“Why?”
– This time, it’s someone introduced by an acquaintance. I heard he’s a public servant. He’s tall and seems like a good match for you, so you should meet him.
After a month of silence, her mother was once again urging her to go on a blind date.
Lola hadn’t told her mother that she was dating someone yet.
There were reasons her mother hadn’t contacted her during that time, and the time she had spent dating Dylan was extremely short. Plus, he was someone far too good for her, so she wasn’t sure if anything good would come from it.
“Mom, I have someone I’m dating.”
But now, she needed to tell her mother the truth. That way, her mother wouldn’t call her again to set up a blind date.
– You have someone you’re dating?
At first, her mother didn’t believe it and asked for confirmation.
– What does he do? What’s his job? Does he have money?
Her mother immediately began to pry into the man’s background.
Lola was displeased with her mother’s materialistic attitude.
“He’s a good person.”
– That’s nice, but what good is it if he’s just a good person? He should earn well and have abilities, too.
Lola barely held back a sigh. Her mother’s lecture continued.
– For a woman, getting married well is the best thing.
That was a line she had heard far too often.
Lola wanted to hang up the phone quickly.
“He’s a good person. I’ll bring him to meet you later. I’m sorry, Mom, but I’m busy right now, so I’ll hang up.”
Her mother said something on the other end, but Lola hung up anyway.
Her already troubled feelings sank even lower due to her mother’s call.
After letting out a heavy sigh into the air, she turned her head and suddenly spotted a familiar woman walking quickly, holding something in her hand.
“Gia.”
Rubbing her eyes to make sure she wasn’t mistaken, she borrowed the streetlight’s glow to take a closer look, and it was indeed Gia Eve.
Wait, didn’t Gia go out to dinner with Nia earlier?
Why was she back so soon?
Lola tilted her head in confusion.
“I knew you’d be here. What were you doing all alone, looking so miserable?”
“I was just stargazing.”
Trying to hide her troubled heart, Lola pretended to look up at the sky. Following Lola’s gaze, Gia looked up. The dark sky had no stars in sight. Gia was incredulous.
“Where are the stars?”
“They were just here a moment ago.”
Lola insisted stubbornly. Gia shook her head in disbelief and set the cake she had brought on the bench.
“I thought you might be feeling down, so I picked this up on my way. I haven’t had dinner yet, so let’s eat together.”
“Weren’t you going out to have dinner with that woman?”
“Am I crazy? Eat dinner with a fly-like woman? If I had to eat with a strange woman, I might choke.”
With Gia’s thick humor, Lola’s mood brightened, and a smile broke through.
“Lola, I told you before, right? I’m on your side. How could I sit down and eat with a woman who makes my friend feel bad?”
Watching Gia carefully unwrap the cake, Lola felt worried.
“So, you haven’t had dinner yet?”
“Why are you so surprised? Skipping a meal here and there is good. It’s good for dieting.”
“Seriously! What fat do you have to lose?”
Lola rolled her eyes playfully, feeling sorry for her.
For some reason, she could roughly grasp the situation.
Gia must have been so worried about her that she didn’t eat and came back.
“That woman keeps showing up uninvited, which is annoying. So, I went and told her off.”
Gia picked up a piece of cake with a fork and fed it to Lola.
“That woman seems to really like Dylan.”
Lola also picked up a piece of cake with her fork and fed it to Gia, casually mentioning it. Gia scoffed.
“So what? Our brother doesn’t even have any interest in her.”
There’s no tree that doesn’t fall after being struck ten times. No matter how much Dylan Eve doesn’t even glance at that woman, she doesn’t seem like the type to give up easily.
With such a pretty woman constantly tempting and clinging to him, would Dylan Eve really remain unfazed?
Lola felt uneasy about that.
She knew all too well that she wasn’t a contender against that woman.
“This cake is really sweet and delicious.”
Hiding her complicated feelings, Lola forced a smile.
Otherwise, she would feel guilty towards Gia, who had come back with cake without even eating.
“Really? Eat a lot. Do you feel a bit better?”
