This news was like a bolt from the blue for Thelma. She felt it was impossible; she had taken birth control pills, so how could she be pregnant? Unable to accept it, she went to several other hospitals for checks, only to receive the same result.
Thelma did not return to school; she went home to tell her sister, who was now the only person she could trust.
“How could this happen? I clearly took birth control pills.”

Her sister’s determination made Thelma feel distressed. She hugged her sister and cried; she really didn’t know what to do.
In the end, Thelma was persuaded by her sister. She went through the procedures to take a leave of absence from school, preparing to stay home to give birth, and after the baby was born, she would treat the inflammation and then return to school.
“Just stay at home. The restaurant business is doing well, and since you’ve rented out your own place, you have rental income, so you don’t need to worry about finances. Pregnant women need to maintain a good mood, you know?”
