“Ah?”
“This…”
Vienna’s eyes widened, feeling that her brain was clearly not functioning properly.
After a while, she finally came to her senses: “So, you coming to my house that day wasn’t a coincidence?”
“It was a coincidence,” Jacob smiled: “I didn’t expect it to be so coincidental.”
“So, you intentionally spoke halfway to give me a hint,” Vienna quickly reacted.
“Pretty much.”
Jacob nodded and then said: “Actually, I had no intention of ruining your marriage; I just wanted to give you a hint, after all, Rick is not a good person.”
“As for my relationship with Karen, we parted on good terms, and I don’t want to have any further entanglements with her,” Jacob clarified his stance.
Vienna was silent for a moment, then sincerely said: “Thank you, Mr. Jacob.”
“Rick actually has a criminal record. I endured it for the sake of the child, and this time, you helped me make up my mind!”
Jacob smiled and shook his head: “No one can help you make up your mind about divorce; some people will choose to pretend to be deaf and mute no matter what others say.”
“Just like the saying we often hear, you can never wake up a person pretending to sleep.”
“Some people would rather struggle in the quagmire of marriage than leave, while others decisively cut through the chaos!”
“These are all personal choices!”
Vienna nodded in agreement, but in fact, the seed of divorce had long been planted in her heart; this incident could only be seen as a catalyst.
She looked Jacob up and down and suddenly asked, “Do you have time later?”
“Something up?” Jacob countered.
“Uh, the range hood at home is still a bit problematic, and I was hoping you could help take a look,” Vienna said, feeling somewhat guilty.
“Sure, I have half an hour left in my personal training session.”
“After the class, I’ll be free.”
Jacob didn’t notice Vienna’s expression and readily agreed.
At that moment, Layla happened to walk over: “Mr. Jacob, let’s continue practicing.”
“OK!”
Jacob stood up, greeted Vienna, and then went downstairs with Layla.
“Mr. Jacob, Josie’s family has been urging her to get married, so she was in a bad mood yesterday and might have offended you. I hope you’re not angry.”
This was what Josie had asked Layla to say, promising a big meal in return.
She certainly didn’t want to give up on this newly freed wealthy man, so she quickly devised a “reputation recovery plan.”
First, she had her friend Layla help smooth things over, and later, she would sincerely apologize. Even if she couldn’t completely recover her image as a gold digger in Jacob’s eyes, at least she wanted him to change his opinion of her.
“Your friend is overthinking it; I didn’t take it to heart at all,” Jacob shook his head with a smile; he genuinely hadn’t taken it to heart. The so-called blind date yesterday was merely to give that enthusiastic Aunt Megan some face.
Previously, he had been busy delivering takeout, and some kindergarten matters were relayed to him by Aunt Megan.
“You know, I just got divorced, and I have no plans to get married in the near future, or rather, I have no thoughts of remarrying at all!”
Jacob spoke from the heart. His not-so-perfect marriage with Karen had instilled a fear of marriage in him, akin to the saying, “Once bitten by a snake, ten years afraid of a rope.”
Especially now that he had a precious daughter, his genes had already been passed on.
As for having a son to carry on the family line, he thought it would happen naturally. In fact, three years ago, when the Best Diet restaurant was still doing well, he did have thoughts of having a second child, especially since his parents were urging him to have a grandson.
The older generation generally held traditional views, believing that without a male heir, the family line would be cut off.
However, as the mask incident escalated and the Best Diet restaurant’s business plummeted, Jacob shelved the idea of having a second child.
Layla could probably understand Jacob’s feelings; it indeed takes time to recover from a failed relationship, and many people never fully recover in their lifetime.
“Mr. Jacob, how are you?”
“It’s still so early today.”
When they reached the second floor, Mira, who had been chatting with a male coach, immediately greeted them with a bright smile.
Jacob had a pretty deep impression of this charming female coach. Yesterday, while he was in the equipment area for class, she had been nearby lifting weights, and her occasional movements had been quite a feast for his eyes.
But Jacob wasn’t familiar with her, so he just casually responded.
“Mr. Jacob, let’s go over there.”
