The Alpha’s Second Chance – Chapter 15

Benefit

Consequently, she lacked someone to guide her through the experience, despite having heard others recount their initial transformations. It was reported that the initial transformation would be excruciating and protracted; however, subsequent shifts became progressively less painful, allowing your wolf to emerge at will in under a minute. She had observed it as well.

That day was profoundly liberating for Brianna, and Layla had accompanied her for nearly a year prior, allowing for extensive conversation before her initial shift. While she did not consider this typical, it was pleasant to have companionship.

After relocating, Layla independently roamed the pack’s woods for several hours, pursuing rabbits and other wildlife, excavating burrows, swimming in the pack’s river, rolling in the dirt, and revelling in her newfound autonomy.

Once a joyful wolf, she had succumbed to sadness and pain, reducing both herself and her wolf to mere shadows of their former selves. Layla no longer wished to transform, not even during the full moon when the allure was strongest. When your wolf howled at the moon, expressing gratitude for its existence and acknowledging the moon goddess.

Layla had not experienced that; she had not howled at the moon since turning 18 and identifying her Mate, who did not reciprocate her scent. They believed that the moon goddess had abandoned them for some reason, cursing them. Only the moon goddess herself would comprehend the reasons behind their treatment.

Brianna sighed and re-entered the building as the sun fully ascended in the eastern sky. She prepared a cup of coffee, reasoning that there was no necessity to awaken Logan, as the runs did not commence until after 9, allowing him to sleep in. She perused the room service menu and ordered breakfast for both of them at 8. A substantial breakfast for both, as they would spend the entire day on the slopes, and she was aware that Logan was eager to utilise the half pipe in the afternoon. She would grant him every request.

Logan was the true source of joy in their lives, the sole reason for their perseverance. When Layla informed her of the impending arrival of their child, tears streamed down her face in torrents, embodying both anguish and elation simultaneously. They were unprepared for it. It had merely been one night with Ryder Wood, and they had not been in oestrus; such an occurrence was virtually unprecedented. It was also her inaugural experience. She was utterly astonished by the news.

However, that news prompted her to rise from her hotel bed, where she and Layla had languished in sorrow for several weeks, enabling them to eat adequately for the first time in weeks and regain their health. Additionally, her rejection alleviated any lingering feelings of betrayal from him.

Logan was born six months after they departed from the pack, in a human hospital. The doctors suspected she had misrepresented her gestational age, a conversation she overheard later that night due to her heightened wolfen hearing, as he was fully developed rather than premature as expected.

She experienced intense anxiety upon entering labour, believing it was premature for her baby to be born. She hurried to the hospital, where the labour proved arduous and lasted 18 hours. Exhausted by the ordeal, she felt relief that it had concluded. Although pain medication was offered, she declined all options, unwilling to jeopardise her child’s well-being.

Upon her discharge from the hospital, she investigated the wolfen world records online. Accessing this information was straightforward for a wolf; one merely needed to input their pack and alpha’s name. Although she had been a rogue at that time, she possessed the requisite information. Humans, lacking comprehension of the system, would be unable to access it, as it was effectively password protected.

She had read that Alpha-blooded pups typically arrive early, between 5 and 7 months, with some even earlier, contingent upon the bloodline and the mother’s lineage. Logan was born punctually, as anticipated within any pack. The article indicated that labour may be challenging based on the size of the pup and the mother’s lineage. She provided extensive explanations.

Logan had never fallen ill, not a single time. Characteristic of a wolfen offspring. Layla had not healed any ailments, as was common among most wolves. Instances of wolves contracting human diseases were infrequent; although rogues were deemed disease-ridden, they were not predominantly so. Their appearance and odour were the sole reasons.

Some of their wounds remained perpetually unhealed, perpetually exposed and infested with flies; they appeared ill, while in truth, most had merely succumbed to madness, losing the capacity to care for and heal themselves. The dishevelled creatures observed in the wilderness appeared utterly defeated, lacking any genuine desire for survival. Their instincts only activated during confrontations; however, once the altercation concluded, they resumed their aimless wandering.

They perpetually desired companionship but struggled to comprehend its true meaning; their instinctual urge to mate with any female contributed to this longing, which is why female rogues often fared poorly, as males’ cravings were triggered irrespective of the absence of a true mate.

Some rogues could thrive effectively, as she had done. Discovered a purpose for existence, either by retreating into nature or integrating into society while avoiding conflict, they sought human companionship to fulfil their social needs, forming attachments with individuals unaware of their non-human identity.

Although some were exceedingly cruel and malevolent beings that hunted and preyed upon the weak and vulnerable, novices who were newly independent could not adequately defend themselves or lacked proper training. Abducted, mistreated, and tortured them before trafficking them to the wolfen black market upon completion of their exploitation.

There existed rogue packs that posed significant danger; they attacked other packs indiscriminately and established their own hierarchy, appointing a leader. Their Alpha formed an Alpha Unit and operated with autonomy. She had encountered narratives in which individuals asserted ownership over desolate or forsaken pack territories, endeavouring to re-establish civilisation; occasionally, this endeavour succeeded, while at other times it failed.
