Destined to Rise – Chapter 162

Ordinary

“Scarlett has never spent my money; you are insulting these women who come to buy clothes. They are spending their money honestly, and it’s a fair exchange; can it be because of me?”

Caroline had just confused those women.

They were happily choosing clothes when suddenly a madwoman burst in, saying the clothes they bought were tainted with the vixen’s lewdness. They had already paid; did they still want the clothes?

Caught in a dilemma, the madwoman was both spitting at Whitaker Scarlett and insulting them all together.

Saying they only came to buy clothes because of the handsome men.

Well, that was indeed a factor, but to say it so bluntly, did they still want to be human?

With Kay’s words, the women regained their senses and began to retort:

“Your thoughts are too filthy!”

“Your words are too harsh; individual vendors are still people, right? They can change their business if they want!”

“I think it’s because of your sharp tongue that you forced her original business to fail, and now she has to sell women’s clothing!”

“Your tone is more powerful than the mayor’s; you control the heavens and the earth, and now you want to control the street stalls?”

Whitaker Scarlett was indeed very alluring; honestly speaking, which woman wouldn’t want to look that beautiful?

Whitaker Scarlett had a face that made people envious and jealous, yet she was meticulous in business, calculating every penny, and when it came time to pay, she felt the pinch. Logically, they should hate Whitaker Scarlett; when someone criticized her, they would cheer, so why were they standing up for her?

It must be that this madwoman was too annoying.

In the midst of the chatter, Caroline was left red-faced.

“If you didn’t have anything to gain from the vixen, why would she look at you?”

Kay thought seriously for a full half minute:

“…Because I’m more handsome than your son?”

“You, you… you shameless!”

Caroline was so angry she couldn’t find the words.

Kay was indeed handsome; she couldn’t argue with that, so she could only curse him for being shameless. Kay, however, frowned:

“Clarify what you just said. Who seduced your son just to sell some goods to the hotel?”

Selling some eels to the hotel, and needing to seduce the buyer?

Kay was almost laughing in anger.

From the first time they met, he had never hidden his feelings for Whitaker Scarlett, nor had he concealed his financial situation. He had even straightforwardly suggested doing business together. If anyone was to seduce, shouldn’t it be him trying to seduce her?

Kay knew that professions should not be looked down upon. Her son was just a small buyer at the hotel, and as a mother, she wasn’t that impressive either.

It was strange to be scolded by such a minor character without feeling angry.

Whitaker Scarlett was afraid Kay would hit someone. The nature of women tearing each other apart was different from men hitting women. Whitaker Scarlett felt that Parker Jace’s mother deserved a beating; she had directly confronted her earlier. Now, she couldn’t let Parker Jace’s mother just spew nonsense and run away; Whitaker Scarlett still had business to do in the market.

“I supply the hotel honestly, and the quality of the eels speaks for itself. You insist on saying it’s because I seduced your son. Your words insult your son’s professional integrity. If he neglects his duties for personal reasons, how can he be worthy of the organization’s trust? Moreover, I have no romantic feelings for your son. You warned me last time to stay away from him and even hinted that you could arrange a job for me… I’ve changed my career and didn’t take the job you offered. I’m far enough away from your son now, so why are you still causing a scene?!”

Whitaker Scarlett’s tone was filled with disdain.

With a mother like that stirring up trouble, even if Parker Jace looked just like Kay, she wouldn’t look at him.

Dating was already troublesome; let alone marrying into the Parker family!

She didn’t even know if Kay’s mother was easy to get along with.

Fortunately, she was in the market, and the family was in the capital, so she wouldn’t have to face Kay’s family anytime soon.

Whitaker Scarlett shot Kay a glance, and Kay felt inexplicably wronged.

Caroline was left speechless by Whitaker Scarlett’s words.

Whitaker Scarlett had clearly stated that she looked down on her son, so she wouldn’t do the eel business anymore and would keep her distance from everyone in the Parker family… Caroline couldn’t accept that. Her son was so outstanding, yet he was being rejected by Whitaker Scarlett. She couldn’t just go along with Whitaker Scarlett’s words; if she insisted that Whitaker Scarlett seduced Parker Jace, it would mean Parker Jace was betraying the organization’s trust and was biased in his purchasing decisions—everyone was doing that, but no one could openly admit it!

A woman like Whitaker Scarlett, a vixen, must have weighed the pros and cons before making her choice. Caroline calmed down and looked at Kay again; he indeed didn’t seem like an ordinary person.
