“It is merely you and I now,” I murmur, suppressing my tears as I stroke my abdomen. “However, it is acceptable. We require no one else.”
I get off the floor and locate my phone. The vehicles were all owned by Aldo, so I schedule a cab to fetch me in an hour.
While awaiting Aldo’s call to finalise the divorce and rejection, I anxiously fidget with my Luna and wedding bands, reflecting about the happiness I previously experienced as a member of this pack.
I was exceedingly apprehensive the day Aldo introduced me to his wolf for the first time. We had been dating for merely a few weeks, yet the chemistry between us was unmistakable. He exhibited a degree of possessiveness, which I interpreted as a compliment, signifying that I was deemed worthy of protection. When he escorted me to the pack house, I nearly ended our relationship, as I felt I was being inducted into a cult, given the manner in which everyone addressed him as Alpha.
After some persuasion, I consented to maintain my relationship with him. I cannot articulate the reason, but I had developed profound feelings for him. On a night illuminated by a full moon, Aldo invited me to a picnic in the woods. The situation took an unforeseen twist when my boyfriend abruptly transformed into a large black wolf, prompting me to flee in terror. I refrained from communicating with him for a week, fearing that he or his werewolf companions might harm me.
He sought me out at my flat, expressing his dependence on me, claiming he could not exist without my presence, a sentiment I could not refute. My attraction to him was profound and multifaceted. He exhibited patience, facilitating my acclimatisation to his unfamiliar world and instructing me in the customs of pack life. I found it admirable how they collectively prioritised one another, resembling a vast family devoted to mutual protection.
When he requested to transform me, I declined. I appreciated his identity as a werewolf, but if he desired my companionship, he must accept me as determined by his Moon Goddess, as a human. Our relationship nearly concluded once more, but when an ex-boyfriend expressed his lingering feelings for me, Aldo recognised his deeper desire for me and acquiesced to my request. That very night, I was marked, unequivocally establishing my allegiance.
I dedicated months to training with Aldo’s mother to comprehend my responsibilities as Luna, honing my skills in de-escalation during pack and Alpha meetings, studying pack laws, and undergoing warrior training for self-defence. My Luna ceremony was flawless. My dashing Alpha requested that I co-lead the pack with him in the presence of all its members, and I embraced the responsibility. He proposed that day, and I had never experienced greater happiness. Everything appeared to be aligning perfectly.
Who could have anticipated the turmoil my life would descend into? That I would find myself alone in my bedroom, awaiting my husband’s decision to divorce me while clandestinely bearing his child?
I hear the door click once more as Marlon peeks his head inside.
“The Alpha summons you, Luna,” he states tersely, shutting the door without a backward glance.
I wipe the tears from my cheeks, remove my rings, and grip them in my hands. The corridor appears elongated, yet I proceed swiftly to the office where Aldo, the elders, the lawyer, Marlon, Zen, and Nina await my arrival.
Nina evades my gaze, moving uneasily on her feet, prompting me to refrain from glancing at her again and instead concentrate on the man who shattered my heart. I elevate my head as I approach the centre of the room to welcome the Elders.
The attorney advances, showcasing the paperwork he has prepared for me.
“Mr. Kye has requested an equitable division of all your assets. The pack assets will, of course, remain his, but personal property, bank accounts, and…”
Prior to his continuation of more absurdities, I seize the documents from his grasp and procure a pen, inscribing my signature on each requisite line.
“He may retain all possessions,” I murmur, striving to maintain composure. “I merely wish to preserve my bank accounts. I laboured diligently for my earnings and am entitled to retain them.”
As a Luna, I received a monthly stipend for my contributions to the pack’s management. Consequently, I was entitled to retain the all of my earnings from this pack.
Aldo gestures to the lawyer, who inscribes a message on a sheet of paper and presents it to me.
“The funds will be deposited into this account by the week’s conclusion,” he states, placing the divorce documents into his briefcase. “Pardon me.”
In the absence of the lawyer, Elder Allen retrieves the tablet and a black blade.
“Luna Laura, your Alpha has mandated the revocation of your title and your immediate departure from this pack. Do you have any objections?”
