The Love She Never Saw Coming – Chapter 72

Evident

“……”

The casual shirt paired with the tie instantly transformed into a serious and formal look, exuding a mature man’s steady charm under his aura and good looks.

Standing tall, with well-defined muscles, his demeanor and appearance were outstanding, and standing in his office gave off a sense of grandeur. He was such an excellent man, naturally attracting the attention of countless women. She thought of Josie’s earlier words and felt a pang of bitterness in her heart.

“Good taste, looks great.”

“I’m glad you like it.” Thelma sat down on the sofa, casually saying, “I didn’t expect Mr. Sam to be so kind-hearted. The studio setup and buying things for me aren’t just because I’m Tyler’s mother; it’s simply because Mr. Sam is kind-hearted and takes good care of everyone.”

She sat on the sofa, poured herself a cup of tea but didn’t drink it, her fingertips tracing circles on the rim of the cup. She lowered her head, not looking at him, as if she was just speaking casually.

But inexplicably, he felt a kind of sourness emanating from her, and this sourness made him feel pleased.

He sat down on the sofa opposite her, cleared his throat, and adjusted his expression to appear more natural, “Before I went to university, I spent two years in the army. During those two years, Josie’s brother was always by my side. Before I retired, we received a mission, and I was the team leader, responsible for leading the team to complete it. However, due to my misjudgment, the mission encountered an accident, and Josie’s brother lost his life in that accident. Before he passed away, he entrusted me to take care of his father and sister. I felt guilty about his death, so I had no choice but to agree.”

Thelma: “……”

It turns out there are such things; looking at it this way, Sam Noah’s care for the Josie’s family seems quite reasonable.

Thelma regretted saying such things just now. He must have caught the sarcasm in her words, and she wondered if he would think she was petty for even caring about this.

“Although I haven’t personally taken care of them, if you mind, I can just give what should be given to Fernando in the future, and let him distribute it to Josie, how about that?”

“…”

He had just explained this, and at this moment, she should have said she didn’t mind to prove her generosity. However, Thelma realized that her heart was indeed a bit small, and she felt that Josie was not an easy person to deal with.

So she thought it over carefully and nodded, “That’s fine.”

Her answer surprised Sam Noah. He had only wanted to test whether she really cared, but he didn’t expect her to show it so clearly.

She actually cared about him; she had never inquired about his personal matters before—who he interacted with, who he was nice to—she never asked.

Thelma felt that Sam Noah’s gaze on her was a bit strange, filled with a smile, yet his eyes were deep. She felt uncomfortable under his gaze, so she changed the subject, saying, “By the way, next month is Tyler’s birthday. Do you have any plans?”

“A child’s birthday doesn’t need to be a big deal; we’ll just celebrate at home and invite one guest.”

“Who are you inviting?” Hopefully not those annoying people.

Seeing her cautious and tense demeanor, Sam Noah found it amusing. “Dennis, a former comrade of mine.”

Thelma nodded, relieved. Dennis, she had heard about him from the little treasure.

“Do I need to prepare anything?” After all, it was her first time participating in the little treasure’s birthday, and Thelma wanted to be thoughtful.

“Aunt Hope and the others will prepare what needs to be prepared; you just need to get the gift for the child ready.”

That was a given.

Sam Noah glanced at his watch. “It’s about time; let’s go.”

The two of them took a car back home, with Sam Noah driving. Thelma suddenly remembered something and said to him, “I want to go pick something up first.”

When she had come to find him, the jewelry store had called her, informing her that her necklace had been repaired.

Sam Noah didn’t ask further and simply said, “Okay, I’ll go with you.”

The place where the necklace was repaired was in a shopping mall. Sam Noah didn’t expect that the item she was picking up was that necklace. He remembered it clearly; it was custom-made to win her favor, but she had broken it.

The gemstone pendant had been glued back together, but it was evident that there were cracks. Thelma was already very satisfied that it could be repaired like this.
