Train tickets were hard to come by, but since Kay wanted one, he always found a way to get his hands on a ticket. Whitaker Scarlett refused his offer to upgrade to a sleeper berth again. “Kay, this is my life.”
Just like she had previously refused his offers of rides, in Whitaker Scarlett’s words, they hadn’t reached the point where she could enjoy such things yet.
She lived within her means. She would eventually get what she wanted, and in this respect, Whitaker Scarlett truly didn’t want to rely on anyone. Now that she had Kay to rely on, she was slowly developing a dependence. What if she couldn’t rely on him later? After all, their relationship wasn’t official yet; who knew what the future held?
Kay always gave in to Whitaker Scarlett; he didn’t want to upset her in such matters.
So they would sit in hard seats. He wasn’t afraid of hardship.
Leo was staying in Harborfield. Kay instructed him to help William handle the withdrawal of his shares… Those involved in smuggling weren’t good people. Would they easily return William’s share if he asked to withdraw?
“Don’t go yourself. I remember Zephyr’s family has relatives in Harborfield. Ask Zephyr for help, and I’ll thank him when we get back to capital.”
Zephyr was also from the same compound.
His family wasn’t as prominent as the Kace family, but Zephyr had many uncles and aunts. Kay remembered Zephyr’s uncle seemed to have been transferred to Harborfield last year.
Getting William’s money back was a small matter. By using Zephyr’s uncle’s connections, Kay mainly wanted to send a warning to those who had partnered with William, letting them know that William had someone backing him, preventing them from retaliating out of fear of William leaking information.
Leo understood the gravity of the situation.
“Kay, don’t worry, I’ll definitely handle this!”
William was the future wife’s uncle of Kay, making him Kay’s uncle, and thus, Leo’s uncle by half. Leo would definitely get William out of this unscathed.
With Kay accompanying her this time, Whitaker Scarlett felt much more relaxed about going to Sablewick.
The train was boring. They had to endure over thirty hours; they couldn’t just stare at each other the whole time, could they? Whitaker Scarlett brought two books. While busy making money, she was also steadily reviewing according to her plan.
To master the knowledge points, besides understanding and memorizing, she had to employ the “sea of questions” tactic.
Whitaker Scarlett had paid her tuition at County East High School, and she never missed any of the school’s printed test papers, taking them home to practice. There were so few supplementary textbooks available; wanting to buy Secret Papers was like dreaming. Each school’s teachers created their own questions, and the printed papers had a strong smell of ink. After finishing a paper, her palms and cuffs were black.
There was a unified test at school next month. If Whitaker Scarlett wanted to get a high score, she had no choice but to do more questions within the limited time.
The good news was that her memory of the 1984 math college entrance examination paper was becoming clearer. She could now recall half of the paper, the questions clear, and the answers vivid in her mind. Before the college entrance examination, Whitaker Scarlett already had 60 points in hand. She felt a little embarrassed, but she also thought that cheating was incredibly awesome! It wasn’t really cheating; it was a test paper she had done in her past life!
Master mathematics, physics, and chemistry, and you won’t fear the world. Her past life’s teachers hadn’t lied to her.
However, Whitaker Scarlett didn’t overly rely on her vivid memory of the “1984 math college entrance examination paper.” Until she actually got the exam paper next year, there were still variables as to whether the college entrance examination paper would be the same as her memory.
The same principle applied: only if she truly reviewed well, regardless of whether next year’s college entrance examination was easy or difficult, would she have a better chance of success.
Kay hadn’t expected her to review and practice questions on the train.
His envisioned romantic journey had turned into quietly watching Whitaker Scarlett study diligently. The train was noisy, so Whitaker Scarlett stuffed cotton balls in her ears. They only talked when Whitaker Scarlett took a break from studying.
With Kay around, no human traffickers would dare to target Whitaker Scarlett.
Kay looked unapproachable and didn’t seem to be short of money.
To scam Whitaker Scarlett using a get-rich-quick scheme, they would first have to get past Kay… He looked at Whitaker Scarlett with such ardent eyes. Did Whitaker Scarlett even need to make money elsewhere? If she just asked Kay, he would offer her all his earnings.
Unfortunately, Whitaker Scarlett didn’t care for his money.
Kay had been handsome since childhood, attracting the attention of girls and women alike. Whitaker Scarlett was even more beautiful than him, so this tactic probably wouldn’t work either.
Kay glanced at the time and finally took the book from Whitaker Scarlett’s hands.
“No more. Take a break.”
Whitaker Scarlett rubbed her eyes. Their train had departed at noon, and she had been studying for five or six hours. Whitaker Scarlett was indeed tired.
“Kay, I’m sorry, I seem to have neglected you?”
Kay offered her some water.
