No one would carry over a hundred dollars while shopping; they gave Whitaker Scarlett a deposit and rushed home to get the money. She stood there for a few hours, amazed by the crazy purchasing power of the women of Harborfield, because all the wearable sizes were sold out.
The style and quality of these sweaters were carefully selected by Whitaker Scarlett.
They were unique Sablewick goods, not available in the Harborfield clothing wholesale market. But even though they sold so well, it still exceeded Whitaker Scarlett’s expectations.
She had two sweaters left, which she had deliberately kept.
Money was so easy to earn, Whitaker Scarlett didn’t feel tired at all. She couldn’t wait to book another ticket to Sablewick immediately, to roll the money she had earned a few more times. She would be able to buy a house in Harborfield next year—if anyone was willing to sell!
She had to prepare to stay in Harborfield for a while; compared to Harborfield, the market in Greenfield County was too small.
Whitaker Scarlett pulled her cart, originally intending to find a guesthouse to rest, but suddenly thought of renting a room. She wouldn’t go door to door asking; Whitaker Scarlett had an acquaintance in Harborfield, Hughes Lawrence from the city guesthouse!
Seeing Whitaker Scarlett appear in front of him with her cart, Hughes Lawrence blinked:
“Scarlett? Long time no see. I heard from that you went back to high school?”
Whitaker Scarlett never visited anyone empty-handed.
She wasn’t someone who sought connections at the last minute. Her relationship with Hughes Lawrence hadn’t actually been severed; recently, Elizabeth had been the one delivering goods.
“I’m studying, but the school has agreed to let me take the exam directly. He knows my family’s circumstances; I dare not slack off and want to continue doing some small business in the city.”
No one dislikes an ambitious young person, even if Whitaker Scarlett had a relationship with him, and they had interacted before. If Whitaker Scarlett succeeded, Hughes Lawrence would be happy for her.
“You should seize any opportunity. You have such great innate advantages. If you get into university, that would be incredible!”
Parker Jace was interested in Whitaker Scarlett, but Parker Jace’s family disapproved.
It was simply because they disliked Whitaker Scarlett’s rural household registration and that her family couldn’t offer any help. If Whitaker Scarlett really got into university, her household registration status would change, and the state would arrange a good job for her. At that time, she might not even look at Parker Jace!
Whitaker Scarlett didn’t ask him for much help, only asking Hughes Lawrence if he knew anyone who rented out rooms.
“Rent a room? What are your requirements?”
“Good security, a single room is fine, and the landlord should preferably be a woman.”
Hughes Lawrence promised to help find out as soon as possible. Whitaker Scarlett added a special instruction: “Comrade Parker Jace’s mother has a bit of a misunderstanding about me. She doesn’t like Parker Jace and me to have much contact. The fact that I’m renting a room in Harborfield, you…”
Hughes Lawrence understood, “Certainly, only I will know.”
Whitaker Scarlett was particularly happy. She had originally intended to take the sweaters back to Amanda and Elizabeth, but she directly gave one to Hughes Lawrence:
“I’m doing this business now. This one is for your wife! Can I leave these clothes racks here temporarily?”
Hughes Lawrence paused, making a gesture as if to pay, but Whitaker Scarlett waved her hand and ran away.
Hughes Lawrence chuckled.
He was still petty, thinking Whitaker Scarlett was trying to force the clothes on him. Whitaker Scarlett was always generous, and just for that, Hughes Lawrence felt that this girl’s future prospects wouldn’t be too bad.
Whitaker Scarlett left her clothes racks and cart at Hughes Lawrence’s place.
The city committee guesthouse was so large that a corner could easily be found for storage, and Hughes Lawrence had the authority to do so. Feeling relieved, Whitaker Scarlett took the money from today’s sales and took a bus back to Greenfield County. The section from Greenfield to Wellwater Village was not accessible by car. Luckily, a tractor gave her a ride.
Her sudden appearance at the doorstep surprised Amanda and Elizabeth. Micheal clung to her legs, missing his cousin for several days.
“You girl, you’ve been gone for days without a word!”
“Did everything go smoothly?”
“Take a rest; you haven’t eaten yet!”
