Against the Alpha’s Claim – Chapter 274

The cubicle

Felt Maddis detected movement after assessing the surroundings; the structure was merely a diminutive cottage situated in a remote location. His creature was approaching it; he sensed Macky within. He forcefully entered that hut. The chamber was modest, including a single window and an open door that revealed the staircase descending below.

The air was permeated with the foul odour of decaying flesh, and as they descended the steps, they observed about a dozen filthy chambers, suggesting that many had certainly perished in this location. Macky was shirtless in a cell, having utilised his shirt to secure the cell door to the bars, facilitating an escape for Bella. He considered him a clever individual.

The deceased individuals were seen in the cubicle. Macky was indeed correct; she had eviscerated them all, leaving blood splattered everywhere. Maddis walked directly by Mia, who was situated on the opposite side of the room. His gaze shifted to her, exuding rage; they heard her cry in agony but disregarded her in favour of the living occupant in the cell.

One individual lay on the floor, seemingly gasping for breath. The observer directed their gaze at him, turned him onto his back, and permitted him to gaze upward, sensing the palpable anxiety emanating from him as Maddis extended a hand towards him. Fractured the wolf’s neck to ensure its demise.

They pivoted and gazed at Macky. “The Beta possesses the key,” he informed Maddis, although his beast seemed disinclined to examine the deceased males and redirected its focus to Mia, who was currently giving birth across the room. We cannot eliminate a pregnant she-wolf. Luke prompted him.

“Indeed, I can.” His beast growled menacingly at him as he approached her.

Negative, Maddis. “We cannot,” he asserted in response. If the female had not been pregnant, he would not be engaged in an argument with his beast at this moment and would not have intervened at all.

Luke observed Maddis grasp her by the hair, indifferent to her labour, and inhale her scent. The partially familiar scent from a few days prior belonged to her; the reason for their failure to recognise it was due to the presence of both a distinct pack scent and a Mate’s scent, which rendered it entirely different. He contorted his hand in her hair, aggressively rotating her head while she shouted out in pain, presumably not due to a contraction.

Upon examining the woman’s neck, a mark remained; she was not affiliated with the deceased Alpha or any of the guys present. Her mark remained intact, albeit she bore the scent of the Alpha’s pack, indicating her affiliation with them. “One remains alive,” he growled furiously.

“Maddis.” She implored him breathlessly, extending her hand in an attempt to make contact. Maddis merely squandered the opportunity, snarling at her while his claws inflicted a bloody trail across her hand, seeing and perceiving the dread emanating from her. However, what did she anticipate would occur? They were prepared to reinstate her notwithstanding her previous actions.

‘Maddis, reposition us.’

We must locate Tyler.

“I understand, my friend; I also desire Bella’s return. We require Macky’s assistance to achieve that.”

Observed through Maddis’s perspective as he pivoted and gazed at their

Gamma attuned his hearing to the external environment above them; there was no audible conflict, yet both tethers to Jodi and Bradley had ceased their movement away and were, in fact, returning towards them. “Lost Tyler,” Maddis exhaled in frustration.

They could no longer perceive her; she was now too distant from them, he sighed. He was repositioned and heard Mia whimper his name. He stared at her momentarily before turning away, as she was not his problem. He left her behind to search for the key to Macky’s cell in order to release him.

“Are you well?”“He enquired as he unlatched the door.”

The man exhibited multiple burn wounds on his arms and one on his shoulder, along with welts around his arms, presumably inflicted by the Delta he had attempted to restrain through the bars.

“Indeed, we shall recover completely within a day or so.” He then groaned, “I apologise, Luke.”

“It is not your fault,” Luke informed him. “I ought never to have granted the men the night off.”

Bella, once the cherished lover of future Alpha Luke of the Red Moon Pack, finds her world shattered when she is banished from her pack. Her crime? Striking Luke’s newly discovered fated mate with claws unsheathed—a reflex her wolf, Tyler, cryptically defends with the words, “To protect the pup.” Stripped of her place in the pack and warned never to return, Bella complies, narrowly avoiding the rogue label since Luke has not yet ascended to full Alpha status. Heartbroken and resolute, she retreats to the human world, immersing herself in university life to complete her law degree. Bella carves out a new existence as a successful divorce attorney, far from the pack that cast her aside, the future Luna who despises her, and the secret she guards fiercely—her children, the legacy of a love she can never reclaim. Six years pass in self-imposed exile, but the past refuses to stay buried. When an official letter from the Red Moon Pack demands her return, Bella defiantly burns it, vowing never to step foot in Luke’s territory again. But Luke, now the reigning Alpha, is relentless. He will bring her back, no matter the cost. Bound by the constraints of human law and society, Luke cannot simply take her by force—her prominence in the human world complicates any attempt to make her disappear. Yet, he is determined to claim what he believes is his by right. As their paths cross again, Bella is thrust into a storm of conflicting emotions. Her wolf yearns for Luke, urging her to reclaim the bond they share, but Bella’s heart is torn. She despises the man who cast her out yet still feels the undeniable pull of their connection. To her, Luke’s motives are clear: he wants his heirs by his side, not her. She believes his wolf drives him to claim her, while the man himself sees her merely as the mother of his children, a convenient solution to his legacy. But is that the truth? Or does Luke harbor a deeper love for her that he has yet to admit—even to himself? In the battle between pride and fate, will Bella surrender to the mate bond or stand firm in her resolve to remain free? Only time will reveal whether their fractured past can heal, or if the scars will prove too deep to overcome.
