Arrogant Husband and Timid Wife – Chapter 41

This Week

After delivering her cold warning, Gia stood up.

Though she had accepted Nia’s invitation, Gia turned her back and left before the food even arrived. Nia’s face, which could no longer remain composed, twisted in despair.

Was it said that the harder something is to obtain, the stronger the desire grows?

Like Senior Alan said, she knew she was a step behind. Yet, Nia couldn’t accept that fact.

Until now, she had lived in a good environment, feeling an immense superiority without falling behind anyone.

But what does that woman matter?

The fact that the perfect Dylan Eve was dating the utterly ordinary Lola Dax was unbearable for Nia.

Thinking of Dylan Eve’s cold demeanor, which didn’t even spare her a glance, her pride was hurt, and she felt upset and miserable.

“Ugh…”

Unable to contain the anger swelling deep in her chest, Nia let out a painful groan for a long time. It took some time and effort to calm her emotions and regain her composure.

As time passed, her desire to have Dylan Eve grew like a snowball, endlessly increasing in size. But being too impatient could lead to mistakes.

She had to find a weakness.

Just like in a lawsuit, where one must focus on the opponent’s weaknesses to win, the same principle applied here. No matter how perfect Dylan Eve was, he was still human, and thus had weaknesses.

Suddenly realizing something significant, Nia’s eyes gleamed colder than ever.

Once outside, Gia finally felt a refreshing sense of relief from the suffocating tension. The cool breeze tickled her face.

The words that Nia had said swirled in her mind, making her feel dizzy, but she shook her head as if to brush them off.

Whether her brother’s feelings for Lola were genuine or not, she couldn’t tell. But Gia decided to trust Dylan Eve. He was indeed cold and prickly, but he wasn’t the kind of person who would hurt anyone.

Just as he had protected her until now, she decided to protect her brother and her friend from now on.

So she resolved to do what she could.

What can I do?

If her brother strayed onto the wrong path, she would guide him back, and if her friend was hurting and sad, she would comfort and embrace her warmly.

And she would remove any obstacles in their way.

That would be enough.

The starless night sky was pitch black. Lola felt gloomy. Dylan had been busy and hadn’t contacted her all day. She tried not to think about it, but every time Nia came and went, Lola’s heart wouldn’t settle easily. If only he would come to find her now, her chaotic feelings would calm down.

Dylan Eve was someone who provided a reassuring sense of trust just by being there.

She needed to prepare for exams, but the words wouldn’t sink in, so she thought maybe sitting outside in the breeze would help, and she sat on a bench. As she looked around, hoping he might come, a sigh escaped her lips for what felt like the umpteenth time.

She feared that at midnight, like Cinderella in a fairy tale, all the moments spent with him would turn out to be just a dream. With such ominous thoughts, she checked her phone multiple times to see if she had received a message from him. However, staring at the silent phone screen, which didn’t even have spam messages, Lola let out a self-deprecating smile.

How long had it been since they started dating, and yet she felt so deeply infatuated?

If she didn’t see his face for even a day, something felt empty, and if there were no messages, she found herself waiting anxiously.

She shouldn’t be like this already.

In the past, she had laughed at women who were overly attached and obsessed with men, not understanding them at all. Yet here she was, becoming just like them.

Just thinking about it made her chuckle in disbelief, but suddenly, the deep silence was shattered as her phone rang loudly. Hopeful, she looked at the phone screen, only to be disappointed.

The caller was not the person she had been eagerly waiting for. It was her mother.

Lola honestly wasn’t thrilled to receive a call from her mother. Whenever her mother called, it was usually filled with complaints or unhelpful remarks rather than pleasant words.

Given the time of the call, it was unlikely to be anything good.

As she brought the phone to her ear, a heavy sigh escaped her lips.

“Mom, what’s up?”

– Lola, when are you free this week?

Without the usual pleasantries, the conversation jumped straight to the point.
