The Alpha’s Second Chance – Chapter 16

Challenge

She and Layla had Logan as their motivation for existence; he was their impetus for self-care and their singular source of joy. The sole aspect they regarded as a boon from the moon goddess, albeit occasionally perceived as a curse, merely added to their suffering. His birthplace indicated that he was a rogue, akin to them.

She sighed, perplexed by their behaviour; neither she nor Layla comprehended the absence of scent. It was simply the reality they had to accept. She would likely remain in the human world for an extended period, although she had yet to devise a method for doing so undetected. At merely 28 years of age, she had ceased to age, likely maintaining her current appearance for an additional 30 to 40 years, a benefit of being an otherworldly entity endowed with healing powers. May be 200 years old yet appear to be in their forties to humans.

Brianna’s Perspective

Brianna turned upon hearing Logan approach from his room, still clad in his pyjamas; she had heard his alarm sound at 8 o’clock. The boy was already smiling, eager for the day on the slopes; he was a joyful child. She was exceedingly pleased by that. She smiled at him and informed him that breakfast would arrive shortly.

He smiled directly at her, “Then to the slopes.”

“Indeed, once the runs and lifts are operational.” She reciprocated with a smile, “and the half pipe.”

I would like you to take numerous photographs as well. My friends doubt my ability to perform on the halfpipe already.

“Understood, numerous photographs it shall be.” She affirmed. He doubted that his friends believed him. He possessed an innate aptitude for all domains of athletics. He probably desired photographs for personal use; he exhibited a tendency towards ostentation, which was likely inherent to his character, yet he was not a bully. Similar to certain young alpha wolves, their desire for dominance and control superseded all other considerations, including their treatment of fellow pack members.

Over the past few months, she had frequently observed him conversing with himself in front of his bedroom mirror, affirming his aspirations to become exceptionally large and strong, envisioning himself as a highly fit athlete eager to enter high school and outperform his slower peers in track and field. He was already convinced he would possess exceptional strength and speed, enabling him to outpace everyone. Intended to become one of the esteemed boys who was acquainted with all and admired by many.

Unbeknownst to him, he was already the favoured individual, as his extensive network of friends was a result of the allure he possessed and the influence inherent in his lineage. Regarding track and field, as he matured, she would promote his participation, as it would be beneficial for him to expend his surplus energy.

Once he acquired his wolf, he would need to exercise considerable restraint, as he only surpassed the humans by a few seconds. His wolf would likely resist this constraint, and she could only envision how large and swift he would become, potentially altering his appearance dramatically, growing significantly in size and strength overnight. This transformation would undoubtedly astonish his friends. Fortunately, the boy was born during the summer, thus avoiding a conflict with school.

She would likely need to enrol him in numerous sports to accommodate his desire for hunting and chasing activities. She anticipated that swimming, rock climbing, and running would serve as effective distractions for him, possibly supplemented by martial arts training. However, if he lacked her scent, he would be perfectly acceptable. No entity would detect, confront, or assail him. However, if he exhibited the scent of a wolf, particularly one with alpha lineage, it could lead him into confrontations, and she would require him to possess the ability to defend himself.

Brianna believed she could train him; she possessed combat skills, having trained rigorously since the age of ten to honour her deceased parents. Despite their absence, she had trained as a junior without a wolf, often completing the agility course alone during sleepless nights or periods of sadness and solitude. She would run around the pack until utterly fatigued, resting on the ground until she regained her strength.

Subsequently, she enlisted in the junior warriors alongside wolves the day after ensuring Layla received comprehensive hand-to-hand training. Thereafter, she and Layla practiced relentlessly, enhancing their skills in her backyard and the woods, consistently utilising the agility course, even training in torrential rain. No one had interfered with them, no one had hindered them, and likely no one was even aware of it.

She and Layla were progressing towards becoming high-ranked warriors, potentially surpassing their parents and achieving the elite warrior rank, a goal she aspired to attain. It likely would be now if her life had not been so excruciatingly painful.

They possessed a home gym that occupied half of her double garage. She utilised the treadmill daily, running each morning at sunrise until she needed to prepare for work, and occasionally in the evening for extended periods, seeking to evade her own thoughts and exerting herself intensely on those nights.

She had already acquired a treadmill for Logan, positioned adjacent to hers. The boy enjoyed running, which did not surprise her, although he only ran every other day. Brianna and Layla found Logan’s demeanour regarding running beside her quite entertaining. In recent months, he had become increasingly competitive and consistently sought to surpass her. He possessed no hope in the absence of his wolf, although he remained unaware of this fact. Once he acquired his wolf, he was likely to surpass her effortlessly, given his Alpha lineage.

Logan was vexed by her capacity to outpace him effortlessly; typically, on Saturday and Sunday mornings, they would run together either in their neighbourhood or through the wooded area behind their house. He felt exasperated that when he grew fatigued and required respite, she could effortlessly continue and mock him for not being as fit as she was.

He was remarkably fit for a 7-year-old, capable of outpacing all of his human friends over long distances. A few individuals in his school could surpass him. She perceived them as a challenge to him, which he found displeasing; he exerted himself intensely to surpass them and was greatly frustrated by his inability to do so. However, those individuals possessed exceptional track and field talent, likely to become some of the best in the world as they matured. Humans are capable of excelling in running.
