Destined to Rise – Chapter 166

Incompetent

It was only because Whitaker Scarlett’s new business was so incredibly profitable that Elizabeth’s oil residue business seemed insignificant.

Back when they were still living in the Whitaker family if Elizabeth earned over 600 dollars a month, would their grandma still criticize her for not bearing a son, and would Chris still beat her?  Probably.  Personality determines destiny.  If Elizabeth didn’t become stronger herself, even if she had the skill to make money, it would be useless; it would be taken away by others in the Whitaker family.

Leaving the Whitaker family as soon as possible was Whitaker Scarlett’s most correct decision.

Elizabeth had her own ideas. Whitaker Scarlett felt sorry for her, but Elizabeth thought the oil residue business was excellent:

“Mom wants to continue selling.”

Several hundred kg of oil residue every day, there was even a shortage at the oil mill’s waste disposal area.  Before she had cleared out all the oil residue from the oil mill, Elizabeth wasn’t willing to let go.

Selling oil residue meant the hard work of transporting goods to the countryside, but Elizabeth was clear about how much to weigh and how much to charge. She didn’t have Whitaker Scarlett’s quick wit, she couldn’t persuade city women to buy clothes, but selling oil residue didn’t require eloquence.  Pig farmers needed it, and they would pay for it!

Elizabeth felt this business suited her. What was a little hardship? She had the strength.  If she didn’t make money, would she just stay at home and rely on her daughter?

Whitaker Scarlett couldn’t persuade her mother. Their family’s financial situation was still too weak, which was why her mother wanted to save money.

For Elizabeth, giving up a business that could bring in several thousand dollars a year would be too much of a pity.

The mother and daughter talked half the night. Early the next morning, Whitaker Scarlett got up to see Kay off. This time, it was Elizabeth’s  cake, with Whitaker Scarlett preparing the filling as usual. They made two whole kg of meat filling for Kay and Leo to eat on the road.

Kay didn’t want to leave.

Whitaker Scarlett stuffed the cake into his hands, “Don’t be sentimental, I’ll go to Capital to see you when I have time.”

The ungrateful little thing.

Kay drove away, and Whitaker Scarlett went home.

In a place where she couldn’t see, Kay’s car turned a corner and headed towards the Yellow River Hotel.

Seeing the hotel building from afar, Leo exclaimed, “Oh, the guy who was eyeing my sister-in-law works here?”

“Don’t be sarcastic. I think although my sister-in-law didn’t like him, she didn’t dislike him either. It’s just that his mother is too annoying, I’m afraid that woman will cause trouble again.”

The Yellow River Hotel was an international hotel.

With a red carpet at the entrance, even locals from Harborfield came to eat here. Those who dared to enter the hotel were either rich or powerful.

Truck drivers, who were considered money-makers in the eyes of ordinary people, were nothing special at the Yellow River Hotel. However, Kay and Leo were not easily intimidated, and the hotel couldn’t really stop them from entering.

Once inside, early in the morning, the two ordered shark fin soup!

The waiter looked at the two with a troubled expression, “Shark fin soup needs time to soak, it needs to be pre-ordered.”

Did you think it was vermicelli?

Just soak it in hot water, and in twenty minutes, you can have a plate of spicy vermicelli!

That’s shark fin, it takes a long time to soak, and the process is quite complicated.

“Then a serving of Eight Treasure Bear Paw, a serving of Lotus Monkey Head, a serving of Oil-Smothered Flying Dragon…” Leo smacked his lips, still unsatisfied, and placed a stack of large denomination banknotes on the table, indicating that he had the money to pay.

The Yellow River Hotel did serve bear paws, the most expensive being the large plate of braised bear paws, costing 330 dollars a serving!

Eight Treasure Bear Paw was also not cheap, at 230 dollars.

Lotus Monkey Head wasn’t a monkey’s head, it was monkey head mushroom.

Oil-Smothered Flying Dragon was, of course, not a real dragon.  “Dragon meat” refers to this flying dragon bird.

The waiter was sweating profusely. Compared to the extremely expensive Eight Treasure Bear Paw, Lotus Monkey Head only cost 35 dollars, and Oil-Smothered Flying Dragon was only 40 dollars.

But bear paws, monkey head mushrooms, and flying dragons, even the Yellow River Hotel didn’t always have these ingredients in stock… Who the hell would randomly order these dishes at a hotel?!

“I’m sorry, we don’t have those… Should I go to the kitchen and ask what dishes we can serve you two today?”

The waiter’s attitude was very polite.

If it weren’t for the money Leo had put on the table, these two would definitely be here to cause trouble.

Now they were also causing trouble, but you couldn’t just throw out rich people who were causing trouble. The waiter was flustered by Leo, and Leo drawled:

“Oh, you don’t have any of these, your hotel’s purchasing department is really incompetent!”
