At the entrance of the ancient city street, there was a shop selling roasted rabbit legs, the legs roasted to a crisp outside and tender inside, and the aroma wafted from afar. Tyler, being a child, couldn’t help but be tempted by the delicious food, and seeing this, Thelma said to him, “Do you want Mommy to buy you one?”
He clearly wanted to eat it badly, licking his lips but shaking his head, “Daddy won’t let me eat these things. Daddy said I can’t eat anything random before I lose my baby teeth.”
Thelma: “……”
Tyler’s dad was a man of principles, and Tyler had been taught to be principled as well. Although he wanted to eat, he ultimately didn’t let Thelma buy it for him.
Thelma felt a bit heartbroken but didn’t say anything.
Today was neither a holiday nor a weekend, so there were very few people on the street. As Thelma walked past a shop, she clearly heard someone calling her.
Thelma turned to look; it was Marco.
Marco was coming out of a café, smiling, “Are you here to stroll around?”
Thelma replied, “It’s boring to stay at home, so I came out for a walk.”
Marco was very enthusiastic, “Since it’s your first time here and you’re not familiar, do you need me to be your guide?”
Thelma had just had a falling out with Norah last night, and today letting Norah’s brother be her guide felt a bit awkward, so she politely declined, “No need, I’m just wandering around.”
Marco didn’t insist; his gaze swept to a nearby flower shop, and as if he thought of something, he said, “Thelma, wait a moment.”
Thelma was puzzled, but she saw him run over to the flower shop, buy a bouquet, and then come back to hand it to her.
Thelma was like: “?????”
Marco noticed her confusion and explained, “I’m very sorry about what happened with my sister yesterday. This is my apology gift; I hope you accept it.”
Marco looked sincere, but using flowers as an apology gift always felt a bit strange.
“The matter from yesterday has passed; I don’t want to dwell on it. You don’t have to be so polite.”
Marco looked a bit disappointed, “If you don’t accept it, I’ll feel uneasy.”
This put Thelma in a difficult position. To say yes, it felt a bit strange to accept flowers from a man. To say no, it seemed to put him in a tough spot, especially since they were on the street, and everyone had to maintain a bit of face.
While Thelma was hesitating, she heard a deep, resonant male voice behind her say, “You’re too polite.”
Everyone turned to look, only to see Sam Noah appearing not far away. Today, he was wearing a military green long coat over a sharp gray suit, his hands in his pockets, walking leisurely. He stood tall, exuding an outstanding aura, and the sound of his leather shoes on the bluestone made a crisp sound. Even though he was strolling, the sound of his footsteps brought an invisible pressure upon people.
“However, if you insist on giving it, I’ll accept it on behalf of Thelma.” He walked up, smiling at Marco.
Marco smiled back, “Alright, I’ll bring the apology gift over in a few days.”
After saying this, Marco took his leave.
“Why are you here?” If something happened at the distillery, he should be very busy.
“I finished most of the morning’s work and came over to see you when I heard you were here.”
Sam Noah smiled gently. Thelma always felt that Sam Noah’s gaze on her had a different feeling, affectionate, as if he were reminiscing about something.
It was truly puzzling.
His gaze made her a bit uncomfortable, so she instinctively turned her head away.
“Do you need me to be your guide?”
Before Thelma could answer, Tyler nodded vigorously, “Yes, yes!”
With her son so clear about his stance, Thelma naturally wouldn’t dampen his enthusiasm, so she nodded as well.
The bluestone street was clean and serene, surrounded by houses with a sense of history, and nearby, the sound added to the elegance and tranquility of the place. The family walked together, occasionally exchanging a few words.
“Why didn’t you accept the flowers from Marco? Don’t girls like flowers?” Sam Noah casually asked.
Thelma couldn’t tell if it was her illusion, but although he seemed to be asking casually, she felt there was a deeper meaning behind it.
Thinking of Tyler’s earlier remarks, she actually felt the same way. She was already his wife; in this lifetime, she would only accept flowers from him. Accepting flowers from other men would be ambiguous.
