Dr. Sophia – Chapter 60

Prestigious

“Traditional medicine?” Tony hesitated before quickly shaking his head. “We’ve tried that. It didn’t help! Each time they’d say there was hope, and then? Nothing! No results!”

“She’s different,” Scott Livinus said confidently, his tone steady. “It might be worth trying. You’ve faced so many disappointments, one more won’t make a difference.”

Tony and Clara exchanged glances, and finally, Clara nodded and said:

“Alright, we’ll try. If it doesn’t work, maybe it’s time to look for a surrogate abroad.”

“Why a surrogate? Someone else’s child can’t be the same as your own!” Tony chided.

Clara’s eyes filled with tears, but she held them back.

“Brother Scott, where can we find this doctor? Tony and I will visit her tomorrow.”

Scott Livinus kept a straight face as his gaze shifted to Sophia, who was standing nearby, and immediately, everyone’s eyes turned to her.

Nancy suddenly clapped her hands in excitement. “Oh, that’s right! How could I forget? Sophia is an amazing doctor! She’s even better than some of the Country’s top practitioners! She’s the one who cured my sinus issues with just a few acupuncture sessions!”

Suddenly finding herself the center of attention, Sophia seemed to remember her profession, exclaiming, “Oh, yes! I’m a doctor—a traditional doctor!”

When Tony and Clara saw Sophia, they looked visibly surprised. If someone else had introduced her, they might have doubted such a young, beautiful woman’s abilities. After all, most traditional medicine practitioners were in their seventies or eighties. Sophia looked out of place, giving off a sense of discord.

But the person recommending her was Scott Livinus. Who was Scott Livinus? He had always been the leader among them, and everyone was used to taking his advice. Plus, coming from a prestigious medical family, if Scott recommended Sophia, it was clear that she wasn’t as simple as she appeared.

“This girl looks familiar,” Tony murmured in confusion.

“You don’t recognize her? She’s Scott Henry’s wife!” Nancy introduced.

Tony’s gaze shifted back and forth between Scott Livinus and Sophia.

Sophia smiled, then asked all the men except Tony to leave the room. Nancy also left to attend to the guests.

In no time, only three people remained in the room. Sophia placed her fingers on Clara’s pulse, paused, then asked:

“Were you born prematurely?”

Clara was stunned for a moment before exclaiming, “How did you know?”

Clara’s mother had given birth to her prematurely at less than seven months after being severely frightened by a vicious dog.

Medical technology wasn’t advanced back then. Clara was born barely the size of a shoe, and people doubted she would survive. Her mother held her close for over a month, feeding her a few drops of milk each day, and somehow, she pulled through.

Even Tony didn’t know this story. How did Sophia know? Tony was also taken aback.

“You were born prematurely, with underdeveloped organs, making it naturally harder for you to conceive. On top of that, you have a severe kidney deficiency. In traditional medicine, the kidneys are considered the foundation of life, storing essence, which transforms into energy. The kidneys play a crucial role in reproduction. Therefore, your infertility issue should be addressed from this aspect.”

Clara was stunned. Sophia’s explanation was entirely different from what Modern doctors had told her.

Modern medicine had concluded that her fallopian tubes were blocked and her ovulation was irregular, leading to infertility. In other words, the issue lay with her.

“But Dr. Smith, why did the modern doctors say…”

“That it’s caused by polycystic ovaries blocking the fallopian tubes?” Sophia interjected.

Clara paused, words stuck in her throat. Sophia knew everything! Just by feeling her pulse, she had pinpointed all her diagnoses from the past few years. How was that possible? Weren’t people saying that Scott Henry’s wife wasn’t particularly capable? Who was spreading such baseless rumors?

“Yes.”

“That’s the diagnosis from modern medicine. It’s not necessarily wrong, but traditional medicine tends to address the root cause. In your case, it lies in the kidneys.”

“So, what should I do?”

Sophia began prescribing while asking, “Do you often experience lower back pain, have excessive discharge, and notice a darker color in your menstrual blood?”

“Yes!”

“And do you often have painful periods, feel weighed down and fatigued even after long sleep?”

“Right!” Clara nodded eagerly.

“And you sometimes feel inexplicable fear and unease?”

“Exactly!” By now, Clara was treating Sophia as a miracle doctor. She had seen countless doctors, including some highly respected ones, yet none of them had so comprehensively described her symptoms.

Sophia, appearing calm and unbothered, discussed her condition as if it were a mere cold, making it seem less daunting.

Patients often feel anxious during consultations, and the doctor’s attitude can subtly influence them. Sophia’s calm confidence reassured Clara, making her believe in the treatment’s efficacy.

Sophia nodded, continuing to write on the paper, then said:

“We’ll treat this from two angles. First, supplement the kidneys! A blend of red ginseng, Lycopus lucidus, centipede, and angelica root should be ground into a powder and taken daily with warm rice wine for seven days. Second, regulate your menstrual cycle, eliminate blood stasis, and alleviate the coldness in your body.”

Clara nodded repeatedly.

After finishing the prescription, Sophia turned to Tony. Startled, he watched as Sophia took his pulse, then, after checking both wrists, said, “Alright, you also need kidney supplements and a healthier lifestyle. No alcohol, no late nights, and avoid cold seafood. Both of you should stick to the treatment plan and see me for a follow-up in a week.”

The couple exchanged glances, and Clara couldn’t help but ask, “Dr. Smith, after we take these medications, will we be able to conceive?”

Sophia gave her a puzzled look. “Who said this prescription is for infertility?”

“…”

“First, we need to get your body in good shape. When your health is optimal for conceiving, I have a secret formula specifically for infertility, perfect for your body type, which I’ll prescribe for you then.”

“…”

Tony and Clara left, half-convinced and half-skeptical. Even as their friends gathered around them, they were still processing what Sophia had said. It wasn’t so much the treatment itself but Sophia’s calm demeanor that made them feel their issue was minor, not worth all their past distress, and entirely manageable!

Was it really that simple?

Clara shared the details with her friends. Nearby, Chloe chuckled and said, “Don’t worry! When it comes to traditional medicine, Dr. Smith is the only one I trust! She saved me when I was on the brink, so she can definitely handle your issues! Dr. Smith’s approach is like that—she doesn’t believe in serious illnesses. So, relax! You’ll get used to it!”

Reassured by her friend’s words, the couple began to smile again.

By then, the party was halfway through. The men had gone to play cards, while the women mingled with Nancy for social activities.

During the card game, Tony glanced at Sophia and gratefully said to Scott Livinus, “If she really helps us, I’ll have my child call you godfather!”

Scott Livinus smirked. “Sounds good!”

“But isn’t your nephew a bit blind? With such a beautiful and capable wife, he’s still looking for a mistress. I heard that in two years of marriage, he’s never even set foot in the main house, preferring to devote himself to the mistress. Is that really true?” Tony gossiped.
