She took a step back, not daring to look at him, “All done.”
Sam Noah’s body had become stiff beyond recognition, but she didn’t see it. It wasn’t until she stepped back that he seemed to awaken from a dream. He cleared his throat, adjusted his expression, and calmly said to her, “Thank you.”
Then he opened the door and left.
Thelma finally let out a sigh of relief. It was truly nerve-wracking; she had the heart of a thief but no courage. If she was this nervous just tying his tie, how could she possibly have the guts to throw herself at him?
She thought she was really daring to even think that way.
But thinking about how he didn’t refuse her offer to help him with the tie, Thelma’s little heart leaped again. Sam Noah didn’t seem to mind her closeness, right?
With this thought, she fell onto the bed, covered her head with the blanket, and rolled around happily for a few turns.
After Sam Noah left, he was still a bit dazed. It wasn’t until he stood on the rooftop that he realized he had taken a wrong turn; he had clearly intended to go downstairs to eat.
He looked down at the tie she had tied for him. It wasn’t tied very well and was a bit tight.
She actually helped him tie his tie… and she did it voluntarily… Sam Noah recalled the sweet fragrance that had rushed to his nose when she had leaned in just now.
He frowned, closed his eyes, and took a deep breath. He couldn’t think about it any longer.
Thelma enjoyed her moment alone on the bed before heading downstairs to eat. Sam Noah was already sitting at the dining table. Thelma sat down beside him, occasionally stealing glances at him, and then she noticed that the tie she had tied for him seemed a bit tight. He moved his neck slightly when he took a bite of food, and it was clear he was uncomfortable.
Unable to help herself, Thelma asked, “Did I not tie the tie properly?”
Sam Noah replied, “No.”
Thelma: “…”
After finishing the meal, they quickly tidied up their things, and the three of them prepared to leave.
Ruth was downstairs. When she saw them coming down, she clearly felt reluctant and said, “It’s not easy for you to come back once; why not stay a few more days?”
Sam Noah replied in a calm tone, “I came back to handle business. Once the business is done, I naturally have to go back.”
Perhaps Sam Noah’s indifference made Ruth feel hurt. She looked a bit disappointed, “You young people are busy, and I can’t say much. Can you let Tyler stay here for a few days? I’ll send him back in a few days.”
Sam Noah said, “Tyler has already stayed with you for one night on his first day back. You should be a bit satisfied.”
Ruth frowned, “I’m your mother; why do you have to use these words to stab at me?”
Sam Noah didn’t say anything further. Thelma also wanted to ask Ruth some questions, so she turned to Sam Noah and said, “You and Tyler go wait for me outside; I have a few questions to ask Mom.”
Sam Noah glanced at the two of them and didn’t ask further. He took Tyler and left.
Ruth also asked the busy maids nearby to step out first, leaving only her and Thelma in the room.
“There’s no one else now; go ahead and ask.”
“I want to know why you took Tyler away back then.”
Ruth’s gaze flickered for a moment. She picked up her tea and took a sip, her expression somewhat serious, “At that time, I had a misunderstanding. I was afraid you wouldn’t take good care of Tyler, so I took him away.”
“Misunderstanding? What kind of misunderstanding would lead you to take the child away so harshly during my confinement?”
Ruth looked up at her, her eyes complex, seeming to hold both resentment and guilt. She put down her teacup and said, “Regarding what happened before your amnesia, Noah doesn’t want me to say much. In any case, this matter has passed. At that time, I also apologized to you because of the misunderstanding.”
