Once outside, Lola finally felt her tension release, and her legs trembled. Her heart raced so wildly that she could hardly take a step.
What did I just say?
What have I done?
She couldn’t understand how she had walked out of the coffee shop so composedly without collapsing.
She didn’t know what kind of audacity had led her to boldly confront a woman who seemed so confident.
Even upon reflection, it was an audacious and crazy act.
As she repeatedly calmed her startled heart, her phone buzzed with a notification that she had received a message.
Gently, she opened her bag, unzipped it, and took out her phone to check the message, her expression quickly regaining its calm.
– You’re not already asleep, are you?
Even such a trivial message brought Lola a sense of comfort.
He was someone who had a special ability to instantly quell her anxieties.
Investigations into the slush fund allegations against the CEO of MAZ Motors had been ongoing for six hours, from the afternoon until evening. By the time Dylan left the prosecutor’s office, it was already past 9:30 PM.
It wasn’t too late, but it wasn’t early, either.
She had been busy all day, so not only did she not meet her, but she also couldn’t even send a text.
Since tomorrow seemed like it would be busy as well, Dylan had just sent a text a moment ago because she had a gift to give to Lola, even if it was just for a short while.
[You’re not already asleep, are you?]
A quick reply came back.
-Of course not. Dear, have you had dinner?
Even though it was a very formal question, a smile crept onto Dylan’s face without her realizing it.
While Dylan was typing a message to her, more speech bubbles appeared.
-I haven’t had dinner yet. Would you like to come and eat together?
She hadn’t eaten dinner?
What on earth had she been doing until this hour that she hadn’t eaten?
-You don’t want to? But can’t you eat just a little more?
Since the reply was delayed, did she understand it as a refusal? The text she sent this time was filled with earnestness.
[Where are you right now?]
-You know the rib house across from National University Hospital? You came there once before. Let’s meet there.
Both her text and the fact that she hadn’t eaten dinner yet seemed strange.
For some reason, she looked different from usual, and an unusual energy was felt.
Since Dylan trusted his instincts completely, he called Gia before starting the car.
Since Lola worked at the same hospital, he thought she might know something.
Before the phone rang twice, a bright voice came through.
-Big Brother, what’s going on at this late hour?
“Did something happen to Lola today?”
It seemed Gia had become very accustomed to Dylan’s direct approach of skipping formalities and getting straight to the point.
-What? What happened?
“I asked you.”
Dylan frowned at Gia’s response, which was not the answer he wanted.
-Why are you asking like that? Is something wrong with Lola?
I asked you!
As Gia repeated his question, Dylan’s forehead creased in frustration.
“Is Lola on duty today?”
-No.
“Got it. I’m hanging up.”
-Big Brother, what on earth…
It seemed like she still had questions to ask, as Gia’s voice could be heard through the receiver, but Dylan pressed the end call button. He then immediately started the car.
He would find out what had happened once he met Lola.
She was a woman whose emotions and expressions were honestly displayed on her face.
*******
In order to arrive faster, Lola took a taxi from Star Hotel and hurriedly made her way to the rib house, leaving her breathless. However, without a moment to catch her breath, Lola looked around the inside of the restaurant, scanning for Dylan.
It seemed he had not arrived yet.
That was a relief.
If he had arrived first and was waiting for her, she would have felt sorry.
Lola walked to a table where she could see the entrance clearly and sat down. Soon, a waiter approached, flipping through the menu and politely asking.
“Would you like to order, ma’am?”
“There’s one more person coming, so I’ll order when he arrives.”
“Okay.”
The waiter nodded and stepped back. Lola fixed her gaze on the entrance and sipped water to catch her breath.
Human greed seems to have no end. Even after receiving comfort from the text he sent, her greed was like a spoiled child, refusing to stop there.
On a day like today, if he were by her side, looking at his handsome face would surely bring her peace of mind.
She missed him so much.
That’s why she said she hadn’t eaten dinner and suggested they eat together.
She thought his reply would be delayed and that he would refuse, but thankfully, he accepted her request.
