Ava’s malice was refreshing her limits time and again. Thelma had never thought she would end up with such a heartless friend.
“You say this food is spoiled, but I don’t smell anything spoiled. However, using expired food for takeout is indeed a serious matter; it could even be a matter of life and death. How about this? I can help you report it to the police, and they can take the food to a professional place for inspection. If there really is a problem, we will definitely compensate you fully. What do you think?”
Ava shot her a cold glance but said nothing.
Thelma continued, “However, if the inspection shows no problem, we might have to register your information, Ava, since you are the only one questioning the food’s quality. It might even be filed at the police station. For a public figure to cause a scene at the police station over such a matter is not a good thing for you, Ava.”
Ava’s expression changed, and she forced a smile, saying, “It’s just a small matter; calling the police over something like this is a bit too sensitive.”
Thelma calmly shook her head and replied, “No, no, no, food safety issues are definitely not a small matter.”
Presley also chimed in, “We’re all acquaintances here; it’s not that serious, and there’s no need to waste the police’s time. Ava is usually a bit picky, so Thelma, don’t take it to heart.” After saying this, her expression turned cold as she directed her gaze at Ava, “Aren’t you going to apologize? Do you really want to wait until someone calls the police and makes a fool of you?”
Upon hearing this, Ava felt displeased. After all, she was the spokesperson for PrimeVest perfume, a big star. How could she apologize to Thelma and her sister? She recalled the last time Thelma had hit her with a mop; she hadn’t even settled that humiliation with her!
“If you don’t apologize, then we won’t get involved in your matters. If you leave a record with the police that affects your image as a spokesperson, the compensation or whatever else, you’ll have to bear it yourself.”
Suddenly, Ava realized that as the spokesperson for PrimeVest perfume, her image needed to be pure and elegant. If this escalated, it wouldn’t be good for her either.
She glanced at Thelma and her sister, feeling unwilling, and what made her even more frustrated was that Presley, who was clearly her boss, was siding with others.
However, if she could endure humiliation, she could wait; there was plenty of time ahead, and she wasn’t in a hurry.
After coming to this understanding, Ava pretended to smile amicably and said in a tone that was neither warm nor cold, “I’m really sorry. I’ve been a bit under the weather these past few days, and my nose might be acting up.”
Samantha couldn’t be bothered to argue with her anymore. She greeted Presley, settled the bill, and pulled Thelma away.
“Why did you come here to deliver food, sister?” Usually, her sister had to look after the restaurant; how could the task of delivering food fall on her?
“This is a big order; someone ordered a lot at once and specified that the boss should deliver it, so I came.”
Now it made sense. This led Thelma to suspect that someone had done this on purpose—was it Adaline or Ava? Or were these two working together to embarrass her sister? If she hadn’t happened to be here, with her sister’s personality, she might have been humiliated and left speechless.
Samantha patted her hand and said, “Forget it; there’s no need to fuss over it. I don’t ask for much anymore; I just want you to live well and be happy every day.”
Hearing this, Thelma felt a pang of bitterness. Her mother used to say the same thing when they were young, that she didn’t ask for anything else, just for her two daughters to marry into good families and live happily ever after.
Now that their mother was gone, the same words came from her sister’s mouth.
“Don’t say that. You have your own life; you can’t tie all your happiness to me alone. You should pursue what you want.”
Samantha seemed a bit dazed, but she quickly shook her head and said, “I just want to live a peaceful life.”
For a moment, Thelma didn’t know how to persuade her. Her sister, like their mother, appeared weak but was actually quite stubborn inside.
