Due to the location, we took the bus this time. I focused all my attention on the handrail I was holding and my feet. Although I had embarrassed myself on the bus before, this time I was next to him, and I couldn’t mess up. Sigh! Next time, I really shouldn’t think about it; otherwise, what I fear will come true. Just as I had made up my mind, the bus suddenly braked hard, and the handrail slipped from my grip. I closed my eyes, bracing myself to fall to the side, thinking, “I’m destined to embarrass myself in front of my true love!”
“Wow!”
I heard gasps from the passengers. I opened my eyes and found that as I fell, he had instinctively wrapped his arms around my waist to prevent me from falling further. Now, I was nestled in his embrace. I was speechless; this was straight out of a drama scene! No wonder the young woman next to me looked at me with envy and jealousy.
“Good thing I caught you.” He whispered in my ear.
I felt his embrace, his broad chest, and his strong arms; wasn’t that much better than the handrail?
“What if I don’t want to get up?” I blurted out in a daze.
He paused for a moment, “Then don’t get up.” As he spoke, his arms tightened around me.
“Wow! How did you know I like to read?”
It was a bookstore shaped like a small villa, with a courtyard full of flowers, creating a beautiful scene.
“You mentioned it before, and it’s so hot right now; it wouldn’t be good for you to be in the sun.”
“This is a bookstore opened by my friend. You can read as many books as you want.” He suddenly leaned in and whispered in my ear, causing my face to flush a light red.
I felt completely captivated; he actually remembered such a small thing I had said. My friends could never remember such details, and he even considered that the sun would make me uncomfortable. In this regard, he completely overshadowed the indifferent wolves. Could it be that he likes me? Just thinking about it made my heart race uncontrollably, beating so fast that I was having a bit of trouble breathing.
“Are you okay?”
Seeing my flushed cheeks and slightly panting, he worriedly reached out to check my forehead. Ah! Why is he so gentle? How can I calm down like this?
“I’m… I’m fine, let’s go!”
The bookstore was arranged very comfortably, with cool air conditioning, a faint floral scent mixed with rich coffee aroma, and those inviting chairs that looked so cozy. The moment I stepped in, I fell in love with the place. How could he choose such a great location?
Standing in the specially designated romance novel section of the bookstore, I was incredibly excited to see rows of shelves filled with romance novels. As a seasoned homebody, I didn’t have much attachment to comics, but romance novels were my lifeblood. How could he have gathered so many novels that I had longed for? If I met the bookstore owner, I would definitely worship him. I quickly pulled out the romance novel I was most interested in and chose the most comfortable spot to sit down and enjoy it, while he took other types of books and sat beside me.
We quietly read our books, without exchanging words or making eye contact, but whenever I felt like crying, I could always see a hand offering me a handkerchief. I suddenly felt a sense of tranquility in time; even without speaking, he could understand what I needed. Isn’t that what a husband should be like?
The previous novel was written so well that I couldn’t detach my emotions from it for a long time, so even during lunch, I couldn’t stop sharing the plot, until I finally realized I had recounted the entire book.
Oh no, my old habit of being a storyteller had resurfaced. He wouldn’t find me annoying, would he? Every time I started telling a story, everyone else would quickly run away, yet I was telling him a story. This is bad! I looked up at his expression, still wanting more? I recalled that when I told stories before, he seemed to laugh when it was funny and feel sad when it was sad.
“Don’t you find it annoying?”
“Although I don’t actively read romance novels, I quite enjoy listening to their stories. They’re pretty interesting.”
My mouth almost dropped open. I had finally met a like-minded male companion. I liked to talk, and he liked to listen. Aren’t we a perfect match? Suddenly, there was a peeled shrimp on my plate. I looked up at him in surprise.
