The Luna and Her Child – Chapter 86

Projects

“They are circulating a photograph of you.”

“How did they obtain an image of me?”She exhales sharply.

“I am unaware, but they possess one.”

“If I appear in my wolf form—”

I interrupted her, “Are you serious?”What on earth?

“Indeed… do they realistically comprehend the appearance of my wolf?” “They are unfamiliar with me,” she attempts to comfort me, yet I sense my patience diminishing.

“You will be my demise, woman,” I lament. “Let us discuss this tomorrow; I am genuinely experiencing a headache,” I concede while massaging my temples.

“Certainly, but you cannot evade this,” she remarks, prompting a groan from me.

I now find myself wishing she were incapable of fighting. Warrior Lunas are theoretically advantageous, particularly when one is not emotionally attached to them. I must contemplate a solution. She will not participate in this battle, even if it necessitates her confinement. She may be displeased with me, yet her safety will be ensured.

“I appreciate your presence this morning, everyone.” I have received information that at dawn tomorrow, Alpha Johnson and his warriors will launch an attack.

I delineate the number of warriors we each possess and the quantity he believes he possesses. All individuals appear satisfied. Celine is positioned next to me, and she is likely to disapprove of my forthcoming statement; however, she will endure it.

“He has a reward established.” $25,000 to anyone who eliminates our Luna.

All individuals are astonished, and silence prevails. They are astonished. The most effective means of causing me pain is to inflict harm upon her. I seek everyone’s perspective as Luna and I hold differing views. She believes she ought to be actively engaged in combat, despite a photograph of her circulating with an accompanying reward. “I believe endangering her, particularly while she is under threat, is imprudent,” I assert with conviction. Upon our gaze intersecting, her eyes are frigidly cold. If appearances were lethal, I would be deceased.

“I request a show of hands; who believes Luna should NOT participate in the fight tomorrow?” I enquire, maintaining a steady tone. I wish to make my position on this matter unequivocally clear.

“Please wait!” They are unaware of my appearance in wolf form, and this situation arose due to a child who is also my progeny. “I ought to be fighting as well,” she counters.

“However, they will be able to ascertain it quite readily.” They would merely seek a female wolf in proximity to the Alpha. I am certain his gaze will be perpetually fixed upon you. “It will be quite evident,” Claire observes.

“I shall not engage in combat near Cohen,” Celine is resorting to desperate measures.

“Raise your hands.” Who believes she ought to engage in combat?“I inquire.”

I survey my surroundings and observe the absence of hands. How can she contest this? I am currently experiencing immense joy that I cannot suppress my smile. Upon observing Celine, I am abruptly apprehensive about maintaining my smile, prompting me to quickly erase it from my visage.

“I express my gratitude to all,” I state.

“Perhaps Luna could join the contingent of warriors assigned to safeguard the packhouse, ensuring the protection of women, elders, and children from any intruders who breach the front lines,” Serena suggests.

Serena, being one of Celine’s closest friends, is naturally seeking a means to satisfy her. Celine seizes the opportunity, recognising that her aspirations of engaging in frontline combat are being thwarted.

I will be absent from Cohen and will assume my wolf form, rendering me unrecognisable. They would not anticipate my presence guarding the packhouse. Raise your hands. “Who believes I am capable of guarding the packhouse?” she enquires, essentially imploring them. It is now divided equally.

Celine promptly asserts, “Satisfactory for my needs.” “I appreciate everyone’s contributions,” she states.

We are both departing with a sense of disappointment despite having achieved minor victories. I suppose that constitutes compromise. I am not pleased with her overseeing the packhouse, yet we significantly outnumber them. I doubt we will have numerous individuals breaching our front lines. I will ensure that I have formidable warriors accompanying her as a precaution.

As everyone prepares for the training class, Celine approaches me and asserts, “Not cool,” while glaring at me.

I concur. Unacceptable. All individuals present concurred with my assessment that it was unsafe. You were not comprehending my words. I needed to take action!I provide a rationale, yet she merely rolls her eyes and departs. I suppose this marks our initial conflict.

Throughout the week, we typically conduct our training, subsequently tidy ourselves, procure a meal in the cafeteria, and Celine assists me for an hour in my office, as she seeks to be informed about all matters pertaining to the pack since her ascension to Luna. She typically assists me with my projects, which I greatly appreciate. Today, for the first time, she is enthusiastic about departing. It is evident that she is displeased with me. I despise it, yet it is worthwhile if it ensures she is not engaged in combat alongside me.
