, marked and mated to her, with no recollection of how it occurred; to this day, he still lacked any memory of how he arrived there or of the marking and mating process. Exactly how she appeared prior to his hasty departure from the room.
Daisy had finally exited the office and his line of sight, evidently elated to be with Mason. It appeared that nothing had altered between them. She had departed, leaving them both at the pack gates merely six hours prior to her turning 18, coinciding with a full moon that year. Neither he nor Mason was certain if she was his Mate. Caelan harboured lingering suspicions. Mason was unmated, as was Caelan.
He anticipated that the forthcoming full moon would reveal all necessary information. I preferred not to contemplate it, to be frank. He was uncertain about his feelings and reactions regarding it. She had been his Mate for approximately two years, and he was not anticipating it with enthusiasm. It was merely a few days away, in fact.
Lydia was extracted from the office and taken back to their bedroom, where she raised an eyebrow at him and enquired, “I want to; do you?”“he asserted unequivocally.”
“Certainly, unlike you…”
“Simply disrobe,” he interrupted, removing his garments as soon as he entered their chamber. Dragged her onto the bed. “You, in a superior position.” “Pursue it,” he had advised her.
Lydia smiled directly at him, “Sweet.”
It was rare for her to be in a dominant position, his hands positioned on her thighs as she moved rhythmically, achieving her own pleasure. He reclined and observed, yet his thoughts drifted elsewhere. Upon her return, as she reclined upon him, he comprehended that all was concluded; he had not even approached his objective.
“What is troubling you, Caelan?”“She enquired of him.”
“Nothing,” he sighed, rolling her off him.
“Do you want me to flip over?””
“No, it is acceptable.” He exited the bed and proceeded to the shower. She would not be able to resolve him; it was that straightforward. There was only one task, and he would undertake it personally. Despite his self-loathing, he proceeded with the action.
Daisy’s Perspective
It was delightful to reunite with all her former friends. Numerous embraces and exclamations of “oh my goddess, you’re back” revealed that the majority of them had been paired off. It is not unexpected that they led complete lives, unlike her, who was often isolated from other wolves and the human world.
The majority were mothers, yet all were pleased to dine out with her. A night away from the children, likely a rare occurrence, appeared to be beneficial. What began as dinner rapidly transformed into a drinking session, leading to laughter and enjoyment among all present. Discussing past and present experiences. Merely updating myself on all that she and they had been engaged in.
She had missed them; none enquired about the events between her and Caelan. They either wished to avoid upsetting her or had surmised the situation. She departed from him. She was unaware of what he had communicated to his parents or the pack. Had never bothered to enquire.
Some were aware that she and Caelan had a contentious relationship. Her closest friend, Ella, was aware that she never truly did, and the entire pack recognised Caelan’s discontent; it was evident to all within the pack. No one envied her status as his Mate, of that she was certain.
“Where is Daisy?”Mason’s voice resonated through the Mind-Link.
“We are having dinner and drinks at the Tavern,” she replied. Hearing his voice within her thoughts was pleasant.
I am en route to meet you.
Mason arrived, and her friends were entirely unsurprised by his presence. He effortlessly greeted them, saying “Beta.” They all responded with smiles, and he replied, “Ladies,” his tone smooth and charming, eliciting giggles as he embraced Daisy in front of everyone.
They chose to walk to Thiago’s, a distance of approximately 20 minutes. The music was already playing “Shots,” she shouted above the noise. Many of her acquaintances were astonished by this. She had been prohibited from consuming alcohol prior to her departure, being underage, and Caelan would likely have reacted furiously had she returned intoxicated; at least, that was her assumption, as she had never observed him drinking, either.
Three wolfen-loaded shots later, they were all on the dance floor. Mason, however, was leaning against a wall, observing while consuming a beer. She detested beer. She summoned him to the dance floor. He remained immobile, merely shaking his head and standing there as a ‘stickler.’ She communicated with him through the mind-link.
He merely smiled at her and elevated an eyebrow. She was jostled several times, but on this occasion, the man who collided with her placed both hands on her hips as if to stabilise her. She was aware that his hands remained and did not release their grip. “I apologize… Would you care to dance with me?” he smiled at her, his brown eyes shimmering.
“Step aside.” Mason abruptly appeared beside her.
Daisy was forcibly removed from the man’s grasp. She intended to remove his hands regardless.
“I apologise, Joe; I was unaware that she was present with you.”
“It is Beta, to you; proceed.” He snarled directly at the man, who lowered his head and retreated swiftly, offering further apologies.
Daisy gazed up at him with a questioning expression, while he continued to fixate on the unmated wolf. She chuckled, “Merely dancing, Mason.”
“That wolf is thievish,” he remarked, still feeling subordinate to Daisy.
“Please, Mason, relax.” “Most of us are unattached here, so try to unwind a bit…you might even form a connection yourself if you relax and behave amiably,” she jested.
MASON abruptly frowned at her, then she was removed from the dance floor and seated on a bar stool. “Are you seeking a s****l encounter, Daisy?””
Daisy emitted a snort. “Why now, Mason? Are you intrigued?”
