“It’s nice to see you two sitting together so affectionately. You know, kids around Dylan’s age are already getting married and having two or three kids. I thought he must have been hiding a woman somewhere since he’s been so quiet all this time.”
Hiding a woman?
Is this guy really trying to block someone’s marriage?
I can’t believe he’s saying such nonsense.
Mariana and Gia reacted the same way to Zach’s slip of the tongue, both looking utterly dumbfounded.
Even the same words can be interpreted differently depending on who hears them; jokes can be understood in various ways.
Anyone who knows Dylan’s prickly and defensive personality, like Mariana and Gia, would be certain that he has no hidden woman, but Lola could easily misunderstand.
She was already instinctively sensitive and on edge whenever a woman related to Dylan popped up.
As expected, Lola’s expression shook like a candle in the wind. Noticing that Lola’s mood was off, Mariana scolded her husband, Zach, for the first time.
“You’re talking nonsense; you must have drunk too much. Please stop drinking, honey.”
“Right? Dad, where would there be a hidden woman for my brother?”
Gia also spoke firmly, worried that Lola might misunderstand for no reason. Yet, Zach, still oblivious to the atmosphere, continued his nonsensical chatter as if he was determined to block his son’s marriage.
“No, did I say something that wasn’t true? Up until now, Dylan has been making a fuss about not wanting to meet any women I introduced him to. He runs away if he doesn’t make a mess of every blind date. That’s why I thought he might be hiding another woman.”
‘If this guy is going to drink, he should do it gracefully. He should be careful with his words in front of his son, who is about to get married, and his future daughter-in-law. What kind of reckless behavior is this?’
‘Oh, Dad, why are you like this? You’ve had too much to drink today.’
Mariana and Gia swallowed their silent screams, unsure how to handle this absurd situation.
Dylan felt just as absurd.
What hidden woman could he possibly have? I don’t understand why my father is bringing up a woman who doesn’t even exist.
Lola could misunderstand.
As he turned his head anxiously, he caught sight of Lola’s worried face, and he felt a sigh coming on.
“I didn’t expect that woman to be Lola. But I never dreamed they would be having a secret romance.”
Zach burst into laughter as he spoke, completely unaware of how much he had unsettled his family, including Mariana and Gia, with his absurd comment.
“Now that you mention it, it does sound like that. It seems like you’ve been hiding Lola all this time, brother. I’ve felt it before, but you two look so good sitting next to each other.”
At first, Hamza was confused by his father-in-law’s words, wondering what on earth he was talking about. He couldn’t help but think that Dylan Eve had an unexpectedly mischievous side.
As Hamza chuckled and lightened the mood, Zach’s gaze returned to Lola.
“Lola has been Gia’s best friend for a long time. They’ve been very close since high school. To us, she’s like another daughter. But now, it feels like I’ve gained a daughter, and I’m happy about it. Isn’t it amazing how connections work in this world?”
Zach spoke in an excited tone, his face beaming with satisfaction as he downed a shot of vodka. Suddenly, Kelvin, who had been eating, burst into laughter, finding something amusing. Zach’s smile grew wider.
“You two should have at least two kids. Look at them! Aren’t they adorable and cute? Just watching them makes me feel full. If you have kids, we’ll help raise them, so you don’t have to worry or feel burdened.”
While speaking, Zach gazed lovingly at the twin siblings. Hamza chimed in.
“It’s better to raise two kids than just one. If they take after you and Lola, they’ll be incredibly beautiful and cute.”
“I was just thinking the same thing.”
Gia nodded in agreement.
Lola blushed shyly. When her eyes briefly met Dylan’s, she quickly turned her head away.
Today, her emotions were all over the place again.
To live with Dylan Eve, she needed to have a strong mental state, but that didn’t seem easy at all.
“Since we’ve gathered today, let’s not worry and just drink to our heart’s content.”
With those words from Zach, the drinking session began to pick up again. Gia felt concerned for Hamza, who was making a troubled face because of Zach’s insistence on pouring drinks, but she didn’t say anything to stop him.
After all, today was a day to feel good.
And so, the pleasant laughter and good vibes deepened into a delightful night.
