Against the Alpha’s Claim – Chapter 139

Punishment

Maddis was exceedingly irritated to learn that Bella deemed Robyn’s punishment insufficient, considering it not a punishment at all. “Work is not punishment.” This assertion further exacerbated his beast’s irritation when Benzy said that it was, in fact, Dani who was being punished, not Robyn.

Maddis was seething within, intent on exacting retribution on Robyn for his mistreatment of their Mate, which had caused her anguish and prompted her to flee. For perceiving the necessity to apologise to him and having done so. She had even taken further measures to rectify that man’s Mate bond due to her feelings of intimidation towards him. Was exceedingly apprehensive that he might pursue her.

Luke informed Maddis about the incident between Robyn and Clity in her flat. He had to do so to exact punishment; his inner beast would not relent until he was informed. He had also informed Maddis of his attempts to reach her after he had ravaged her apartment block, shouting and threatening her, instilling fear in her and presumably the children, as a means to quell his rage at his brothers’ crimes.

That his father had administered sedatives to him for that purpose. Maddis now sought to exact retribution on that guy, to provide a fitting punishment, therefore demonstrating to their Mate their comprehension and intent to penalise him harshly for his mistreatment of her.

If she were unhappy, they would ensure her happiness. She had already been irritated with them this morning and at lunch, and now this, as an additional grievance. He was struggling to restrain his inner beast, and Benzy observed this, appearing concerned that Maddis might prevail in the confrontation. It had occurred previously. Luke restrained him by asserting to Maddis that if they physically assaulted Robyn, Dani would be distressed, which would likely exacerbate their own Mate’s turmoil. Was hardly maintaining his human shape at this juncture.

He was uncertain about how to proceed and needed to consult Clit directly on her preferred punishment for Robyn, since this seemed to be the only viable solution to the matter at hand. Her entering his office and witnessing his barely restrained beast. Did not align with his desires.

“Administer punishment immediately,” Maddis growled at him. “Alternatively, I shall execute it.”

“Benzy, bring Robyn here,” he said between clinched teeth.

“Are you certain that is prudent?” He gazed directly at him with emphasis. “Considering Maddis is on the verge of emerging from you.”

“No, but I can only restrain him for a limited duration.” It is advisable to address it promptly. Prior to his prowling around the pack in a semi-transformed state, he acts with impunity, disregarding Dani’s observation of him.

He observed the man’s eyes becoming vacant, doubted his own ability to proceed, and anticipated that Maddis would intrude upon the discourse, especially given the mounting rage within him. He was uncertain about the punishment his beast desired.

After several arduous minutes of grappling for dominance with his beast, Benzy finally gazed directly at him. “Robyn requests the presence of your mother and father at the meeting.”

Maddis growled inside before vocalising a single syllable in a snarl within the Alpha’s office. “Coward.” His beast was irked that his brother intended to seek refuge behind their parents. He saw Benzy exhale, “I’ll summon Clity; it may be a more prudent choice than involving your parents.”

“I do not wish for her to witness a partially transformed Alpha Wolf in a complete frenzy, Benzy.”

“I am aware of that.” I concur; I believe she is not prepared to confront it at this time. However, if she is dissatisfied with the punishment, understanding her desires may pacify the turmoil within you.

Luke could not contest that, and it appeared that the very notion of her being in this room captivated Maddis’s whole attention; possibly having Clit and Tyler around Maddis might indeed pacify his inner turmoil. His creature was fond of merely gazing at her; he had not overlooked that, nor could he. Was compelled to remain in rooms only to observe her.

“Proceed to bring her if she consents to attend.” Luke acquiesced. Nevertheless, a portion of him harboured scepticism. She was irritated with him, believing that the penalty he imposed was directed at Dani rather than Robyn. May not attend; may only feel more irritation towards him.

“She will arrive,” Maddis stated in a pragmatic manner. His wolf undoubtedly possessed genuine confidence in the affection shared between him and Tyler. Harboured no doubt regarding her, nor did I imagine they would fear his partially transformed state. When others were apprehensive about it.

Fifteen minutes elapsed before she entered his office, prompting Luke to perceive a complete shift in Maddis’s demeanour upon her arrival. His rage subsided to mere wrath and irritation, and he purred upon seeing her. Tyler’s gaze shifted to the surface and met her Mate’s eyes, returning the smile.

Subsequently, his body began movement before he was aware of it. “Maddis.” He shouted as he was forcefully thrust to the recesses of his own consciousness, having ceased to resist his primal instincts, which caught him off guard. He observed through his beast’s perspective as he approached his Mate, and they exchanged a gaze. Subsequently, his forehead pressed against hers as he embraced her, remaining still while purring for his Mate.

He no longer harboured any animosity. Benzy appeared to be correct; her mere presence in the room pacified his beast entirely. “When you are prepared, Maddis?”Luke exhaled deeply a minute later, still holding Tyler in his human form in his arms.

Ultimately, upon regaining control, he observed Tyler gazing up at him. He grinned at her, only for her to reach up and bite him on the jaw, a bit more forcefully than fun, he surmised, but noted Maddis snort with amusement, indicating his approval of his Mate’s demeanour, before she vanished.

He rubbed his jaw and heard Benzy giggle; Clit shook her head yet grinned with enjoyment, not apologising for her wolf’s bite. “What is my purpose for being here?” I was guiding Dani and the triplets.

Six years pass in self-imposed exile, but the past refuses to stay buried. When an official letter from the Red Moon Pack demands her return, Bella defiantly burns it, vowing never to step foot in Luke’s territory again. But Luke, now the reigning Alpha, is relentless. He will bring her back, no matter the cost. Bound by the constraints of human law and society, Luke cannot simply take her by force—her prominence in the human world complicates any attempt to make her disappear. Yet, he is determined to claim what he believes is his by right. As their paths cross again, Bella is thrust into a storm of conflicting emotions. Her wolf yearns for Luke, urging her to reclaim the bond they share, but Bella’s heart is torn. She despises the man who cast her out yet still feels the undeniable pull of their connection. To her, Luke’s motives are clear: he wants his heirs by his side, not her. She believes his wolf drives him to claim her, while the man himself sees her merely as the mother of his children, a convenient solution to his legacy. But is that the truth? Or does Luke harbor a deeper love for her that he has yet to admit—even to himself? In the battle between pride and fate, will Bella surrender to the mate bond or stand firm in her resolve to remain free? Only time will reveal whether their fractured past can heal, or if the scars will prove too deep to overcome.
