Arrogant Husband and Timid Wife – Chapter 23

Interested in Dylan

To hide her true feelings, Nia responded quite convincingly.

“It’s convenient and nice to know a lot of people, isn’t it?”

Alan seemed to think there was some merit in her words and didn’t suspect anything further.

“Actually, I don’t know much about Lola Dax either. Just know her face, I guess.”

That wasn’t the answer she had hoped for. Disappointment flickered across Nia’s face.

However,

“About four years ago, Dylan collapsed and was taken to the emergency room at St Mark University Hospital.”

Nia’s expression turned to one of surprise at Alan’s next words.

“Dylan collapsed? Why? What happened?”

“……”

Alan was silent for a moment. Just then, the car stopped at a traffic light, and he looked at Nia with a probing gaze.

“Nia Aliza, are you interested in Dylan?”

Even though her true feelings had been exposed, Nia laughed it off instead of making excuses.

“Is it that obvious?”

“Yeah. Very much so.”

Alan sighed softly.

“But I think you’re a bit late. You saw it earlier, right? Dylan matched rings with a woman. Dylan isn’t the type to casually date anyone. At that level…”

Nia, hiding her unpleasant feelings, interrupted Alan’s words.

“Senior, let’s finish the conversation we were having.”

As the traffic light turned green, Alan started the car and asked,

“Where did I leave off?”

How could he forget after just a few minutes?

Nia was incredulous but didn’t show it.

“You were talking about Dylan collapsing and being taken to the emergency room.”

“Oh, right. At that time, Dylan was hospitalized for a week for the first time. We stood by to keep an eye on him, just in case he tried to run away without treatment. When one teacher was busy, Lola Dax took care of Dylan. You saw it earlier, right? That teacher and Lola Dax are quite close.”

Nia felt uneasy.

At first, she felt strange hearing things she didn’t know about Dylan, but with Alan’s last words, she felt a surge of anger.

Nia clenched her fists tightly.

“But Dylan never mentioned dating anyone until now. When did he even get a girlfriend? At this rate, there might be talk of marriage soon.”

Whether he realized Nia’s complicated feelings or not, Alan muttered to himself.

Nia’s lips twisted.

“Is marriage really that easy?”

“As you know, Dylan isn’t someone who casually dates anyone. Given that they matched rings, it seems serious.”

“……”

Instead of responding, Nia bit her lip tightly.

Knowing your enemy and yourself means you can win a hundred battles. She needed to dig deep into Lola Dax, that woman. Nia couldn’t just stand by and watch Dylan marry another woman.

She felt she needed to meet that woman first.

How could she meet Lola Dax? Nia’s mind began to race.

*****

The sound of heels clicking down the hospital corridor seemed quite lively. A woman walking toward the psychiatry desk was wearing perfume. It seemed she used a luxurious fragrance. The scent was strong but not unpleasant.

The woman’s steps halted in front of the psychiatry desk. After attending to a patient, Lola and Gia turned to look at her simultaneously as they sensed her presence.

It was the woman they had seen the other day at the rib restaurant during lunch. The one who sat next to Dylan, making Lola want to scratch her eyes out for being so annoying. Gia’s expression was cold as she looked at the woman. Lola felt a subtle tension at the presence of the glamorous woman, making her nervous without realizing it.

“Gia, it’s nice to see you again. Don’t you remember who I am?”

Despite Gia’s clearly displeased attitude, the woman maintained her smile.

From that, she was either friendly or shameless—one or the other.

“Sorry, but I don’t remember.”

“Wow! It’s no wonder you’re siblings; you look just like Dylan!”

The woman responded cheerfully to Gia’s cold retort.

“Of course, we’re siblings, so it’s natural to resemble each other. But who are you?”

“I’m really disappointed that you don’t recognize me. Have I become that pretty that you can’t remember me?”

The woman, touching her face with her hand, exuded confidence in her appearance, as always.

If her memory served her right, the woman had made an appointment for a psychiatry consultation today.

But as the woman continued talking to Gia, Lola couldn’t help but feel puzzled.

What was this woman’s agenda?

Was she not here for a psychiatry appointment but rather to find Gia?

Or was it something else?

Lola pretended not to know and busied herself with something at the desk while quietly eavesdropping on the conversation between Gia and the woman.

“I used to see your face often. It’s me, Nia Aliza. Didn’t Dylan talk about me often? Looking back, Dylan and I have many unforgettable memories together.”
