Why could she freely enter and leave County East High School?!
A fire burned in Helen’s heart, and jealousy gnawed at her.
“Auntie, I’m going out for a bit!”
“Whitaker Scarlett!”
Helen dashed to the School gate, waving at Whitaker Scarlett.
Whitaker Scarlett quickened her pace, failing to hear Helen’s call. In a few strides, she turned the corner and entered the school building. Helen stamped her foot, resentfully shouting at the school gatekeeper:
“Why did you let her in?”
The gatekeeper glanced at Helen, his eyes filled with a knowing look.
What was a young woman doing constantly hanging around the boys School? These were male students about to take the college entrance examination; whoever Helen managed to distract, it would affect their studies. The gatekeeper certainly wouldn’t let her into the school to cause trouble.
Helen, feeling both ashamed and annoyed by the gatekeeper’s meaningful gaze, nevertheless, relying on her family’s inherent thick-skinned nature, refused to give up easily. Instead, she acted as if she had been greatly wronged:
“You’re just looking down on me because I’m from the countryside! Discriminatory treatment! You’re biased because she’s pretty, I tell you…”
Helen’s voice was loud enough to attract the attention of passersby, who looked at the gatekeeper with questioning gazes.
The gatekeeper, a man in his fifties, couldn’t bear to be labeled with such accusations. He found Helen utterly irritating. “She’s a student of the School, unlike you.”
A student of this school?
Helen wouldn’t believe it even if she were beaten to death!
Whitaker Scarlett wasn’t that kind of material; she couldn’t settle down, nothing like her sister Rosalie.
Helen firmly believed that Whitaker Scarlett had found a new boyfriend. The little vixen was so promiscuous that even the school gatekeeper was lying for her.
Helen despised Whitaker Scarlett the most. She felt it necessary to expose Whitaker Scarlett’s true nature: “You’ve all been deceived by her! She’s a double-dealing slut, her reputation is terrible, everyone in the surrounding villages knows it! If someone like her can get into school, then I can too…”
As Helen was ranting, a school leader happened to pass by.
“What’s going on? All this noise at the gate is disrupting school order.”
The school leader wouldn’t scold Helen; he knew who she was. This remark was directed at the gatekeeper.
The gatekeeper was also in a difficult position, and he tried to explain: “Director Elliot, this young woman comes to the school every day. She wants to enter the school, but she has no legitimate reason, and I dare not let her in to disturb the students.”
Director Elliot looked at Helen with disgust:
“Peter, you must be responsible for your work. Only students and teachers are allowed to enter County East High School.”
Greenfield County East High School wasn’t some top-secret facility. A simple iron gate separated the school from the outside world. Inside were future university students focused on their studies. It wasn’t a marketplace where anyone could come and go as they pleased. If you want to enter freely, fine, get into County East High School.
Although Director Elliot hadn’t directly scolded Helen, the latter felt as if her face had been ripped off and trampled on the ground.
The words of an educated person were truly cutting.
Helen thought resentfully; so what if they go to high school? It’s not like everyone is like her sister Rosalie!
Swallowing her anger, Helen’s face flushed red. She wouldn’t give up without exposing Whitaker Scarlett’s true nature. Whether Whitaker Scarlett was a student of County East High School or had found a boyfriend there, she would make sure the other party couldn’t stay at County East High School:
“The girl who just went in, Whitaker Scarlett, her lifestyle is improper, in the countryside…”
Director Elliot interrupted her with a frown: “What proof do you have to support your claims?”
A triumphant gleam appeared in Helen’s eyes:
“She’s my cousin; how could I not know about her?”
Director Elliot’s disgust was unconcealed, and the gatekeeper, Peter, was also angry.
What kind of person was this? Even if Whitaker Scarlett really had done something shameful, would her cousin come to expose her?
This was supposed to be family; it was clearly an enemy!
The words of an enemy were unreliable. Director Elliot didn’t want to waste time with a fool, gave Peter a look, and left.
Peter no longer needed to be polite to Helen and directly chased her away.
“You work at Maria’s eatery, right? If you cause any more trouble, I’ll report you to your boss!”
Helen was incredulous.
